"Skunk type" vs. "Haze type" random seeds from various breeding projects

Hi peeps,
After long and thoughtful consideration, that has lasted a good 13 years, I have come to the conclusion that the time has come for me to start a grow diary.

This run I have procured myself
(over the years as I am broke AF due to disability):

a mylar tent 90cm x 90cm x 180cm
(present from a friend, had it a few years now)

EDIT:
a marsh idro 150W LED meant to cover 1mx1m
(admittedly I have been starving myself to make enough money to afford this one)

the MH has been moved to a different tent, it was briefly supplanted by a V-Tac Outdoors beam 200W 3000k-5000k
And now by a DIY LED solution which will yield better results from now on.

a 100W UFO LED
(yup, them old cans still works after 10 years)

a 9pot blumat system
(got that off a farmer that was moving to hydro, not my friend)

a 200L bag of the finest grass soil
(a week worth of food)

Perlite
(friend)

Vermiculite
(also friend)

Diatomecious earth
(no beer for 2 weeks)

GHE nutrients, the usual 3 cans of N+micronutes, full spectrum, and P+K buffer
(friend)

almost forgot:

Bathroom vent and fan to move the air (the house I live in)

20 random seeds from my bag of "seeds I find around the house after seed runs" and the genetics vary wildly from Dutch skunks, Landraces, Heirloom and crosses I myself have made of these over the years.
(priceless)

so yeah, after years of growing with the cheapest (often dangerous) solutions and conditions that would make you want to tear your hair from your scalp just thinking about it, I decided to try and do things better, this time around, and pamper myself, and my plants, and let the selection over the years express itself in its full glory.
(or not, as this is a quality control run tbh)

I started with 20 seeds between wet toilet paper sheets, I ended up with 15 seeds popping.
I will let these grow straight into 12/12 without vegetative phase, this is both meant to test the reaction of the plants to photoperiod as I have some autoflower mixes in there and to keep the more wild NLD from growing too tall. I will further select for vigour and rate of growth....kinda sad now that this is a flower run...oh well.

This is what it looks like a week in (the white stuff is diatomecious earth that I mix with water and spray over the young ones so that thrips, nematodes or any other little fucker don't eat my babies as I do not sterilize the soil.
(I am a proud Live Soil proponent when it comes to growing weed for quality and not quantity, the flavour and medicinal power just aint the same when grown hydro, but that is just my own very not humble opinion)

and now, without further ado, here are the babies

I'm also growing some bamboo I was gifted by a friend and a tobacco plant (the tobacco keeps thrips and fungus gnats from taking over the tent, works better than fly paper) and yes, there is a San Pedro in the back (it's actually healthy, dunno why it looks brown), I apologize for the sepia color but I was using the old samsung COB and that has 2000K light I use for blooming and the camera for some reason made it look gloomy as hell.

Here's a better one under the Marsh I draw

I hope to find at least 6 strong females to make me some bud ^^^

I will be posting every week with updates.

just kidding, it's only diatomecious earth
the lamps are hanging at a comfortable 2.5 feet above the plants,
the M.H. (they do have a sense of humor, give 'em that) is dimming from min to max and back over 11.5 hours and the UFO is set for the last 4 hours to have a total of 12/12 effective light cycle.

Just a little off topic with this one,
this is the effect of the mars hydro on my plants that are not weed
IMG_20231014_090519.jpg

you can see that the white leaf is a killing field for thrips and other pests, the green leaves are the reveg induced by the MH

just for kicks here is my san pedro... revegging

and, completely unrelated:

These are the same random seeds, but grown by a friend of mine, also under Mars Hydro LED

And now ladies and gentlemen, the babies up close, with good light

seeing some TLD development on this, but overall I'm happy with the growth rate and overall health

this one could be so many things
IMG_20231014_081246_edit_772077915669166.jpg

this above is by far the fastest, it was the first to sprout and now it's the first to drom its cots (bit freaked out, but gonna keep an eye out)

And this one, this is by far my favorite, chonkeh second leaflet (which gives me a strong doubt this might be the AutoXtreme mother line as it has shown palmation on the first leaflets before)

Aren't you concerned that using that much DE will clog the stomata or block photosynthesis?

Plants are autotrophs, which means they produce their own food. They use the process of photosynthesis to transform water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide into oxygen, and simple sugars that the plant uses as fuel. These primary producers form the base of an ecosystem and fuel the next trophic levels. Google

Not really as the stomata in angiosperm are by vast majority in the under leaf and I spray the stem and above leaf.

right now you're seeing the "aftermath" of a spraying done the day before, in another day I have a scheduled "rainy day" which will wash any excess DM deposited.

The emergency spray was carried out upon detection on the upper leaf of thrips chilling in the sunlight on the new leaf after having sampled the goods.

I will proceede to use pyrethrins and nicotine to exterminate the pests were they to be spottet again before the onset of budding sites.

The fine coating of silicious dust over the upper leaf will only relatively affect photosynthesis as it does not reflect the light as a mirror, but it absorbs it and defracts it, which, imo, when it comes to LED might even be contributing to a better photosynthetic regimen, but that is all to be seen and I have no data to back this claim, but in case I was totally right, well, I was right before being right :p

but no, I'm not concerned in the least, any other pesticide, including neem oil would interfere with the hormonal balance of the plant directly or indirectly, so I would rather lose a slight efficency in photosynthesis due to shadowing caused by dust, (which tbh could happen to some types of cannabis that live in dry regions) than to hamper the growth patterns with external chemicals (whcih independently of toxicity will still be affecting the plant) in the early stage of its development. EDIT: I'm saying that atm my only option is chemical or DM, I'm trying to avoid using chemicals (emergency only) but even then they woul affect the plants to a greater extent than with DM in the beginning.

might very well be: a Miss????

I wasn't expecting preflowers well until a couple more days, but I'm very well ok with this...

Another picture from my friend while we are waiting for my randos to mature a bit more (BTW seeing lots of female preflowers 😁). This here is a 4 way cross between Alien Gorilla, Kerala Auto Xtreme and Orange Bud at 75 days from seed.

P. S. Notice how there's a random haze bud photo bombing on the bottom right

Everything else is pretty much this Kushy/skunky fat leaved thing
And I'm seeing a lot of female preflowers 🤟😁

Not to be the one who measures things, but, how big is yours?

No, I'm not overcompensating... For what? A lack of female flowers? Yes, yes I am.

And I'm also afraid my favorite Chonkeh Leaff might be a dude, if not worse, a gender fluid individual that we are supposed to eliminate on sight... How could you betray me so Chonkeh? How could you?
*insert Obi Wan Kenobi "you were supposed to bring balance to the force" meme *
