I agree the complaint should be taken to the advertiser, it is thier logo not icmags . They may even appreciate the feedback from thier target demographic. And to be honest I had not even noticed it was there till it was pointed out . I expect adds to be ignorant so barely even pay them attention. And yes it is one of those things that does poke some people in the eye.

i appreciate your response pendleton, but in my defense, the OP was a very calm and friendly note to the admins, and the responses are confrontational.

these are classic microaggressions that trigger very real emotional responses.

i believe it is in the best interest of ICMAG to project a progressive image since it is a hub for a political movement regarding civil rights.

it strikes me as hypocritical to fight for your right to smoke ganja while simultaneously disregarding systemic oppression of other marginalized groups.

There was a story on microagressions on NPR the other day. The minority comments that they played at the end where interesting. One gentleman said folks need to get a thicker skin or they won't be able to cope with anything in life. He was a minority. I agree 100%. Racism is wrong. So is creating racial situations out of nothing.

so if one of there characters is white had a pair of short work shorts a blue singlet and thongs as foot wear or flip fops if thats what you call them.... would this be racist towards australians?

then the exact same question but the character is black with the same outfit... would this be racist towards australians?

this has been really fun but i'm not going to educate all of ICMAG on race politics today.

at the very least i've got a nice list of people whose opinions i no longer respect and whose businesses i will no longer patronize.

I'm sure your well founded arguments and tactful class have converted many to your way of thinking. Keep up the good work.

The definition make them acceptable on a individualistic basis only.

Everyone learning to have thick skin is asking society as a whole to lower the bar, once again it is acceptable on an individualistic basis only.

If the MJ businesses want to be treated with legitimacy and follow the "big boys" then being PC is very important, regardless of personal take.

I have thick skin but I never offend people unless I know they can can take it and dish it out.

Some people appreciate this type of banter (friendly "ribbing") some do not, being able to use them in the right situations is the key.

There is no reason no to be able to modulate between states to remain appropriate.

In person with a small group of good friends, appropriate, online in a worldwide community, not so much.

Yes, we got your message Heady and admins disagreed with you. The only thing the image is trying to do is to relate rastas with cannabis seeds (as well as a few other things).

Now it's those few other things that one could object to (but you didn't), and that is associating Rastas with lots of money (gold - Babylon's treasure), as well as what looks like an alcoholic drink (coconut with an umbrella). Neither of those would attract a TRUE Rastafarian.

But how many of those Rastas are true to their religion? Bob Marley's family is soon launching the "Marley Natural" brand of cannabis (yes, real cannabis like Marley used to smoke). I'm sure they're hoping to strike it big with that.

Indeed, Rastas all over the Caribbean are looking forward to legalization so they can sell weed more openly. You can read my article about this in the new IC7 magazine coming soon!

And I've just had a bad scene with a wannabe rasta canna business owner, who is now all about bling and selling alcohol and making money. And yes, he says he's a rasta (he's black), has long dreads. Not my cup of tea, so we ended our biz relationship. Perhaps people like him are the ones you should be taking issue with (as I did to his face).

So for me that representation of a Rasta is more true than most Rastas want to admit. Once a "rasta" makes it big they end up looking and acting like a gang member, imo.

In the end, the characterization is no worse than any characterization of a stoner that you might see on any cannabis site. Might not apply to everyone, but that's what a "characterization" is.

And finally, if you don't want to buy seeds from that company, I'm sure they'll understand.

Carlin was dead on with his comments about race (Richard Pryor was the King)

Yes, ppl need to lighten up, big time!

Sure racism is alive and well, but turning everything into a race issue isn't going to solve the problem.

Wtf are you talking about?

Seriously?

That's the most ignorant statement I've read on ic in a long time. Sad to know one of the so called "heads" of this site has such a narrow minded view of a group of folks.

Lots of tumblr social justice talk that's difficult to take seriously - microaggressions, overuse of the term privilege...*sigh*. Arguing with a dogmatic ideology is no fun.

That's exactly what perpetuates racial stereotypes, friends and family and business associates all sharing their racism with each other and teaching their children to be racist too.

That is where attention needs to be focused, esp. on family and religions brainwashing their kids and passing on their bigotry and hatreds.

This is what divides society. And it's not just on lines of race. It's also now about "class" as our society separates the haves and have nots, just as clearly as the SS decided who would live or die on the train platforms during WWII.

And I only bring up the nasty Nazis because that is the final solution that comes about when racism is not nipped in the bud.

Yes, seriously, when you've seen it happen right in front of you. I've seen more WANNA BE rastas than true ones in my life. And they seem to want to CAPITALIZE on that pretense in some way.

Hey, I'm against all established religions, so take it as it is.

So when are you going to leave this site (as you threatened us), since you're making such a fuss over something that has NOTHING to do with ICMag, you really are on thin ground here.

And you've already had your say, are you now just going to continue to insult ppl that disagree with you?

Perhaps you should read the forum guidelines again.

and if you plan on playing the RACE CARD again on this site, you might as well find another home.

YEAH!!!! And, I want Herbie's Head Shop to take down that horribly racist caricature of the stoned white boy. I am white and I am tired of all the racism pointed at white people.

On behalf of white people all over the world, I DEMAND that all pictures of white people that don't look just like ME have to be TAKEN DOWN IMMEDIATELY.

I DEMAND IT.

WHITE PEOPLE UNITE AGAINST RACISM IN CARICATURISATION.

ROTFLMAO....

I think a mod better close this one. I can see this getting out of hand. LMAO

I wouldn't miss seeing the Herbies head shop logo showing what looks like a fifteen year old just discovering he shit his pants.
