S2 seed question

my reversal came for free, a brainwreck(trainwreck x white widow) that hermied
not what everybody would grow out, but the seeds were free so what the hell
it's become a strange adventure with the offspring being 50/50 herms
but with some pretty good phenos in there to make it worth it

How many have you grown out so far? Did any taste just like mom or stronger?
maybe 30 or there abouts
I also used the hermie pollen on a normal femme which gave me another genetic maze that I've been running and haven't run the original S1s since
an exact match on the taste of the original has eluded me
the very first S1 seed was probably closest, it was very good but exact? no, good but different
I've documented my misadventures in a breeding log in the breeders lab, about 10 years worth if you want more details - https://www.icmag.com/threads/a-self-pollinated-f1-what-might-pop-out.198814/

If one sees s2 as pure inbreed, it might be less good germination rate.
'so, from the 500 seeds only 250 sprout, right!?
But therefore i ve got a few hundred seeds to select the very best in a Garden of Freakplants!11
s2 is always good. Brings out the most extrovagant traits in their most noble appeal.
since they are free. And might be even freaky. Or just different.
Wouldnt keep herms on that stage, bro, on the other hand, thats all ive got
to make s3. so herming must be achievable by force. or pollen is needed.

Bro sci. Over and out.

if they are grown /dried ok they should all grow fine
..s2 is nothing to the plant ..just like making selfed seed..
its a cannabis plant..its pollen..its a seed..

I have never had germination problems on any seeds I've made, s2 included.

Often times the seeds I make have very hard shells and take a little longer but all eventually come up. I do store in the fridge though. I believe that makes a difference.

Even when planning to germinate soon after harvest I try to get them a week in the fridge after drying to give them a little "Spring feeling".

I like to grow two plants of the same strain about a month a part in planting time. Then I reverse the first plant and time the reversal with the maturing of the second plant. I then take the reversed plants pollen and pollinate the second plant. I toss the plant that was reversed after using it's pollen. I have found that the seeds made from this germinate at a higher rate than if the plant were reversed and self pollinated. I have actual data for every seed plopped and I filtered out the S2s to find that they have a 61% germination rate in my garden. The seeds I make reversing a plant and pollinating another plant have a 94% germination rate in my setup.

I didn't self pollinate the plant I took seeds from. I reversed a clone with sts and only used it for pollen, neither of my seed plant hermed or were sprayed with sts.
Blueberry are both in front. White rhino back left.

Took fans off yesterday to expose the sites . Damn this thing is slow, must be pushing those sativa genetics from mom? Very lanky plant with minimal bud sites compared to mom or the rhino blueberry cross plants..still no smell. 🤦‍♂️

Hi

I see some green tint on some of those seeds, which suggests that you harvested them a bit too early

maybe that’s one reason for poor germination

I remember reading that Sam Skunkman allowed seeds to mature for like ten weeks before harvesting them to make sure they are fully ripe and to have longer storage life.

If I was really picky about what seeds I chose to keep maybe I'd have a higher germ rate. However this isn't for commercial purposes it's personal so I just kept most anything that looked somewhat reasonable even If odd shaped.
These are R1 and s2 (side by side)seeds from the same pollen don

These are just the R1s .. better quality picture though View attachment 19149518

Maybe 100/2000 seeds I kept have green on them i wasn't too choosey as It's my first time and It was just for personal use not sales.
Heavy heavy forced pollination occured week 4 and 5. However I feel the first pollinating begain week 3.
I'd have to look , but off the top of my head I'd say I flowered bb 10wks and the rhino 11 since it was a slower starting plant.
The rhino children are almost 100% germ rate..
The s2 seeds , when I choose good looking seeds seem to be 70% germ rate.

This blueberry finishes very quick so when I noticed brown zebra seeds , some falling out I decided to chop.

I cleaned most of my seeds the day I was done drying. However these seeds are from the buds I've kept to smoke of the white rhino. They are more robust in size and shape however the blueberry s2 seeds have a stronger zebra black/brown finish.

So many seeds per bud. It's ridiculous.... if I was selling these I'd be stoked but as a home grower wanting to smoke this is just crazy...I'd be pissed if I grew plants like that on accident.

Those are little pale in color too

Usually not too many seeds fall out of the bracts no matter how long you flower the plant unless you disturb the plant. so it's not something you have to worry about very much.

The plant’s finishing time for smokes and seed harvest are two different things, brother

You harvest the weed when it’s the most optimal for your smokes but you harvest the seeds when they are fully ripe. Plant stress has a factor on how fast seeds mature. It's better to let seeds mature for 2-3 weeks too long than 1 week too little

Makes sense maybe the spots I disturbed were causing them to fall as well.
Far as quality goes . I’ve purchased seeds from plenty of reputable companies and in person I'd say my seeds look healthier than most all of them. Especially the seeds of my rhino they are very robust and sturdy . I just lack a good camera and light for pictures.
One day I'll find a few people looking to run some and we can see what they have to offer.

I don't sand them down or wash them off. They still have skin. I can't crush them with my finger. Pic from original harvest. Not my curing w33d seeds

I have also received seeds that are noticeably greener than your seeds. It’s not a nice thing to see when you paid good money for them. When seeds are fully mature they don’t have any grren hues on them, whether they are naturally dark in color or lighter brown or grey.

Having little green hue on them doesn’t mean they wouldn’t grow but it can lead to germination issues sooner or later.

For me 7 weeks is absolute minimum maturing time but usually i let my seeds go longer than that.
