I am really happy to see so many people converting to LED (despite me complaining about burning my leaves up ).

A friend of mine and I are currently racing a couple Giant Guava plants from seed - mine under the screw ins in veg, his are outdoor in full sun till about 2pm and shade later in the afternoon. So far, my plants are all beating his in development (branching, height, leaf size). To be fair, I am cheating a bit (20/4 lighting vs. 14/10 lighting outside), but to say my veg chamber at 20w per sqft can keep up with anything outdoors is a major victory. :dance013:

While I am on the topic of LEDs, 13 weeks on the Mauritius x Ethiopian and we're developing a FAN-FRIGGIN-TASTIC lavender-earth-lemons smell! I was expecting a more landrace / old school smell similar to a haze - which would be more in line with its style of development. Its flowers are starting to make the 16w LEDs look tiny by comparison, which makes me giggle everytime I walk into the closet.

As usual, Med Tree lines are easy to grow and rewarding as hell.. Slurm side of Purple Slurm (pck x slurm) is developing heroic levels of frost for 3 weeks in:

I'm outa reps for you. What are those things, 3 footers? It all looks great.

I've tried to spread the religion about the LED's but usually get awkward silence. I shouldn't be suggesting things to established growers. It's usually taken wrong.

So figured a nice 3 step process to getting these damn led lights apart without killing yourself....

Punch hole in glove with screwdriver

Cut dome off with tin snips

Trim up base of globe

Deal. I'm all about adding some new genetics of yours to the lineup. Have continuum sprouted and going strong and placed 3 slurm beans in soil not 5 minutes ago.

I had my latest drinkable tested. Came back at just under 2 mg/ mL. Looks like I exceeded my goal of 50 mg per oz. I'll bring some samples
Next Buds and Beers is coming up 8/5 PM for details

14 week chop on the lavender-earthy Mauritius x Ethiopian:

Early smoke is pretty strong. Devastating and somewhat paralysing sativa stone similar to Malawi, but more thought provoking / introspective like a lot of hazes can be. When ground, the buds are lavender-earthy-lemons smelling (in roughly that order). The smoke is lavender-woody on the first hit, followed by damp earth for the following draws. The devastating effect was short lasting (30 min or so), whereas in Malawi I'm usually worthless for a few hours. I had to stop trimming the plant midway through as the texture of the Mauritius x Ethiopian 14 week flowers I was cleaning up had too many nooks and crannies and it was too much 3D / psychedelic for me to handle. :)

My outdoor Honduras x Alien OrangeADE is really starting to show its Honduran influence in development. Its also getting humorously large - roughly 9ft now. I've moved it into a bit more wind to try and strengthen the stem before flowering starts as the parents on both sides have very large buds and stem breakage is a real possibility. Here's a picture from the top of a ladder (10 gal pot for scale ):

The Ethio leaning Mauritius x Ethiopian outside is about 6ft tall and topped about a hundred times, so its a big flat bush that I will be training into an outdoor scrog over roughly a 7'x7' area. I'll probably toss it into a larger container at some point as well, but for now we're still in 3.5 gallons of soil.

So, I'm throwing in the towel with my LED experiments... They just ruin my plants! Rust spotting that looks like Calcium def show up, as well as leaves that are bleached out and unhealthy looking, even in the not-so-intense zones.

I really thought it might be something else but I have a solid A/C running so temp is stable and no other changes...as soon as I switched back to CFL bulbs, it took 2 days until they sprouted new, healthy tissue.

I was considering switching over but instead opted to stick with my 8 bulb Badboy and get a case of T5's...for those of you who had waited too long to simply replace your bulbs, wait no more! You'll feel years younger...

But as far as switching to these LED's, I'd say don't do it if you like healthy plants. Besides, the 99 cent store has 40 watt T4's. (how bout dat, a CFL is actually called a T4...) They work really well and are worth the relatively negligible increase in wattage.

That's a bummer to hear! I've read quite a but about the sporting issues that people seem to associate with led however I haven't noticed any myself yet so the leds continue to burn bright!

Hey Tardigrade, sorry to hear you're having trouble. If you're running 14w LEDs at anything less than about 10 inches off the bulbs, you're going to cook your plants just like you would under a 600w HPS at 8 inches off the bulb.

This image comes to mind:
picture.php

In setups like what I've seen from you in the past, you'd probably do a lot better with 8w bulbs which do well around 4 inches off the canopy like Blynx runs in his cabs.

I would place the 8 watt units at 400w HPS bright if you're about 4-6" off the canopy and 14w units are closer to 600w HPS - 10-14" off the canopy. Any closer and you're begging for burn / weird nutrient issues like you're describing.

I figured out that my ugly leaves on the Mauritius x Ethiopian were partly due to the leds being too close - but mostly my own damn fault. After chopping the plant down, I took the buckets apart to find root rot setting in. Mental note, wash out your SIP reservoirs every month or so to make sure everything stays clean.

Here are some horrible looking ;) Med Tree Purple Slurm (which is quite lemony) at 4.5 weeks under the leds.

Yeah, I'm not counting them out for everyone, but I basically grow in a shoe box so I need a tolerance they do not offer...properly diffused/positioned maybe they might be more friendly for some.
