Fer sher. I was actually just reading up on Serenade, and some alternatives, .. I'm no science guy, but it sees to me the active in Serenade is essentially what's in a diluted milk mix, no?
So far, hotspots have been on just the big fans. I've been plucking those as I see (and then some - airflow, airflow, airflow, and defoliate, defoliate, de...foliate?), .. When I'm not plucking, I'm zapping with this:
I've also read a lot that simply spraying with pH Up'd water will treat the symptoms, .. If that's the case, is that essentially what all of these other treatments do? (Milk, baking soda, garlic, ..)
I don't mind the constant vigilance (okay, it's kind of a pain in the ass), but I'm just leery about finding the dreaded hotspots inside my colas once I chop.
I'm not getting it - Temperature swing of ~ 10 degrees MAX, RH 32%, two Air-King 6" clip on fans above the canopy on opposite corners, a 12" fan right in the center of the floor, blowing straight up, .. :
genetics that are just prone to getting mold/mildew? You might want to research strains and see which ones are really mold and mildew resistant for your next grow. Sorry but I don't have anything else to chip in. Good luck with getting rid of it but have you checked out the lacto bacillus culture trick that is talked about in the organics forum. There is a crazy thread about getting rid of the stuff with some milk that you sit in a jar and ferment or something. Sorry but I'm pretty skimpy on the details.
damn silver im sorry to hear that. makes me realize i need to get my own shit together... rh in my tent has been around 75 and im in week 5 already... best of luck to your battle friend!
Things appear to be "under control," as much as things can be "under control" once the PM is seen. No buds seem to be affected thus far, but these broads can't finish up fast enough at this point. Tomorrow is day 45 for the eldest crew. The Purple Mr. Nice is at ~ day 38. Sonofabitch.
I've read a smidgen about using a diluted milk mixture to control PM, but I don't understand the mechanism. (That is, is whatever it does more effective than alternatives?) I gotta do me some readin', .. But first, gotta go out and do this responsible-adult-working thing.
Fungus/mold prefers an acidic medium... and if you spray anything basic on the outside of the plant, it should help to inhibit growth... I just wouldn't want my buds smelling like sour milk. lol
..for Headband, USD, HK, and C4D. Right on cue, pistils are juuuust beginning to turn.
The Headband (DWC) got its last batch of fresh food last night. Feeding at 100% for the next 5-7 days, and then I'd figured I'd be flushing with pH'd water and Sledgehammer (garden center freebie!). I'm anticipating the Headband to finish right around 60-65 days.
The gals in dirt, I'm figuring to go closer to 70-75 days. They just got a dose of Beastie Bloomz (another freebie), and will get a dose of ChaChing soon also (freebies FTW).
I'm really hoping these gals finish their swellage in the next couple of weeks. (I think I have this fear every grow - that they WON'T fill out..?)
On a side note..
The Oasis self-watering deal was a total bust. After lots of profanity and countless hours tinkering with it, I called the manufacturer. Sure enough, they've had issues on a particular production run - a bad valve, apparently. It'd get/stay stuck shut. So the gal had me remove the valve from my unit (huhuhuh), identify it for her, and now they'll be sending me a replacement valve. So, hopefully this thing will work.
Quick note: When the gal from the manufacturer has you remove the [stuck shut] valve from a 6.6 gallon reservoir, it's a good idea to put it BACK.
Otherwise, if you're like me, you'll later discover about 3-4 gallons pouring out from the unit, on a shelf, steadily streaming down on top of the econowing reflector for my MH. Oops!
/I still feel like that broad should've told me, "Now if the unit is full, be sure to put that valve back!" Doesn't she know she's dealing with a highon?
Thanks wdi! Not feeling great about the grow this time around, .. I feel a bit like a high class whore whose been diagnosed with the HIV. Might be sexy lookin, nice gal and all. .. But I'm infected.
Someone, please, tell me I'm beautiful, I'm not fat, and that people care what I say..
My best advice at this point would be to go exclusively organic next run. In that regard you can get all the crazy beneficial microbes and organisms working in your favor with their awesome symbiotic relationships with the plants. That way you can use ACT's (aerated compost teas) for waterings and also foliar feedings. PM has less of a chance to take hold when you have your girls coated in microbe armor. Plus if you get some good soil (I use FFOF) it should have some dolomite lime that maintains the pH around 7ish. I never worry about pH, ec, or parts per million. All that shit is complete greek to me. Ideally when everything is where it should be the plants do their own thing. Feeding schedule is feed, water, feed, water, etc. Throw some ACT's in there every now and again. That's my 2 cents at least but that's right up there with "opinions are like assholes...". Again, I hope that new stuff works out for you.......
Well, .. That was the goal from the outset, sort of. Last run I used FFOF as my "base dirt" in my mix. This time around, I tried Dr. Earth, for shits and giggles. Turns out, more shit, less giggles.
I've been feeding consistently with ACTs, .. The big difference between this grow and last is that I'm really maxing out my space this time around, .. I think that's led to some circulation problems. I was excited to be able to keep the reflector literally 2" above the canopy, .. But then as the PM showed itself, I raised that f*cker as high as it could go - and BOY does it [visually, anyway] seem to create some space for air movement.
pal
Thanks man. Unfortunately, it feels lousy. I've not seen any PM on the buds, but I've seen pencil-eraser-sized hotspots on fan leaves daily for the past few days. When I see em, I'm plucking 'em right off, .. And I've been spraying with Mildew Cure, ProTekt (8.5 pH mix), .. Nothing seems to slow the spread, .. So now I'm on to Actinovate, .. Who the hell knows.
I just need to buy THREE WEEKS (or so - four wouldn't be bad either ) to get through this..
But, last time around, I had similar issues with an AK47 I grew. I though I'd been on top of it, snipping & spraying the fan leaves as I saw it, .. But come harvey time, the innermost piece of each chunk of the cola had the teeniest smidgen of PM on it.
The guy at the garden center today suggested "Well you can always make a honey oil or QWISO!" .. I smiled and said "Did that last time. While it's nice, it ain't no substitute for what I've been planning on.."
Dunno, gentlemen. I'm quite damned discouraged this time 'round. My suspicion is that this mess started with the Purple Mr. Nice, and now it's spreading. As sexy and smokey as she is, I have a feeling that PMN will not be making a third appearance in my garden.
It's funny, I was remembering a post of yours about it today while I was at the store, .. When I finally found it, I was stoked. Actually, I took that and Greencure to the guy and asked if he'd had experience/input. He suggested the Actinovate, ..
If I understand the term "systemic" correctly, that should mean that once applied, it gets into the plant on a level where it's, well, all up in there, .. No? And the concept is that, once applied, it's a sort of long-term solution.. ?
Anyway, someone straighten me out here, if'n ya would.
Beyond that, the Actinovate is supposed to be a systemic prevention deal, .. As is the Excel FG, right? The Excel FG is next on my list, but I'm really hoping it doesn't get that far..
On a side note, the buds on the Headband and USD seem to be very spear-y, .. Not real chunky, but I'm hoping for a fatty session coming soon. Haagen Dazs, anyone?
Also, thanks everyone for my confidence boost. Maybe I'm just big-boneded.. I do have all these cats, which make me feel better about myself..
I uploaded a slew of new pictures today, but in the interest of not being a total HEYLOOKATME, here are a few. The rest are in the album, ..
One or two of each, whaddayasay?

Purple Mr. Nice ~ 38...Ithink?
She's an odd grower. I really love the smoke and the buds (nice, dense little fuckers), but she's odd. Doesn't really stack up for big colas. Just golfballs all the way down.

I've never grown vert, but she seems like she'd do well:
Thanks for posting pictures of the headband. I'm glad I'm getting a good picture of what I have to look forward to. Don't sweat it too, they are looking good. You have to remember that that strain will go another 20 days at least. Kindgreenbuds says it's a 63-70 day strain. Everything is looking good, especially for having the PM.
I think I took my last batches down around 65 or so, .. In dirt, FWIW. I'm expecting closer to 60-62, .. We'll see. They seem to be lovin' that Actinovate spray.
