You better break out the Sgt.Stedenko she looks like she's gonna be a beast!
I'm ignorant in the ways of electricity. Could you give a bit more info on the size, and how you power and regulate your exhaust fan please Is it pretty quiet?
StupidBoy,
The fan is a Soler and Palau TD100X (4"). You can wire up the fan on either low or high. Mine's on low right now and it's more than enough for the cab size and lighting. I installed the speed controller from S&P but I'm not using it. It causes the fan to hum and is louder dialed down than non regulated. Apparently a Variac transformer is the best thing for dialing down these fans, but they are expensive and really not needed atm.
I think the smooth walled rigid duct helps in controlling the whooshing sound of air moving through the duct. I built a duct muffler and put it on the end of the fan and I couldn't be happier with the sound.
MG2011 and Lokey,
Thanks for stopping by and the kind words.
Variacs are variable voltage transformers. Their output voltage is constant regardless of current drawn, until overloaded.
rheostats... the more current drawn, the more voltage drop rheostats will have.
IMO, Variac will overheat your motor. I think they're commonly used to test electronic components that fool the tech. A component may not show the broken or incorrect aspect and the Variac weeds the chaff. There's a post from pontiac (I think) where the fan plug was pulled and monster sparks emitted from the Variac.
I use a Dial-A-Temp rheostat and the hum is noticeable. But the overall noise is less than the otherwise full speed fan. Can't hear the minor hum with the cab closed.
Thanks Disco,
Take my Variac recommendation with a grain of salt, all. I read on some other forums about people using a Variac and saying it worked better than the rheostats as far as hum goes. Something to do with the S&P rheo basically starting and stopping the motor at such a fast rate that the hum comes into play. Maybe they haven't run the Variac long enough to experience those problems. I haven't tried one and my electrical knowledge isn't quite what it should be to be making that recommendation.
Hope all is well in the biscuit box.
between readin your's and disco's grows is still truelly informantive, loved the mason jar meters, its amazing what potheads and growers can craft. i cant wait till my plants are done becus i want to try hydro still. just been shopping for parts and prolly goin to upgrade to a 250w hps instead of this 150. hell maybe ill craft a box with the 150 for hydro. plants looking great there Sargent. keep posting i love reading ur grows!
Day 27 lights out. Starting to see what I think is the start of a calcium deficiency in some of the newer fan leaves. The res is due for a change, so tomorrow I'll start fresh and keep the pH between 5.5 anf 5.7 for a couple of days to see if it quits spreading.
they are looking 10 fold better then last time. I would add some cal mag to the mix for insurance if they are showing a slight deficiency. MJ loves CalMag, like stoners love weed.
Hello Gentlemen,
I refilled the res today to 1120uS and pH 5.6. I'll try to keep the pH below 5.7 to increase Ca uptake.
I also did a foliar feeding of 1/4 tsp dolomite lime dissolved in a quart of water for a cheap cal/mag boost.
I'm still playing with 27% H2O2 added every day or so for the short O2 saturation boost and disinfectant properties.
The roots sure are shiny.
Were getting stinky in the cab. Bringing her out today for the res change added a funk to the house.
Nothing better than a house that smells like funk
cal/mag is something I really need to get..my bloom feed even recommends it...
plants are beautiful Sgt!!
