Damn, I knew I should have gotten neem earlier. The MOD is looking a bit suspicious. I'll be going to the garden store today, pick up some neem oil, molasses (will be starting adding it this week - maybe water --> molasses --> nutes as a watering cycle...sound ok?), and some soil etc. Screw the garlic/pepper spray.
Will post pics when I go and spray them. The fan leaves on the MOD are getting freakin huge already!
***Got some neem - the most expensive thing in my grow - nearly $30US for 500mL!!!. I think it will be worth it, though.
Picked up some other bug deterrent (smells like tobacco, most probably is) and some slug pellets (all claiming to be organic).
Also got some molasses and some more soil/perlite/peat moss, as I'll be transplanting some more seedlings soon. I've got HB, Satori, Skunk, another MaT, and some Snow White that I really want to get in the ground, but they still haven't shown sex...
I want to use the pots they're in to transplant my Zamal seedlings into. Maybe I'll wait another week...or maybe I'll just transplant one or two.
***I went up to my plot to spray my plants with neem after spraying my seedlings, and noticed some more evidence of bugs eating the MaT. Gave them all a good spray so should be good. Will reapply on Sat or Sun.
***Checked on my MaT male - a pollen sack had already burst, releasing dust!!! Thats quick. (lolremature ejaculation).
It's my first time flowering a male, I'll take a pic and show you. I don't think its meant to be flowering just yet.
Will post more pics after the weekend! Have fun, I received a parcel from EDIT during the week with some things I'm saving for the weekend! Wheeeeee!
phate: thanks and no, they didn't taste too great at all.
Was able to visit yesterday, but had to hurry back, so I couldn't get to my male. Sprayed some more neem and checked the recovery from the topping.
I see that once again I've failed terribly in my FIMming attempts. Not to worry, they all look good. The Menage a Trois keeps surprising me every time I see it:
I put a bic lighter there for scale. The fan leaves are easily bigger than my hands. Its getting bushy as hell. Still easily the biggest and best in the garden. I think this ones gonna be a real early finisher.
Here`s the only Zamal I have out at the moment:
And heres where the new growth is after topping the MaT. I was surprised to have this much growth so soon. I keep saying it, but this MaT has been the best, most vigorous, healthiest and fastest-growing plant out of the whole lot! Definetely using this for f2s.
Alrighty, I got to check on my main man yesterday, here he is:
I can`t tell, can you guys see any balls???
Waiting for some pollen:
Group shot:
I really gotta get these into the ground. Probably this weekend. I've got 2-3 confirmed females, at least. Some are def. due for a transplant. Yep, have to do it this weekend.
Well, got another 2 into the ground yesterday, which makes for one female of each of my strains in the ground. Excellent. Gotta get the rest out and in the holes.
I also have 2 big pots and 2-3 smaller ones from last year to use outside, too, giving me space for about 15 plants.
Males are looking to be pretty scarce atm, I'm determined to make some a few crosses this year so I hope I get a couple, at least a Satori. Seeds are just too risky to be ordering right now in Japan. (Even though they're legal )
I`ve gotta open up the canopy a little bit more too, I'm starting to use the upper tiers of my plot. I'll post a simple diagram of my main plot.
M = Menage a Trois (I don't have a clever pic for that)
The black circles are holes, dug early this year and the rather clayish soil amended with lots of nice organic material. The red holes are where I'm going to put some pots.
Hmm...I see my old images are being replaced with new ones. Must be doubling up filenames...
Anyway, I had the pleasure of being able to spend some quality time at my plot yesterday, I planted two more: a satori and a hashberry, and sprayed all of the plants with neem, gave them some molasses and cleared more area around them to try and reduce bugs.
About 3 feet now.
Nice and thin leaves on the skunk.
Just planted.
Menage a Trois - Bushy as fuck. Already about 4 feet...
djff: Thanks dude, actually they've still got a while to go before they even start flowering...I can harvest early indicas around October here, which means they'll have another 2 months of veg or so...
The big one is as big as my plants were at harvest time last year!
The only thing that might hold them back a little in this plot is root space...I wish I dug bigger holes...they'll be alright though.
I also have to get the chainsaw out again, if I don't open up the canopy a little, the plants on the upper tiers may mold, and also not reach their potential.
Oh, btw...when checking on the girls yesterday I saw at least one earthworm in the soil in every hole...which probably means there's a lot more underneath the surface...welcome residents in any garden of mine, a good sign.
I also went to check on my MaT male in my sub-plot. He looked OK, but I don't hink he appreciated me cutting him in half basically, to put inside to collect pollen.
He was lying down after all the rain, and when I put him up straight, I noticed a couple of thick roots growing into the ground where he had been touching it! The opportunistic hairs on the stem had turned into roots. Living in the hole next to him was a big-ass red crab. Pretty random.
Speaking of males, I only have him atm, I need mOAR maleZz plz! MOAR!
i have been following this. i like it. i had to write something to send you support. that monkey makes me mad too!!!! but yet i like the monkey. interesting?
littlej: Thanks for the kind words, stick around. I find it hard to hate the monkeys too. At least they've stayed away so far.
Haven't been able to get to my plot because of heavy rain, so I decided to do what I could for the time being. I replanted 2 ZamalxSkunks that really needed it:
You can see the "before" cup on the left, the "after" on the right.
Bit of perlite and some rocks on the bottom, then soil and perilte mix, then top up with just soil. I don't need perlite on top. I also don't add any amendments to the soil until they're in their final hole/pot.
A joint...its only leaf inside.
I liked these pics, especially the blue. (camera phone, no filters):
hamstring: Thanks, but the plants are the ones doing all the work!
All the monkeys have to do is ask...
Quick update: I made a mad dash to my plot this morning before work, I just had to check that they were OK. I took some pics but there's not all that much difference, just a bit more growth, especially the Zamal.
Theres been heavy rain the last coupla days, and a lot more forecast, so I wanted to see how they were doing. Were looking pretty good.
The neem seems to be working very well, but I think the constant rain also might have stopped the bugs from getting onto the plants?
I've got to get the last plants into the ground, I'll have 9-10 in the ground plus at least another 2 in pots in my main site, and I think I might pot up a male and female and put them in another secluded guerilla spot to live happily ever after and make some babies.
Probably Satori male, cause they are the strain I have the most of, and most likely to get a male, but I don't know which female. Any ideas? I've got excess ZamalxSkunk fems, I might use one of them. I also plan on pollenating a couple of my plants in my main spot.
I have more plants than I probably need this season, which is how I planned it.
Anyway, seeya later. Hopefully I can get all the plants to the plots this weekend and next - things aren't as safe at my house anymore...somethings telling me to get them out! And I usually listen. Will let u know.
Things are looking awesome man, and it looks like you know exactly what you're doing. As long as the monkeys or any animals don't get to your crop, you should be doing great!
rcknrllmothrfck: thanks, I got the ideas for the organic soil mix, neem and molasses from here. Up until now, I've been using chem nutes and pest control. I like the idea of organics much better. Fingers crossed for a smooth harvest.
Vol Funk: Yeah, I'm looking forward to it, from the reports it sounds good. On the outside chance that it sucks I'll just make some hash.
That's further down the road, gotta get this crop into jars first!
Well, cleared out all my plants that I still had at home, carried them all up the mountain in two trips. I just left them at the plot, had only just enough time to spray neem, give them a little organic liquid nutes and get out of there. Will try to get them into pots/ground today.
Temporarily moved two Zamals to another spot. Gotta make sure the house is clean. Can't get into any bad habits.
ps. Smoked some more MaT leaves...they got me more stoned than I'd like to admit. Thanks to not smoking for months, I now have the tolerance of a little girl.
Well, no rain yet. Was meant to be heavy all this week. Not much happening at the plot, they all seem pretty happy, the neem seems to be working well. Found more monkey-eaten fruit near my plot.
Took this pic of the MaT, getting near 5 feet now. Those fan leaves are getting faaaaat. Indica all the way.
