those ones are quite large compared to the ones around here, probably just a different sub-species.

I would recommend using some bifinthrin to kill the adults immediately, it seems the imid has to be consumed for it to work well. Aphids transfer diseases and put toxins in the plant while are feeding on the roots. They can be helped through this by applying a foliar feeding of 325mg/1gallon of asprin/water.

I would say apply the imid/bifinthrin root drench and the asprin foliar feeding every 4 days for a total of 3 applications.

Any soil or coco you have laying around in the room needs to be gotten rid of as well, anything that holds moisture in the room needs to be thrown out.

just my 2cents, but your weren't even asking so just ignore it

I just feel its my duty to help people get rid of these bastards since they have caused me such great harm in the past, genocide all the way, kill them all.

Yea I have dealt with them for a while. I really believe if you keep up on them, they are quite harmless. I am still pullin great yields and quality....they are not like mites.

But yes, genocide is the goal. Azamax is a joke to them, they drink that shit. SNS203 is crap too.

My opinion, and what I am going to do in May after a 2 year battle, is to toss everything. Bleach the room, take clones away from grow room, and start fresh. I have hit them with everything and it is futile. Happy New Year!

after root aphids mature dont they leave the soil and fly to make more eggs??? I use Diatomaceous earth top dressing will kill any bug that crawls on it. It is Organic and not a pesticide.

Pesticides I have use a product called Sevin-5 dust. Knocks out any bug I have ever had. I have not tried it on mites never had them..

What is Sevin Dust?

Sevin insecticide dust (made by Garden Tech) is a popular name-brand pesticide containing carbaryl, a pest control product that has been used by gardners for years to control insects in gardens, ornamentals and on crops and edible vegetables. Sevin dust is considered a broad-spectrum insecticide, meaning that it will kill the majority of insects that come into contact with it. This includes insects that infest vegetable plants as well as some pollinating and flying insects.

Sevin dust bug killer is available in a dust form as well as a liquid concentrate. Most gardners prefer Sevin Dust as it is easier to apply in the dust form and comes in a covenient 1 lb. shaker container. Be careful when applying Sevin on flowering plants or flowers that attract pollinating insects as Sevin will kill those beneficial insects if they should come in contact with the chemical. Sevin has low toxicity to mammals when used as directed.

The thing with root aphids...as you will find out, is that they will CONTINUE to come back...time...and time again, they are a formidable enemy. You have to be sure to kill every single one of them, and get the egg cycle disrupted at the same time - quite a hard task.

I landed on Spectracide with Triazicide because it does not remain in plant tissues the way imid products do. I also used it to treat the areas so as to kill as many flyers as possible. I flooded my tables for several hours, then drained, did this three times and that did the trick. I hated doing it, I get frogs in that area and other living things that I encourage, and I hated killing them all with a passion.

HOWEVER, had I known that dipping the ROOTS (rooted cuts, whatever) in 125*F water for 5mins has a 100% kill rate, I would have done that instead of the chemicals except to kill the flyers. I think the flyers may have been easier to kill than the animals living in the root zone.

DE did nothing to control numbers of flyers or aphids in my situation. The first infestation I experienced occurred outdoors in pure perlite hempy tubs. They scoffed at the Azama/Azatrol drenches, thought I was really funny, but then they got pissed off and reproduced like mad. Neem? Not the Neem I used, further pissed them off. I did the Bayer T&S 3x on the vegging plants and it did not a thing, then I read up more on imidacloprid and decided it's absolutely not the product for me.

Let's run an experiment. Someone will send you a bunch of fresh, live root aphids and you can inoculate your room then see how well the neem does in getting rid of them.

I had them in a small soil grow and experimented with Imid and 1 treatment got rid of them. My soil was literally foaming with them when I tapped the top of the pots. I killed the plants and tossed the soil as the genetics were not critical.

My opinion, and what I am going to do in May after a 2 year battle, is to toss everything. Bleach the room, take clones away from grow room, and start fresh. I have hit them with everything and it is futile. Happy New Year!
Basically the most foolproof way to get rid of them is by cloning them out of existence and cleaning your room. Make sure when you clone there's none crawling on the cuts lol. Chemical treatments like Imid do work though and have seen many have success with it. Part of the program though is cleaning up. They are highly mobile. They are truly the bugs from hell.

I just want to add my personal experience with the Dia Earth... I bought a 50 pound bag of the stuff... It did not work for me as advertised... even sticking ants in a baggie with the stuff.. didn't kill them... Spreading the stuff on top of Coco didn't work either...

Just my experience with the Dia earrth and root aphids

kill em with forbid. i use as a preventative every other round, in veg.

forbid 4f, like the miticide?
i have a bottle for mites, didn't know I could use it for RAs.
Of all my years growing, I've never had the dreaded RAs.
I think I've dealt with just about everything else. Ugh.

Ya know I haven't seen allot of ppl talk about perlite. I have topped all my plants with 1-2inches of perlite. It doesn't kill them but it stops the proliferation. I think it does this by interrupting their cycle. For plants that are already infected it doesn't kill them but, new mothers can be started in the same room without being infected by topping those too. I also run the coco a little bit dryer than I normally would for a couple weeks. Very simple, effective, and none toxic. This has worked for me.

Sometimes the little fuckers crawl over but its not their preferred method of proliferation. They much rather fly over. A simple tray of some kind is enough to stop them there.

Quick ORGANIC method for controlling the flyers & identifying them,
Example, put a full glass of water, arouind the plants, they will eventually land in the water and die then you can also identify your pest, if you have unwanted flying insect guests this will help you keep on top of them without any bullshitz pcides ,,

GOOD LUCK

So far I have used Imid (bayer), Spectracide with triazicide, and Azamax (at a lower dose)and non have worked 100% so far. Each knocked them down a little, but that is it. I'm about to give Pyganic (aka Evergreen) 5% pyrethrin a chance. Fingers crossed!
