Your right Hempkat.your right.but just because you can play guitar with your teeth doesn't mean your the best.we'll leave it at that.respect

No no, that's not why I think he was the greatest. Not because of playing behind his back either. Those things were just showmanship for live audiences, I doubt he ever played behind his back or with his teeth when he was cutting albums at various recording studios. It was because his sound was/is very distinctive and way ahead of it's time.

Who are you? Why don't you tell me who the fuck are you? I really want to know. Eat your own words Pete and Roger. Weed made rock popular. If you're too old for weed, you're too old for rock.
This is coming from a guy who's fav. album in high school was Who's Next.

The idea of a best guitar player is just daft. There are lots of awesome players out there. The only best is who an individual listener likes the best.

Jimi was a guitar genius. Electric guitar has moved on a lot in terms of technique since he pioneered a lot of the techniques that became mandatory in rock, but I guarantee if he were coming up in 1980, he'd have outshredded Malmsteen or any of the super technical robot shred players. The guy could take a right handed guitar, flip it around and play it perfectly without swapping the string order. Genius.

It ain't really genius if that's how you learned to play guitar in the first place.
Being a right handed guitar player and then playing flipped left-handed would be genius.

My old buddy who played the same way explained why he didn't reverse the strings.
"I learned on my brother's guitar and he wouldn't let me switch the strings."

Jimi's genius came out of the boredom of being a background guitarist for the Isleys, Little Richard and Curtis Knight. There's only so many ways to slick up funk chops that they'll let you get away with.
Maybe a bit of showing off for some of those up and coming British youngsters was involved too. :)
