I'm seeing A difference between the smartpot 7g and plastic square 5g. The smartpot has a better resin production. The smartpot did make an improvement in quality in this grow.

Damn pots improving quality? that is very interesting. Of course has to do with root health. Very interesting. I wish jrosek would drop an update on his situation. Last i heard he was trying beds and said it was looking very promising. I would like to hear some record yields from him :canabis:

in a 1m X 1m id personally run 9 5gal appx 16liters under 600w possibly an aircooled 1kw. and your veg time doesnt matter as much if your mother room is prepped to deliver clones at an adequate size. so your yield will beat the sea of green, flower size will be larger, and will only take a week extra of your time.watering intervals are increased as well(you dont water as often) also with bigger plants , pruned well, no larf, and adequate ventilation, your quality will be far greater than small plants. small plants should only be worked with if its a necessity for your stealth and security of the grow op.
and if thats your case then my best wishes in your quest to grow the bombest ass little nugs possible.
peace

Just to chime in here I thought I'd drop my :2cents:

Been growing in 20, 15, and 10 gallon pots indoors for about 3 years off and on. Finished plants top out at 4' and are quite girthy all around. I call them shrubs rather than trees. I can't say enough about providing an enormous area for rootzone establishment. The hardest part about growing in such large containers is re-learning moisture management imho....

"In soil" pot size does matter, an occasional exception for shallow rooting indicas. I'm torturing a PurpleWreck in a 1gal all the way to finish right now lol not much loss in yield, but its a shallow rooting, low yielder too. It didn't even start to use the 5gal last run, looks like a 2 or 3 would be fine for it.
cheers

So I was thinking about using some very narrow tree pot i found, like 4 inches in diameter and just over a gallon. i think they are like over 15 inches high. Do u think the roots will travel to find the water in this kind of container? I am growing white widow

yes they will

They will grow in any size container, you will probably want to shoot for a thin, long style, as if they get bushy, they will easily topple over

Well I'm back, long overdue vacation...

Still rockin my urkle/wreck hybrids, getting 130-150g+ per in 10gals, damn things think they're outside with the big shoes! Pushin 1.2 zips per sq foot! ;)
2nd run on another cross too... my K3 project... K2 X My [Urkle/Trainwreck X Jane Doe] F1
7 fems all dif pheno, 2 or 3 keepers, running 4 again.
Its about K3 cull time, have some MrNice Shit & some OrangeThai on deck :)

Back on topic & my results are in...
I can state absolutely,

That shotglass proved a weed will adapt n grow almost anywhere! :D
I liked the 2 pill bottle hydro better lol

Most are just too cheap or lazy to use big pots tho, but will fork out $50 for a quart of the latest magic nutes w/o a second thought?

It seems you're one of the micro, g per watt guys?
Its real simple...
If you can see floor? Your pots are too damn small! ;)

I shortfill my 10gals, leave a 3-5in rim. Keeps the room spotless & girth is more important than depth. The big footprint WILL add yield...period.

Try it, its REAL bang for the buck!

Peace

i just harvested some comparison plants and the results were similar.

OG Kush- the difference between a 1gal 50/50 mix and a 3gal 50/50 mix was about a quarter ounce favoring the 3gal. the 1gal was rootbound and the 3gal wasn't even close to rootbound. Ceteris Paribus.

Purple Urkle- the 3gal produced almost twice as much as a 1gal. Same situation with the roots.

It seems that the roots will get rootbound easier not only with a smaller container but with soil compared to a 50/50 mix. All the soil containers (1gal or 3gal) were rootbound at harvest. The 50/50 mix i could pull the plant out of the container and the rootball with it, leaving most of the container filled with the medium still.

anyways, nothing new i guess....just rambling. can't wait to try DWC.

nice experiment and results man, guess i gotta switch everything to 3 gals...my main problems have been rootbound in my 1 gals and getting a shitload of lower fluffy airy nugs. after this thread i cant wait to blow out my 10x10 room with some of yall tactics...

Hey bro,
I have never cloned in coco? The yellowing is common to overwatering, fert, ect... You can use the rooters if you have success with them, just transplant the rooters in the dixies after the rooters show roots, and let them root.
You can get an ignitor at any electrical out let store, Just take it in and say... Hey i need one of these himmamajeebes..lol
Couple pics in a minute.

that is fuckin insane..someone get this guy back here so he can make a thread on this bed setup...
