Well that's nice of you Joe, thanks. Is that going to be the new stage or Tent plot? If you ask me, I think it would be better used as a grow box but I'm not going to argue....do what ya want. :moon:

I was gonna ask for a pint but nevermind I see the coolers.

where's the fire pit? :chin:

Peace man

Hi Joe,
I got one of the propane fire pit/table deals, we get about 6 people around it and can move it anywhere in the yard. Got a patio and deck, so its up to the wife and weather as to where it goes. Its also great for poker. Once the fake logs warm up, everyone starts moving their chairs back. Check out Costco, they have em for a decent price with chairs and all.
Peace,

joe, no worries if you don't have room for the tent I'll just sleep in a pile in the corner :D

anyways nice looking garden you built for your self. makes me want to go turn mine over - but alas it is too muddy right now. you gonna add any amendments? I only did dolomite plus some top grade screened loam and composted cow manure - 'bout a yard worth... not sure what else to add - bone meal?

hey suga...theres always floor space..hehehe we'll make room!

i got it all in one bag from, OrganicsAlive Premium Soil amendment 20$ for a
bag ...
its 50% wormCastings. 42% vegetable compost. 5% fossilized Kelp. 3% powdered rock mineral. I REALLY LIKE THIS STUFF.
1:10 the ratio...i threw in 3, 2 yd. bags of Organic soil...6 bags happy frog...
Dug down deep and turned. extra deep where the girls go...
i really could add like 10 more bags...but, i anticipate haveing extra soil around...and what better place to recycle my leftovers...

i put the soil amendment...into the turned siol b4 adding the happyfrog>>then turned it all.

maybe add some wormcastings?

Sounds like some good shit! :D

The garden's lookin great! Love your indoor trees! Can't wait to see the gals in the ground this summer! :canabis:

I remember a teacher of mine telling us there are some negative effects from adding a layer of gravel to the bottom of a container....

http://ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/1000/1251.html
--------------------------

In a saturation zone, all pores are filled with water and no air, while the mix above has pores containing both air and water. Unless roots remove the water from the saturation zone, water remains at the bottom of the pot for a long time, because evaporation through the top of the mix is a very slow process.

Lack of oxygen puts root systems of some plants under severe stress, making them more susceptible to diseases. Furthermore, pathogens such as Pythium and Phytophtora require a water-saturated environment to infect roots. For growers, minimizing the size and duration of the saturation layer should be a high priority.

The idea still persists that drainage from containers can be improved by adding a layer of coarse material, such as gravel, to the bottom of the container. In reality, this makes matters worse because the saturation layer is simply moved up, reducing the unsaturated portion of the container (Fig. 6).

Adding gravel to the bottom of a container decreases air porosity of the mix (right). The saturation zone moves up, reducing the volume of the unsaturated portion at the top of the mix. Particles in saturation zone are surrounded by water. Particles in the upper zone are surrounded by a film of water, and air fills the pores. A fine mix produces a deeper saturation zoneSaturation zone moved up. Saturation zone is 1/10 the height of a 6-inch container. Saturation zone is 1/2 the height of a plug cell

huh...awsome Pipeline....I didn't know why but if you were following my last few bins I had gravel in the bottom. My first run had a layer of gravel with holes in the bottom then stuffed in another bin with a layer of gravel...idea was for a spot for run off without making a mess. At the end of my grow I had cement in the bottom...I have no idea how the plants didn't die....literally I had roots in this soupy grey cement like mix in the bottom. ... the 150 tent had gravel in the bottom with no holes....this would be thr confused reason why the 150 tent looked to have many def. Be interesting to watch my next 2 bins with no gravel.

Thanks for the pics...end of input for me and no thread hijacking required.

Thanks Joe...came to have a look at your garden and learned something new again.....gotta love it.

Peace

yea, i dont like the gravel either...it would push down and pack tight...and hold water rather than release it...
THATS why i switched over to the pellets...
these release water well, and allow O to the roots.
I know this is fact...as my watering schedule has been moved up a full day since useing... i do have 3 with just the holes plugged w coco mat 1/4in.
we'll see if that changes things.?
very interesting and TRUE info, pipe?...GRATZI!

hmmmm...what about a "conversion" pot...just got me thinkin...bubbler in the bottom with pellets and air bubbler then a screen seperating the top half of the pot and a soiless mix on top...hmmmm...too much for no benefit?....dunno...just got me thinkin

LMFAO, dude he is trying to tell you its not good to use anything. hahaha

And I wouldnt believe what everybody tells you bro. Each container will work exactly the same except for the size of the saturation zone. But in our case bro we use it to prevent the shit from coming out.

But me who cares about the saturation zone when you have a big ass pot so what you lose 1/10 the container your going in mother earth now.

I cant wait to see how this turns out brotha. I am excited as hell.

Hey I am not trying to be an ass (but I know I am) either or tell anybody they are wrong. Just back it with the science thats all I ask cause I disagree with that document. I am in search of the exact document now. hahaha

Adding gravel to the bottom of a container decreases air porosity of the mix (right).

HOW? tell me how thats what I would like to know.

wheres pipe to splain us...?
i do use it for more than just stopping the soil from comming out...
I AM SAYING....useing the hp pellets WORKS FINE>>> better than any kind of gravel or rock ive ever tried.... the watering schedule proves it to me...i watch em dry right out...a day earlier than last year w/o pellets...
i used to just use them in the smaller pots... simply for the ease of transplant...
BUT COULD CLEARLY SEE THE ADDED Benifit...the roots dont lie. the tell you many things. good and bad...i will say this.. NEVER HAD ROOT ROT in the pots ipack.
just me?
