The investigation into $2 million worth of marijuana found in Northfield Township home on Friday has led to the seizure of three times that amount of the drug at a south suburban home, Cook County Sheriff's police announced this morning.
In the later case, authorities found marijuana that was in the growing and harvesting stages, said Cook County sheriff's police spokeswoman.
One man has been charged with a Class X drug felony in connection with both cases, Mateck said. More information on the investigation and charges will be released during a noon press conference today at Cook County Sheriff's Police Headquarters in Maybrook, she said.
On Friday, sheriff officers and the Highland Park Police Department executed a search warrant at a home in the 1800 block of Holly Road and found $2 million in marijuana.
The drugs were being grown in two bedrooms filled with dozens of plants as high as 4 feet tall, officials said. More than 95 pounds of marijuana ready for sale was found in plastic bins in the living room and attic, they said. The pot was hydroponic marijuana, a more potent and expensive type of the drug, said officials, who also found 300 hits of LSD and five grams of heroin.
Two men were taken into custody. The men had rented the home in the "upscale neighborhood" for more than eight months, according to a news release.
