jewwells i think the emergency blanket is also used for heat reduction...but i would recommend painting it 2 coats black then 2 coats white if your trying to be stealthy...i didnt paint mine and with about 200 watt of light the whole box "glows" but im not as worried about stealth just wanted something that my wife couldnt hurt...my last grow she kept flicking the lights on in the room so i got a crummy hermie

Just thought I'd post a little update on my rubbermaid grow. I had some luck and ended up with 4 AK-48 females out of 5 plants. I've just trimmed them up a bit and did some more tying down. I flushed today and hope to flower within the next week or two. The plants are two days away from being exactly six weeks. The 3 ounce mark seems reachable, as the plants have been filling out nicely with no major problems as of yet. Two of the girls are growing faster and branching out more so I choose to clone them so that I'll have more to flower when these are done.

These first two are the two biggest. (I'm hoping for about 10-12 nice tops)

The next two are smaller (hoping for about 8 nice tops)

And finally a toast to the future! :joint:

I have an electrical question. The place where I would be keeping my grow is my closet. Unfortunately for me the closest plug is quite far away from the closet. That being said can I use one extension cord to run to a power stip. Then from the power stip plug in the timer I need. And then plug the light strip into the timer and run the strip off of that one timer. Is that do-able? I recall being told that you should never try to run more than 1 light on a timer at a time. Is there any truth to that? LMK. Thanks.

Thanks. I'm a newb trying to minimize the amount of money I spend on this first grow while still getting something worthwhile out of it.

id be kinda iffy running it from an extension cord only cuz they arent made for that...but i could just be overly worried about starting a fire or somehting(damn grandmother).

No, that's a good point to make. Could a heavy duty extension cord do the job?

you dont really need everything running off of 1 timer do you?, you dont want any circ fans or anything to stay on?

I have 2 cheap walmart timers that fit into my massive wacky powerstrip, but its all run through one long white extention cord underneath my carpeting...

That other tub is what will be a future mom/clone chamber, but right now its just cord storage.

Philo-Thats another question I need to read up on. LST & SCROG. Is there a good thread that gives the detail on doing it? looks like ya just drill holes in the edge of the pot & tie down.
So much to learn, I am exctied like a virgin. I figure though if I can manage my 40'x60' veggie garden. I should be able to set up something nice in the homestead. I hope.

I was planning on running the lights on one timer(or several if need be) which would be plugged into the powerstrip. I'll find a way to relocate my grow so I can plug it directly into the wall if need be.

BTW how much more will 6 x 23 watt CFLs running through veg usually bump the power bill up a month? I'm trying to make it as unnoticed as possible.

Quick question about the lighting fixture I bought today.

It has three screw in sites like yours does Red. It says "Use three 60-Watt Maximum Medium Based Bulbs." I asked the lady there(call me dumb, but I played stupid and made up a nice short backstory about re-doing my bathroom to sound legit) and she said it should work for CFL's no problem. My question to you, or any other people knowledgable in electrical stuff, will it work for 6 x 23 Watt CFL's? 6 x 42 Watt CFL's?

Second quesiton comes from the wiring. Its *obviously* not wired to just plug into the wall. I have an extra extension cord around here and I bought some electrical tape so is there a way to hook it up to an extension cord and just plug it into the wall? If so then could somebody tell me which wires(Black, White, and Ground) go where? I feel like such a nub, but I don't want to mess up the electricy protion for good reason.

ok i just did this a few weeks ago.... my fixtures work 8 bulbs off four outlets just fine....real easy to weire too

i used a cheap ext. cord...not one with a ground...but just make sure white to white and blkack to black...and it dont matter which end of the ext. cord...

damn.. hit back on accident so i couldnt add to it...but thats my setup...the first isd the wiring for the plugs...i used two 2 plug outlets...then trhe ends of both the light and the ext cord...i just used a screw one wire nut..then folded them over and taped it so it wouldnt slip out

it sounds hard but its really easy as long as the colors mat ch

I'm also running one of those light strip dealys, came from home depo or lowes. There are 4 sockets in it to begin with and then i screw 4 Y adapters into that to give me 8 total sockets. I ran it for a day with all 8 of my 42watt cfls and it was fine.

You can just plug it into the wall, i bought a "Husky"brand power tool 'power-cord' replacement...cord (haha sorry) but yea it was just a heavy duty grounded cord with white black and green unfinished leads. The light strip i bought though had all 3 coming out of the back, so it was easier to figgure out.

Check to see if you have ANY instructions at all that came with your strip if the wires are really tricky.

Thank you soooooo much darren19822000! I just wired everything up and it ran flawlessly. The output of 6 x 23 Watts is pretty intense. I can imagine how bright 6 x 42 watts would be... *evil grin* Hell LED's would rock for growing if they weren't such a pain in the ass to manipulate.

This grow will start right after I get back from the holidays. I'll be stationary and capable of tending to the babies 24/7. Until then its collection time.

Red you stated that one could use 6 x 23 watts through the entire grow, correct? How much of a difference in yield is possible by doubling the Wattage?

Thanks to all. <_< I'll be back for more info >_>

Stay stealthy!

What can I say, SuperZ - you've got the touch!!!! That WW is starting to look quite tasty!

Hey, I've been reading your contribution to the NY outdoor grow thread - looks like you did well there, also! I'd like to join you guys in next springs outdoor plantings. I live a bit to the right, and up from you and JJScorpio - but our climates are very similar, I might actually be a tad cooler where I live.

Off the subject - I noticed you talking about lower back issues - I'm recovering from back surgery (upper back) fusion. You hear a lot of fuss about the fusion surgery usually "not working" - I was very apprehensive about getting cut, but I'm personally glad I got it done, I feel 100% better! (not perfect, but it takes time, and I can live with the pain I have now).

...For whatever it's worth - I feel your pain, and hope you're feeling better... take LOTS of medication!!!! :joint:

I just dressed up my tub and got it running. I still am missing Activated Carbon, Two tubs of varying sizes for Carbon Scrubber, Tubing, Seeds to germinate, and a timer. I'll probably pick up some ferts sooner or later, but I'm going to get this thing on the road ASAP.

You guys may want to check the fans out at your local Wal Mart. My local Wal Mart is in the process of liquidating "High Velocity" 4 in fans. Metal caged. Made by Lakewood. They sold for $3.00. I was uber happy. They're louder than a computer fan, but for a $3.00 heavy duty mini-fan I can't pass it up. I bought two, but I should go back and buy a few more.

A quick question though. How long can soiled plant that's vegging go without water, without being in danger of death? I'm starting my grow now, assuming my bagseed's germ, and I assume I'll be away from my grow for 3 days as a good estimate. I was wondering if there were precautions I could take to water them up before I leave or something else. Please don't say Hydro because I can't do that right now. Also this is only hypothetical. If it's too bad I can make the two hour drive home to feed my babies if need be.

Also what is a good soil medium to sprout seeds in. I picked up the pro-mix stuff, but I just re-read that it isn't for seedlings. What's a cheap and viable source to sprout seedlings in?

Thanks.
