Bro, Thats a image i never want to see again!! You runnuin around your garden in some speedo's!!lol
The new beds dont veg at all anymore, They go in as soon as a 9oz dixie cup is rooted. I used to veg 20-4 tho, like 18-6 however some strains will start to flower on ya.
I had a timer break on the heater in the clone room and ultimately lost 200+ babies!! (tear's in my eye) Lost the purple urkle, lavander, and la kush cuts my bro just sent me!!! Hold on... I need a tissue!
The plan is to run 288 cuts in a IR Bed under 2 1000's x 2
Gonna shoot for 9+ lbs per bed! Go ahead... Laugh now buddy!
You really need to post some pics, Cause quite Ohnestly, Im not into reading!haha
Cant wait to see your stuff bro!
Peace, Jro

I'm grinnin' not laughin'.
Know very well what a true SOG can do, used to pull 1.5-2lbs per 4x8 bed. 132 per bed.
My clone dome was a king size waterbed frame covered in 3ft industrial Saran Wrap under a 1k vert MH :p

rock on!

Very nice thread jrosek... Glad I read it. What are your thought about doing this method in an ebb n flow 4x4table with hydrotons?

So bro, What made you change from the beds? Sounds like you were hitten it, speedo's and all, LOL, sorry man... still stuck on that one!
King size bed, thats a great idea with the cover for humidity! My clone room is packed! I just cut all new clones for the big bed, Im gonna toss whats left of the damaged ones in the 600 system. I need to figure out something like your makeshift dome. im running 2 humidifiers in the room with an electric fan heater, It's like pissen in the wind, they both are cancelling each other out.lol
Peace bro! Jro

I'm not so sure about pot size. When I veg big I get big plants weather there in 3g or 5g. Now I might see a difference if I used a 10g but that takes up to much valuable space for the grow. I have 1 plant that's going to be way bigger and yield twice as much as the ones in 5g. Also the strain maybe a big yielder as well. Many factors play a role here in size of plant.

1. Lights
2. Nutrient's used and how much
3. Veg time
4. Strain
5. Climate control

Any combination of these may show good results or not. I have 2 Destroyers in the same size container. 1 of them is a big yielder(over dose of nutrients) for a pure sativa. The other is normal used less then recommended and is growing just as I suspected buds are lose and airy.

Normal growth

Big yielder

New sentencing guidelines, plant limits & mandatory minimums lol switched to 48 candelabra style real quick!
Similar to your method, only about twice the size (2.5-3ft) & pinched to 5 mains.
I'd still get a nice solid SOGish canopy, with minimum backlash :spank:

Nice one Hammer!
What is that? looks along the lines of Chronic, Pot o Gold.

The reason I started this thread about big pots was...
everywhere I look, someone is trying to sell you some magical widget or snake oil. Big pots can really make a difference on the cheap, especially with vigorous strains, its looking like not so much with small rooting indicas, lite feeders etc. Anyway, my main point was...
Save your money & try bigger pots!
For a cheap & legit boost, they're hard to beat.

Its looking like a 24hr veg is huge too. for a few extra kwh's
No dark to 12 hrs dark is a photoperiod bitchslap lol
18/6 to 12/12 = 15+ days to first hairs.
24hr to 12/12 = 7 days flat & they're way bigger 30days in.
Waiting for harvest to see what the scale says?

cheers

No those are all Canna biogen Destroyer Pure Sativa. Most sativas I have grown are much taller 5-8 ft. Theses 2 did not get past 3 feet.

I have twisted Purple. The Twisted Purple OG Kush combines OG Kush, Bubba Kush & Sour Diesel IBL into a indica dominant plant that makes colorful purple kush buds. Many offspring will show strong purling while others will show some purple traits with some phenotypes staying green. Average yields of very frosty purplish kush buds with a flowering time of 9 weeks. This plant is close to 5ft with Indica leaves but is growing like a Sativa. Dont know what to expect from here. She is in a 5g grow bag.

Hello all,

It has been my observation that bgger is not necessarily better...I use a 250w light and I use 3 gallon pots.

In the end, they are never rootbound...there are roots around the bottom but the center of the soil is less populated with rootgrowth.

So, I am wondering if maybe given my veg time (30-60 depending) if I am getting the optimum utilization of my soil volume.

I am going to the garden center tomorrow to look for a pot that is about 2.5 gallons and is tall and narrow.

I think that when considering pot size the light size and veg time my play a role in the decision.

That is normal the roots shoot out and when they hit the edge the just follow it and round and round they go. There is a pot out that supost to fix this I believe they are called smart pots. They have holes all over and when the root tip hits these holes the root tip dies and starts to grow back in all directions. It's more of a Random root growth. Lots of talk about them.

I'm using Smart Pots, 3 & 7 gallons.
Except for improved overall root health & zero spiraling, the jury is still out on if they actually improve yields.
"I think" which totally goes against my sig lol
That my 3gal stage is proving the most beneficial from the air pruning & optimizing of the rootmass before they hit the final 7's where they can really stretch their toes.
My latest runs Smart Pot data got poisoned with the big boost from 24hr veg & resulting quicker flip in 12/12.

I really like'em though ;)

cheers

I hear ya bro! You must be common wealth, lol
I cant wait to see your harvest either!
One point i would like to mention... With soil you HAVE to use bigger pots to obtain a good root structure and good size plant! I have found with this soiless stuff i can grow some impressive size plants in tiny containers. I could never pull this kind of weight in a soil bed. Im not knocking soil by anymeans people, just different styles. When i retire a mom after a few months i thro her in flower, in a 2 gallon pot she will do 5-6 zips, more if i had a better set up for them. Ok, enough... peace all!
Hammer, Nice girls bro! Very impressive!

twisted, If you noticed in the pics, i have been running different setups under the 4 600's, The originals were 1.25 gallon buckets.
In the quest for maximum yield we have experimented with different containers, spacing, height, veg time, ect........
In the buckets, 1.25zip per cut was the norm, in the bed (style) 15g per cut was the norm. The difference being, you can run 25-30 1 gal buckets, or 80 to 120 in a bed under a 600. I do benefit from the 600's being next to each other for added side lighting will allow you to run a bit bigger foot pattern.

As for the no wholes.... Well, in this system, i have it dialed in well enough that i dont have to flush or have run off. It takes some time, but ultimately if you know your strain and feed this is no problem. I myself will never mix a bag of dirt again!lol
I would have to go on for hours to explain all the details wich i cant do, however, i will be more than happy to try and help you along. There is a lot of info in this thread and the 600 watt club thread on my practices.

The medium is 65% perlite to 35% vermiculite. I use straight hydro nutes mixed to the gallon specifications at a ph of 5.8 to 6, The smaller cuts in the beds recieve 20oz of feed every 2 days., I never feed over 1100ppm. I give them ph adjusted plain water every 4th feed. This helps prevent salt build up.
Another nice thing is, the perlite can be reused over and over.
It is very difficult to over water in this system! The biggest thing is to make sure your cuts are healthy and well rooted before putting them in the medium. you must lite feed them until they are rooted in the medium, When i transplant mine, the medium is moist with a full strength nute, once the cut is inserted, i give 10oz or so to each cut (veg nute), I will not feed again for 4 days or so to let the roots establish. Then its a full feed, wait 3 days or so and then its every 2 days.
My advice my friend, Take 100 cuts now, I will walk you threw it while they root! This system is so easy even a dumb fuck like me can do it!
The key to this system is your strain, You must have a decent yielding indica strain!!! Start growing a few mothers while were at it!
Thats enough for now! Sorry for the spelling and such, my wifes in bed and cant ck my work!lol
Peace, jro

Thank you very much for the response J. Dam 100 cuts is way to much for me, i figured 40 would be a good number to start with. I still find it hard to believe you yield 2lbs off a 600 but like you said pics don't lie. If you have no holes in your buckets where does the water go if it settles don't you get root rot or any other problems? I figured 2 600's 20 cuts on the first 600 then after 30days in flower move those cuts to the next 600 and replace with new cuts, trying to harvest every 30-40days. Before only getting around 12-16oz so if i can almost double that as you did that would be the shiiznit. I will check back in later on your progress and again thank you for all your help.

Twisted, Chef is correct (as usual!lol)
Here are a couple options for ya...
This is a 600 0n 48"x48", there are 30 1.25 gallon buckets. The buckets are a little big for this set up but its all we had at the time. these girls were put directly in from a FULLY rooted clone, they are at 44 days in the pic. they chould do 30 grams + each or so. reflective sideing or an extra t-8 ballast is a must on a table this big for a 600, the back of the hood just doesnt cover very well.
Option 2, My now favorite! This was an experiment also and since has been revised. the table is 44"x44" and has 49 cuts in it at 6" spacing. we will now be doing 5" ect.... she should do 25 grams each.
Peace, Jro
