But it makes you think.
The music industry is a difficult place to traverse, you start with nothing (most of the time,) you build up a fan base and whether you are major or independent, you get your music to the world. The difference is that in the independent world, you are in control and responsible for your own career. This is obviously another media born distraction. I mean II guess it's hard for people to have a bleeding heart for first world problems from a fuckin' millionaire. However human beings aren't beyond reproach or change. I have been pounded with questions as of late about how I felt about 'Lil Wayne joining the Zulu Nation. I have a lot of a young friends, however I do sit at the grown folks table. I sit there and I talk about changing lives, with people who have changed their lives. We have put together feeding the homeless programs and Anti-Incarceration workshops. I have taught in a prison, several times, and I will again here in NYC when our new semester begins again in 2015.
I have worked with people who have taken someone's life before, I have worked with people who have, robbed stolen and been to prison for a long time. I think that if these people who have been to the edge of ruin can find a way back, can find a way to put themselves out of gangs and drug trafficking and help other young people come back. If I can work with them. I can sit and have a convo with anyone.
Honestly when I have a chance to sit and talk to people I get so much more accomplished. I had a conversation with a very angry young man, who told me once. "Why do Black and Latino ppl hate it when their people get killed by cops and yet say nothing or don't care when that happens to them, when they kill their own." It's an easy argument to make, cookie cutter ignorance. I guess it would be easy to get mad at this kid who can see a large struggle against a huge corporate entity as necessary but no needed analysis of where he got his 23 year old opinion about race in America that is "ironclad." Well first I explained, that's factually incorrect. And I'll explain. How can you depict any people, be they whatever color, as not caring if their own children dies.
Why would you need to frame the argument that way as if we care less for our children, as if their death is easier on us. As if their incarceration hurts them less. When a communist dies, does his mother cry different from a Capitalist. We are all heartbroken when someone in the neighborhood or we know dies. How the fuck could you assume our moral compass or know our feelings. The reason people are outraged I told this kid. Is because if someone was caught on camera running this guy in our neighborhood over, or shooting him. he'd go to jail. In the case of the police in NYPD. They have used an illegal chokehold banned in 1993. The death was ruled a homicide, and yet there was no indictment. See, even if they get caught on camera killing someone they can and they will get off. Every once in a while they throw us a bone.
However, I have bad news for you that will say "Technique is saying it's all about race." As much as you would like to put me in that category, no one here is smart enough to even actually make that a credible stance. And you know why, it's because this is going to affect anyone. Not just Black or Latino people. If you think this is JUST a "minority" issue. I don't think you're a racist, you're not a Nazi. No, not at all. You're just a German Citizen in the 1930's. I have A LOT of white fans, almost as many as I have Latinos. If you have never been out West, you know nothing about the legions. And they are harassed as well by police. They get fucked with, stolen from. However the smartest of these fans of mine understands the racial issues in this country to notice the difference in how cops will react to them and to ethnic minorities sometimes. It happens in every country. America isn't special. However, it could be if we stopped it here.
You don't realize that the war will soon be everywhere. Not just on TV, far away where we are involved for whatever reason. It won't give a fuck about your celebrity art exhibit. Or your school, or your birthday. It will cover the face of the world. 1 billion rounds of ammunition is not enough, they will need to buy another 5 billion.
You cannot also have the luxury of imagining some situation where you feel oppressed and expecting people to respect that without understanding oppression. I have seen many people advocate breaking the law when it suits their political perspective or when the violence seems innocuous, like at a college or a sports game. Where people still die, and million in damage is caused. However, your skin, or the God your family raised you to believe in doesn't make you take oppression differently. It breaks all humans down. If the Federal government or the State infringes on your rights, people resist and are hailed as heroes. However when the person in the media changes then we hear things like "Comply with Law & Order" or "If he didn't do this he wouldn't..." Really, apply that thinking to other people oppressed, you wouldn't dare. Because unlike them, some are deluded enough to think the people who are poor in this country, that it's their fault. However when it was you and your own ancestors who were caged an oppressed, what was their fault? Not resisting enough? Maybe we have more in common with those ancestors than those people do. Maybe if you really feel like that, then you sold them out a long time ago. But I will keep their rebellious spirit alive. And not just to battle so far fetched enemy, which people will do in a minute. However fighting if fighting "illuminati" is easier than talking to your father or mother about the things they left out when they taught you "all about race" then you have a problem my friend. We stand as a human race against all injustice, or we stand for nothing. No human is perfect, and Eastern Europe was "civilized" by Russian Communism about as much as Latin America was "civilized" by Capitalist Democracy that kicked over all of the regimes that were even close to left leaning to install a right-wing dictator. Empire and more Empire disguised as a economic system. To argue with that analysis. Is not an argument you are having with Immortal Technique, but with human history kids and most history professors. Good luck with that.
If I took a room of students, and I asked them to stand up based on race, religion, the biggest racists are the ones who think humans based on being from a different race will react different to starvation or execution. To torture. As if Christians or Jews or Muslims react differently to being electrocuted until they are dying. As if being from Eastern Europe or South East Asia will affect your stomach lining from eating itself as opposed to a person who grew up in the projects in St.Louis. I just see the similarities in how people were perceived over the years. What was written and said about them. And when people fail to realize that we are one human race, and one person's struggle isn't noble while the others has to be characterized as savage. Don't play semantics with me. C'mon people.
How is it that one's struggle can be full of pride and the others is something to look down on? As if people of all colors never stole while locked behind a gate. Does it justify their enslavement? Read the MASSIVE amount of articles written about Irish, Italian, and Eastern European people in the early 1900's the same exact things were said about you that are said about Immigrants now, and about Black people. Don't trade in the legacy and pain of your families by acting like you came here on the fuckin' mayflower. I never forget when I was a kid this Italian kid I knew named Louis at this survival camp thing I was was talking with me and others. Some kid said his grandma came through Ellis, island, and that others should come here legally. Then Louis said, "yeah but she married your WOP grandfather." WOP of course being an acronym for WithOut Papers. We al laughed and the kid agreed. "Deport her" said Louis. "Deport Grandma." Although with his accent it sounded “Daporter.” Louis wasn’t a sociology professor but this ordinary kid taught me one of the most valuable lessons. He was self aware. Unless we know where we come from, how will we know where we are going. Not as a tribe of humans divided by our skin or our Gods, but as humans. Soon the war will be everywhere. In your homes, in your city, in your town.
That said, if you don't happen to agree with me. Or if my research into how people's struggles are all interconnected offend or anger you. Then please, don't leave angry. Just leave. I still love you, and when it all goes down. I'll still be here.
hard to spend millions without starting a cult by accident. he should have kept that more concentrated. if i skim and see key words i dont read it . needs to be something i can read and not have to spend weeks thinking about to understand . adding or reading keywords gets boring fast. MILLIONS
