Hi MJPassion, I know I know lol. It is because of the banana thing. Which is putting a few bananas (the fruit) around the pots of germing seeds, the ethylene gas given off by the ripening banana apparently will cause there to be more females than males. Yes I know, I laughed too.

So I planted 40 Romulan seeds I had in separate rooms. One 20 had bananas the other did not. Banana room 18/20 female. Other room 11/20 females. Same temps, soils, etc. Kind of shocked me. I have done it a few more times when I needed more females and it seems to work.

So is it like reversing a plant with the banana? Or is it the sex is dictated by the environment? Or am I nuts? Big maybe on all of the above lol.

But I highly recommend sticking with Chimera's theory, the man is brilliant.

Maybe it is the Nourishing substances of the banana being a good fertilizer... Nature decides even with babies in their mothers' belly very late whether the child should be male or female, based on the circumstances she is living in ...thats why boys\ males hawe aswell nipples, boys dont need them, nature instals the just in case ( i mean thats what i heard, dont know if its true)

Ethylene is a plant hormone used for ripening fruit.
Apparently it'll make your ladyboys stay ladies too.
I hadn't tried that experiment.

The test is malarkey, i believe.

I wouldnt use the test to find girls... thats easy enough to do by sight.
But...
The test could tell you if your males are genetically true XY males versus confused hermaphrodite/intersex females.

I dont think the test is smoke n mirrors at all and genetic testing would tell you M F with a high confidence interval. Just dont think many people will pay $240 us to have a dozen starts sexed. Ime market doesnt place that high of a price on knowing sex early. Other than space required there is not much incremental cost to raise 12 plants than there is to raise one so most people will forgo the test.

MJ What is your process for sexing? How long on ave and how do you tell?

4-6 weeks from sow is when I generally start seeing sex but I start 12/12 from seed with regulars.

Every compost emits ethylene...so either you an use any other garbage to or banana has something in it thats makes it secial ....

I'm betting that the cards can be DNA imprinted by any leaf though.

@eskimo, bananas emit a huge amount of ethylene when they ripen then bacome over ripe. I believe it's the main component in the banana aroma.
