Rockwool question...

Hello!
Im a newbie at growing, and have gleaning trough alot of great posts here, but none answered my qustions (or im stupid and missed that one..) about growing in rockwool, can I use ordinary rockwool thats used to insulate walls and floors in houses? If so, what kind should I use, the harder one used for the groundisolation or the ordinary softer one for drywalls etc... Whats the main difference between commercial grow-rockwool cubes and the construction one? I hope I dont offend anyone by my novice questions. Its just that I have alot of that stuff in my (neighbours) basement...=)

Dont use that stuff, it will kill your plants. Buy rockwool that is used for growing cannabis, its not that expensive.

seriously moppel is not shitting you, get proper horticultural rockwool, the building grade stuff has fire retardant chemicals in it and could also be contaminated with allsorts of other nasties like bugs and bacteria-yuk. The main difference between horti and building type rockwool would be the quality and cleanliness of it, but mostly the fire retardant chems in it-these will do ur plants major harm-probably killing them but definately stunting them.
you could insulate a serious growbox with that old stuff though lol.....

Right on the money- I work with building grade rock and crownwool on a daily basis and I really wouldnt recommend using that gear. Rockwool cubes (horti) are so cheap to buy and you know what your getting. Our rockwool as stated above has numerous fibres and chemicals in it, so that it can keep up with corrent building regulations. It really is a fucking horrible product, most packets of building grade rocwool have a health warning sticker on them, apparently can lead to cancer, broncitus(sp) its as bad as espestos for your health- Dont use it
