Real or Fake? (sexing seeds)

Guy claims to be able to tell the sex of a plant by the shape of its seed. A lot of comments are claiming they are having 100% success rate. This video has almost 500k views so I would assume someone here has seen it and tried and if it works I think I would of heard about it. So I'm guessing its bullshit but the guy makes a strong case

Well its not really the shape but the dimple on the bottom of the seed. I might give it a try regardless. Have about a 5 year old freebie pack of Sam's HazexSkunk#1 I could do.

Friend tryed this method with 17 seeds he sprouted,

he gets 12 females and 5 males from his pick so a method could work...

females seeds look like they have vulcano crater down there where seed is connected
with calyx,

method says that in this way you can easily spot hermaphrodites as they dont have
roundish seeds that properly roll on surface,you can spot hermas by elongated or
asimetric features..

male seeds dont have "vulcano crater" shaped hole... so with 3X magnifier this job is very easy...


This trick with seeds is very old... more than 30 years atleast,so its not weird people was a bit forgot on him...

Don't believe it for a second. I don't believe the seed carries the m/f set in stone trait. Fem seeds yes, standard seeds I don't think so. I believe environment has a lot to do with dictating how many seeds are male and how many are female. The banana theory, which I think has some merit, proves that. Just observation, for all I know maybe the guys on to something. But I doubt it.

It may work fir a few specific seed lots but over all the theory is BS...

This rumor has been around for a few decades as I recall reading about it in a book publushed in the 80s. I dont remember the title but think Mel and/or Ed touched the subject lightly.

I am from the 50-50 school of thought. (Out of 1000 seeds, half will be male, half female) If sexing by volcano is true, then it stands to reason that all feminized seeds would have a deep, perfect volcano.

SO, somebody go check their feminized seeds and report back please.

I've seen that picture many times but not sure i've ever seen anyone post a credible study which proves/disproves the theory. Would love to know one way or the other but haven't seen any proof.

the other method which intrigues me and i've read it is much more accurate (read 90% but have no idea if this is true) is to look how the seeds pop when germinated. Seeds that unfold out the side are supposed to be males and seeds that pop out the top are supposed to be females - and again the claim is for a very high success rate.

For the most part I'm of the opinion if any of this is true it would be common knowledge and no one would be talking about growing from seed, cut and flower to determine sex. And for the most part this is the process which is promoted to sex cannabis plants.

There are not that many secrets when it comes to growing plants at the level we do it, and info like that if true would never be able to be contained by the cannabis gurus so it all lessens the credibility of the claims in my eyes

I'm down for any method that gives you 9/10 chance of getting a female, just don't believe it exists.

I need to remember to try it as I got lots of seeds to play with ..maybe use some mexi seeds in the greenhouse....yeehaw...I don't think its true as that secret would of become common knowledge long ago atleast between serious growers..it sure would make things easier...

Thus far I've never seen a pattern with seed shape/size/color to the sex and like Robrites, stick with a general 50% rule for regular seeds. Just grabbed 10-15 random seeds I had sitting around, regulars and there's a 'dimple' on the end of each one so I'm not even sure what they are referring to.

Maybe I'll play with some things on my next round of seeds which is coming up shortly but I'm skeptical of this.
