For all that don't know, Devin has been on such "notable" songs as "Fuck you(Track 3)" on Chronic 2001, as well as that classic "Ni**a don't believe that song, that ni**as wrong. Gangstas don't live that long" song from Scarface(and many other 'Face songs. Good music.

Most rappers don't know about weed but know the general price range.When I say don't know about weed, I mean they don't know how to grow it or any of the steps involved in doing so. They do know about buds however. They will know by looking at it and smelling it if it's good or not and most would know what it's worth. Not all are retarded and not just the super famous (cypress and snoop) know about herbs. It's the little references that let me know. Anyone can mention a strain but mentioning "moving elbows" is something only a seasoned vet would know about.
A friend of mine is part of a rapper named Twista's (worlds fastest rapper) crew. Whenever they come to the West coast they always get in touch with me for their smoke. Twista can't get enough of the OG and Bubba and trust me money is no object. But what was strange to me was this. When me and my friend's smoke we pack what we call "boogers", booger sized bowls, and take one hit and snap the bowl. The first time we met was at the Forum a few years back and after they got what they wanted, we decided to smoke a little bit. I packed a bowl for Twista and was shocked when I saw that not only he didn't finish the bowl, he actually passed it on down the line to the other guys with him. But what was even funnier was when I packed a bowl for my partner and he snapped the bowl in 1 hit. The look on their faces was priceless! Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to clown on these guys. Just saying don't believe everything you hear. These guys were smoking on some of the finest, but they wouldn't be rapping about not being able to finish a bowl or what not....would you? Cool down to earth guys, really funny. But a tad bit too loud for me.

I think it's kind of rediculous that anyone could care so much about this subject. Like someone said in a post above, rappers also rap about murdering people and and what not, and that's right, not very many of them have. When a lot of rappers rap (besides mostly poetic, real stuff) they make theirselves out to be the shit. The best, therefore they need to rap about smoking the best herb. Sure, they don't smoke purple haze, but they include it in the rap because some will say it's the most potent blah blah blah. So, you see what I'm saying.

If I really wanted to get some deep point across about my life or my feelings or something, I would do it by taking a step back into reality in the raps, but I like what I do.
But to the guy that said he doesn't like rap because he pays more attention to the instrumental part of music... I'd have to disagree. More and more rap beats nowadays you'll hear that are just as musically complex as any other type of music, and are 100% original. Any emcee that also makes his own beats will a lot of the times tell you they take more pride in their beats than their words.

Heres what i dont get. You have freedom of speech, you have a big fanbase, your a big rapper, you get payed alot.... But they still chose to rap about nothing... i doubt 50 cent smokes purple haze ever. Or even believes that what hes smoking is purple haze.
50cent is just a tool using a phrase popularized by jimi hendrix that might have been talking about some name of acid, or some legendary strain of weed ( im not sure of the truth on this one).
edit. Alot of mainstream rap is just a bunch of bullshit lyrics thrown in with some good beats. Then a repetative punchline. It makes money. And the artists who make this music are tools. Lil john contributes to this BS but at least he can make the beats too!

I'd say most rappers, just like most people, don't know much about weed. Bottom line like a lot of people have already said, they're out to make money. Would say a lot of rappers just toss some strain name around to make it sound like they're getting some dank weed in the eyes of the majority of people. However, also gotta consider some rappers (snoop for instance) are potheads just like us and if any of us had the money and fame, you already know we'd be hunting down the best bud we could get our hands on. I dont have a problem with it and what place are you to have an attitde as to what someone can say weather it be on a rap song or a country song, or someone talking, Hell the firs mention of ECSD was from The Game, I dont think the breeders or growers mind it's free publisity, and allot of it. If you dont like rap your either listening to the wrong people or style. Weed has allways been a part of hip-hop music throught the years(even before '98) and will forever be involved in it, I love hearing about the new upcoming strains mixed in with my "nigga beatz". Yeah rappers just use 'dro' and 'purps' because thats the common slang word for that urban group of people. i chill with a black dude and he only says 'purps' when the weeds got some purple in it and yeh half the rappers probably dont know what exactly they're smoking,they probably dont care. They probably get offered some dank for 4 bills a zip or something and buy it.
