What's the average germination rate expected from an s2 seed in your experience? T I A

interesting question, I thought it would be near 100 percent
then I've been running some s2 seeds, surprise! - not so good
haven't run too many but they've been sprouting less than expected, 50/50 maybe

that's about the ratio I'm seeing. 12/21 sprouted , however I only waited 72hrs for the results. Also have been using half good half less than desirables which probably has been hurting my numbers. . I'm just happy they work incase one day I lose my plant. 50/50 works for me.

Interesting that you should bring this up - I recently pulled some S1's out of the freezer, and much to my dismay, I am only seeing 50/50 germ rate as well! The seeds were fully mature and dried properly before freezing them, and I expected to see much better germination!

50/50 is better than nothing. I wish you luck on your s1 hunt! I've only owned one pack of s1 seeds (that im aware of) . Half of those didn't germ for me.

My R1 seeds are over 90%. The most robust looking seeds I've had in my possession so far. Fast out of the gate too

I'll get you a picture later, nothing unusual looking though
and high confidence the seed's parentage is as described, micro grower with a plant or 2 and high isolation of plants

I have seen no difference...I feel that selfed plants care or know little that they have been selfed..

s2 selfed seed may have less vigour sometimes] over non fem...and make nice plants

This was from my own batch as well, I haven't had poor germination like this before, the seed is only 6 or 7 yrs old

If I was really picky about what seeds I chose to keep maybe I'd have a higher germ rate. However this isn't for commercial purposes it's personal so I just kept most anything that looked somewhat reasonable even If odd shaped.
These are R1 and s2 (side by side)seeds from the same pollen don

These are just the R1s .. better quality picture though

seeds look fine to me but I'm not an expert, I too grow for personal
I suspect our S2s can be sprouted better with some additions to our starter setup
one thing I did read was about a breeder talking about his technique for S5s, maybe S6s!
he described those seedlings as being very weak and had to be nursed into health
so maybe having S2s that need some help isn't a stretch
