Smoking weed may be dangerous for your heart, study finds

T

Why? Where are all the reported cases of heart problems due to marijuana abuse? Huh? Are you a medical professional or just shooting from the hip?

I don't remember saying anybody was dying, of anything....
I was simply pointing out the fact that anything that reduces oxygen levels in the blood will be bad for you.... and by that i meant if the tiny amount of oxygen displaced by marijuana ingestion is the worst thing about marijuana, then it's pretty frickin safe....

BTW, there are plenty of medical research articles that show smoking reduces the heart's stroke volume, albeit with marijuana it's transient, even in long term smokers. :)

BI went to the hospital once for a bacterial infection

and they put me on a device to monitor my heart

because my blood pressure was too low the doc

asked if I smoked I said no so he put me on that

monitor where they stick a bunch of sensors on you (electrocardiogram?) I had just finished smoking some weed I'm sure I probably smelled like it but yea weed lowers your blood pressure I guess.

that can be dangerous if say your on meds to lower your blood pressure and then you smoke or eat a huge dose then your asking your body for a heart attack from low blood pressure the weed won't harm you unless your hearts already weak.

Remember your heart rate goes up while your high so automatically your blood pressure goes down it doesn't need to be normal blood pressure if your heart is working extra I'm no doc I'm j
just thinking

After spending 100 years spending untold millions and billions of $, starting from the assumption that cannabis contains toxic deadly poisons, this is the best they can come up with. The article admits the level of threat is 'modest'. The doctor's conclusion is

“Patients are increasingly inquiring about the relative safety of marijuana use; as a cardiovascular community, we need to be equipped with evidence-based responses,” he says. “As such, until further data are available, we advise caution regarding the use of marijuana in our highest risk patients with established cardiovascular disease.”

Probably good advice, if you are a highest risk patient with severe cardiovascular disease you should be cautious about everything you do, from fucking to eating ice cream. Taking knife hits until you black out every night is probably not a good idea. Very different from the headline which is 'Smoking weed may be dangerous to your heart'. The press always takes these cautious reports from medical professionals and twists them out of context.

The bit I enjoy is how they put it. 'we need to be equipped with evidence-based responses' comes right before 'until further data we advise caution'! They're saying the lack of evidence is why these high risk patients should be cautious, after saying they need to be equipped with evidence-based responses! I love double double speak. The prohibitionists are floating on the thinnest of hot air.

Yeah,

It can cause sudden problems with Blood Pressure (usually a decrease) for a short period of time right after smoking.

If you have a Heart Condition this could cause additional troubles.

I noticed that certain Strains cause the lowered Blood Pressure more than others and it goes “away” or back to “normal” pretty quickly.

It's funny you mention that. As I stated earlier, I know it can raise my BP, but that's when I'm smoking it on the regular. If I quit for a few weeks and toke up, I have to be careful on the first few hits or I'll get a "whitey" and fall out. It's fucking weird. But after that initial drop in BP, I'm back to normal. I have no explanation for it.

Well, SMOKING can be bad for your heart or lungs. Pot in general is quite safe for the body, even smoked, if that is not continuous throughout the day. Stoner4life had to do edibles because of heart condition.

Willie Nelson has 'damaged' his lungs with non stop smoking of pot. The real damage was caused by cigarettes and smoking the bark of some tree. The pot smoking irritates his lungs, would be more correct.

The people finding these harmful effects of pot are always funded by anti drug goons or looking for funding from someone, also they feel irrelevant, which they are. If you are some science guy at a university, you are expected to come up with new, or interesting conclusions from time to time.

That said, there is some truth to the study. Not as bad as reefer madness, but a bit of looking for a problem where very little exists.

Well - we have the option of doing what we like to do - and because of it we might die earlier - than if we didn't do what we like to do -

Some people like base jumping in wing-suits - I like smoking cannabis - and have done for at least 45 years now - and know of many who are as old, or older that have used cannabis most of their lives without much if any ill effect - Yes there are some risks you take with the use of cannabis - you just have to weigh-up whether or not those risks are worth taking against the benefits you might get from smoking it over so many years -

None of us will live forever - so we might as well try and enjoy the time we have left -

I always thought it was common sense that someone at risk of heart attack should not smoke a racy, paranoid inducing sativa. But I doubt common weed would be a problem and I also believed that indicas would probably help relax somebody in that situation.

These studies always confuse/parallel two things with Cannabis: Thc and combustion.

Thc is bad by itself, but Thc is not Cannabis. (thc is what the government and pharmaceutical realms align with Cannabis for obvious

Burnt plant matter is bad, but burnt plant matter
is not Cannabis. (Burnt plant matter is what 20th century Americans aligned with Cannabis when they were too poor/unconnected/unskilled to ingest proper Cannabis preparations (hash).

Natural sticky, fatty, crusty high brix Cannabis, vaporized or hashed, is good for your heart. Smoke is bad for your heart. Thc isolate is bad for your heart.

Not sure if it's just the way you put it, but I'd be incredibly surprised if someone could rail 7 grams then be hungry at all...

My lungs drove me to vaporization. Lately I can't keep from coughing so the vape temp keeps going down. Now it is below the vaporization temps of the actives, but I don't cough. They say my heart if great, and my lungs are OK except for getting the active compounds now which induce coughing, much less the fats and waxes. So for the foreseeable future I will vape at the highest non-coughing temp (around 330) and put the highly active OVD into the cookies.

what a bunch of bs imo okay vaping does change the heart rythm znd what not howe4ver vaping is not dangerous more than combustion unless you have a heart condition at an old age with bronchitis. so we know i've had seroious heart palpitations before tripping on music after awhile i re-adjusted. i survived i even thought i had serious doubt of cannabis problems. My body adapted and i evolved. no more heart problems after that i built my body tolerance. No more deep paranoia or scare, so sad.
