Radioshack Microscope

See, after a couple go-arounds with the Radio Shack scopes I got tired of replacing them...I don't think the little bulbs last for very long. $8-10 isn't a lot of money, but who'd pay $20 or $30 for these things? That's what you're paying when you have to keep replacing 'em.

I just ordered a 30X jeweler's loupe on eBay...$7.50 plus s/h, and it will never die.

Anyway, I pull a small leaf with plenty of trichomes on it and lay it on my desk to look at it. I think one leaf would be representative enough of the maturity of the plant, wouldn't it?
right on i like a white peice of paper to lay leaf tips on for inspection, trics show up much better and lit better then on a tabel top. try it next inspection time :)

for inspection of preflowers i like to use my 10x jewelers eye for my rock hounding inspection he he. cheap any rock and mineral shop carrys them about 6$ i also use the 10x for my digi cam upclose pics :)

Well, I would guess if the cola/bud the leaf you check was receiving the same amount of light as the rest of the plant then it would be indicative of the whole plant. Would definatly be close at least, but I wouldn't begin to judge maturity of lower budsites using a leaf from a top cola. Not that it matters much though as the lower sites are usually used for bubble hash/BHO/ISO Oil ETC.
when i inspect trics for maturity after cuting a tip of tric covered leaf from top mid bottom of nug i inspect them on white paper, i inspect every top bud in the grow. yes some tops will be farther along then others. this would depend on the placement to lighting, generally speaking like in my cab nugs directly under my 400w would be say 50% cloudy 30% clear 10-20% amber. tops to the outside of the lighting say maybe 50-50 cloudy clear and the bottoms usally could allways go another wk. but when time and space is of concern i cut the whole plant as is if the tops are ready bottoms arent far behind. also bottom nugs dry faster then the bigger tops so i can be a smoken on them while everything else is dry/curing :)

i just put the bud in the hole of mine, it holds it in place then you can zoom perfectly and it doesn't even move.

I undestand wanting to keep it in place, but do you really have to put it in your hole? :yoinks: jk

my buddy has one of these but i like my 30 x jewelers loupe. u can see everything without even touching the plant or snipping it off. i also got one of these on ebay for liek 7 bux with shipping. just a alternative to the radio shack scope .

well my radio shack micro scope was a pile of crap had glue on the lens wich i tred to remove with achoul wich dont try all i can see tru it now is clody trichs yeah the lens is platic not glass so cant not be cleaned next time i will go by a real mircoschope not some kids play toy

I have one, and their nice, but it seems a jewelers loop would be soooo much easier.

You have to adjust two dials on the radio shack microscope if I can remember right.....haven't fooled around with mine for a while

the microscope is damn hard to use on a ladder

I prefer the loupe never being satisfied with the quick glimpse I get with the microscope. The new microscope is lit with a light emitting diode and the 3 indents would give a better feel for the puny knobs on my old one. :chin:

i also have 1 of the plastic rs scopes. & even tho i can see better w/ it than the naked eye, its been frustratin to use. been clippin a tiny sample & viewin it on white paper, frickin everythin is hazy! guess i need to look into gettin a loupe... just curious about the magnification. if what im usin now is 100x is the 30x loupe comparable?

to look at trichomes just cut a pistil off of a bud or a tiny leaflet will work.... use a piece of white paper as the background, shoudnt be to hard to focus doing it this way.
