Actually since I started this thread I'll contribute and begin with a pretty juicy mistake I've made in the past that I've really learned a valuable lesson from:

Trusting others -

Never tell anyone where you grow or that you grow.... period. This comes off semi-cold but reality is unfortunately quite frigid at times my friends. A field full of plants quickly outweighs even the longest of friendships at times. Unless you're in on a grow with a partner who is throwing down 50/50 with you, do not tell anyone.

I may have told my girlfriend of a location I had been prepping and planting at nearby her town. One day I brought her down to show it off because we had been dating for a year by then, and were planning on moving in together soon there after I harvested. Essentially my harvest was riding on our relationship not failing but we were so close at the time that it wasn't even a possibility in my mind. Well, the unimaginable happened and shit went south.

I lost that entire crop (20 large plants) a week before I went to chop. She told someone where they were and they went and ripped them up. She made up a story that she heard about cops busting a grow in her town and said it was mine but there were so many clues that it was a ripper I knew what she had done. Note: cops chop plants at the base and rippers tend to pull the root ball out or do a messier job typically. Instead of getting revenge I separated myself from her as much as possible because whoever knows that you grow has a TREMENDOUS authority over you. Be careful of the bridges you burn folks, because they can burn you too. I sent her mother a gift for her birthday and played it off that I didn't know what really went down. Sure, I could've done something to her or her family but violence has no place in situations where the other party has any level of pull over you... it's like drawing a bulls eye on your back!

So save the bragging/showing for the end of the season folks, it's just not worth it. If you're planning an outdoor and you've already told someone then make a story up saying you're bailing on it and you've gotten cold feet. Sell it. It'll get you much more sleep come outdoor season, I promise!

Planted stuff in the corn before the last spraying of weed killer.

Planted strains that had no chance of finishing in my area.

Scouted areas in late winter and early spring. When I planted them in May all was still well. Then by June all the surrounding trees had their leaves and my site had minimal sunlight. Always scout new sites in the summer for use next year.

Planted clones outside too early. Went through the flower then reveg then flower fiasco. Harvest sucked. They never recover enough.

The cops around here always pull them up, maybe they are scared they will regrow again, or they don't even want to leave you a tiny bit of popcorn near the base of the stem.

But for me, planted clones too early, watered with a gas powered pump in the middle of the day and someone heard it and found the grow, should have gone out at daybreak or at night. Didn't realise a chicken wire fence is a must when growing in my area, and plants got eaten.
That's all I can think of at the moment.

Starting seeds too early, putting them out early and get them re-veg on me...

Shitty genetics, big waste of a season.

Not enough ferts, where fan leafs start yellowing early and causing but rot.

Not spraying BT mid season to avoid catterpillars shitting on buds!

Planted near a creek to make watering a mile shorter walk, turns out creeks attract creatures that love to eat / dig up plants.

Grew with a friend who had a son that found them and snipped all the buds off except for the colas, which is very frustrating as you can imagine. Same spot where the creek was 50 plants became about a qp by the time all of the outside interference was finished.

Also trusting someone with bloodmeal to fertilize plants a cup of bloodmeal watered into each plan equals nitro death to all.

Another one I've made is moving a male to the high weeds in a container and forgetting it's alive, or as I call it Smokey mountain magic f2 x (goji og x Jack herer). In the end the seeds produced great plants but not everyone would look at it that way.

That's why you always grow by yourself.
Many stories on here how "friends" ripped of their grow or told people who ripped it off.

It actually doesn't need more that one person to grow guerrilla, so I don't know why people persist in bringing someone else into the equation.

Really? If I were a cop I'd be too lazy to dig up 20 plants, especially big ones at that.

Do they ever leave any behind to catch the grower? I hear about that happening around here but nobody ever gets caught when they go back to grab em... I feel like it's almost a cop with a soul who chopped them and left one or two for the grower to smoke on

If the man finds mine, n its been a good grow season they chop, if its a poor grow season they pull. My biggest mistake was changing from my old potting soil, to some new soil (ocean forest) its great stuff, but it has to many goodies in it n the wild life love it. PS. Team M b glad u found out sooner, then later that your gf a peace of SHIT

Getting caught was my biggest mistake! Did so mainly by not wearing headnet one time. Pictures they got of me were good ones.

Everytime I see pictures in the paper or on tv about cops finding a grow it always shows the cops pulling them up or stacks of plants with the rootballs on the plants.

Look at the photo in the first post of this thread, the leo's are wearing gloves, and the plants have the rootballs still attached, they have been pulled up.

If they were going to stake it out I think they would leave them all in the ground, if they pulled them all except two then the grower might come to the site, see the pulled plants and take the fuck off. And the cops have to catch you cultivating, which is planting, watering, harvesting etc. to make a charge stick.
Just standing looking at them is not cultivation.

Where you the guy who got filmed by a game cam set up on the trail by leo?

To actually get you for cultivation, unless you admitt to anything, they have to catch you cultivating.
So if the camera showed you standing in the middle of the patch with a watering can in your hand then you would have a hard time explaining that.
However if it just caught you on the trail nearby, or even at the patch just standing looking at the plants, then I don't see how they could get you for cultivation, unless you admitt to cultivating them.

Good points Bush, I can attest to that as well. In the other thread I made a post concerning the 2 most riskiest points in time and that's harvesting and transplanting. Watering would be the third if it's done by hand because you can ONLY be convicted if you're caught in the act of watering or harvesting.

I'm getting some trail cams this year but only putting them on the game trails I use to enter my patches so I can't be linked to the patch and just say I use it for monitoring game. This is why I made this thread, so many good lessons are to be learned such as this one. Thanks for stopping in dude.

How many plants did you originally have? I'm sorry to hear that man... unlucky as hell. Do you mind explaining what happened so we know what to look out for? (clues to LEO's staking out patches)

ahhh I hear you I hear you. It's funny how they think a plant could grow back from chopping it at the stalk lol... silly LEO's

I've heard about guanos and animal by-products attracting animals out in the bush too man, I guess it's true. I'm trying a veganic super soil that I'll add 50/50 to my native soil in 60 gallon DIY fabric pots that are bottomless and allow roots to just sink down into the earth. The recipe was inspired by Dragonfly Earth Medicine.

Does anyone know if animals are attracted to veganic ingredients at all? I just wanna be sure before I waste time lugging all this out into the bush... :tiphat:

Yes they got me harvesting plants and could describe clothing worn and gunny sacks I used to put harvest in. There was no denying it they got me dead to rights. I admitted nothing until I had too though.

Any idea where the camera was (was there more than one), like was it up a tree or down at ground level? How far away from the plants?
Was it a game cam or one with live video feed?

If I find a game cam at my spot then it's going swimming in the creek.
I would keep it but you nevr know if it's got a tracking device in it.

I had one spot staked out once, but they were just seedlings in beer cups.
They must of had a sensor in the patch because as I was walking off after watering them they came charging through the bush to my patch.
I think they waited for a bit after the sensor went off to give me time to start cultivating, but I was too quick watering and then getting straight the fuck out because the last time I was there I could tell someone had been there, so I had the wind up me and didn't hang around.

Some areas they send the dog squad in after you with german shephard dogs.
If your area is in the country then they probably wont have a dog squad available so you don't have to worry about that.
Sometimes you know the dogs quad is there because you can hear the dogs barking, german shephards have a different bark than other dogs if you are experienced in differentiating it.
That said, the dogs rarely bark, so it's not a foolproof method.
Other times you can hear the handlers communicating with the dogs, some whistle, some give them verbal commands, and there is one sneaky guy who uses imitation bird whistles to communicate with his dog.

That one nearly got me once; I was escaping and evading along the bottom of a rocky gully, and I new one was hot on my tail and gaining on me.
When I got to a rocky area I went sideways at right angles and up the side of the stony gully, and then sat down in cover.
The one that was hot on my tail didn't pick up that I had gone off at right angles and kept going along the bottom of the gully.
After they had gone past I then decided to double back so I headed back the way I had come going along the side of the gully.
I started hearing this bird whistling ahead of me, and I remember thinking that's one busy bird, because from long experience out there I knew birds didn't whistle constanty.
As I got closer I realised, that's no bird, that's someone making imitation bird whistles.
I had thought there was only one on my tail, and I lost that one by going off at right angles, but what I didn't know was that there was another one going parallell and behind the first one, and I was walking straight into him.
So then I had to evade that one, which I did, and then climbed down a cliff and holed up in a cave.

I thought when it got dark they would go, but they didn't, but they switched on these powerful torches so at least I could see where they were.
There were 4 of them, so four german shephard dogs with their handlers, and there may have been some other cops with them.
I tried to break out a couple of times but each time I tried the torches would swing towards me so I had to retreat to my cave.
The third time I tried to break out the torches didn't swing towards me so I though I might have a chance here, but then I heard one of the dogs panting as it came towards me.
It was dark so I couldn't see it but I could hear it.
I froze and the panting went past me sounded like ten yards away, and then when it had gone past I retreated into my cave again.
They kept me pinned down for hours, but than at some time I realised they weren't there anymore, so I waited for a while and then cautiously climed up the hill and started heading back to civilisation.
Anyway they must of just left because as I was heading back to civilisation I could see their torches ahead of me a couple of hundred yards also heading back to civilisation.
So I followed them back to civilisation.
