why do these r/o units waste water? that sucks. and where does the waste water line go to? another rez? out of the house? if these q's have been answered then could you kindly point me in the right direction. thx

The waste water goes down the drain it carries off some of the impurities, the ro units are not the same the higher qaulity ones last longer/less waste water, I had an ebay special and had to buy a new ro filter every 6 months because I used it alot (125gpd devoneb unit) I switched out the filters with a set from a crystal clear unit and its still going great and has been over 6 months

dbcooper - How often were you using your devoneb off of eBay , was it for plants or just drinking water - I ask because I think I might have the same RO filter as you cause I got mine off of eBay too :

Although I couldn't find if it was 125gpd or not , one of the filters says .50 gpm , which i believe is supposed to be gallons per minute which comes out to something like 720gpd and doesn't really seem realistic for a 120-140 dollar RO system off of ebay ... do i have the same one as you ??

The plan is to put about 20 plants into flower and use the RO almost exclusively for them so if you could give me some type of insight into how many gallons , roughly, it was before your filters shit the bed on you or any other little details that would be great.

thanks

My R/O goes to a nearly perfect 6.2-6.4 PH from a tapwater PH of about 8.My dehumid water which normally reads a few PPM cleaner than my R/O water is normally 5.5-6.0 for some reason.Maybe the copper coils..I keep it clean.

regardless of the ph of the ro water, it has no buffers in it at all, so what ever you toss in there will instantly change the ph.

dude asking about the holding tank. no, if you get a 55 gallon drum and put a float valve on it, you do not need the 2 or 3 gallon pressure tank. all the pressure tank does is store a few gallons for you for water on demand.

about the "ebay specials" : i have 3 units, all purchased on ebay. i run a bunch of systems and use a bunch of water, my very first unit, which also supplied us with all our drinking water too, started out with like 4-5 ppms. after a few months it went to like 15 or so ppms, now, after like 2 years, it's at 30 ppms, never changed a single filter on it.

hope it helps someone.

Dreamscape- looks the same I had a 125gpd and ordered replacement filters but he only had 100's listed he still sells the 125's tho so who knows my unit was at a different place as well as I am at now and the water might not be as bad here. I was using it just dor plants too, it seemed to work well but the performance dropped fast, someone else had a thread comparing the ro units life span, some are made to last longer. My ph was usually 7.1 going in it and 5.8-6.0 coming out . It was worth it for the money in my opinion. LOL I don't have enough posts to read my pm's lol stopped posting for awhile when og went down.

Absolutely, even with 1 tbls of dolomite lime per gallon soil you still need to add calmag to R/O water. How much depends on how your plants are reacting,I use 5ml. per gal every other watering.I've also found when I just use straight R/O water,it yellows my plants quite often. When I use nutes every time the plants don't become overferted and look much healthier.Instead of feeding every other watering and experiencing this I'm feeding lightly every watering 450PPM Tiger bloom and getting much better results in flower

once the float valve shuts off the ro water to the drum, does the waste water keep pumping? how did you hook up the waste line to a drain line in your house?
