Hi @dubi, I thought I'd start a thread rather than PM as maybe others have questions?

I was reading the THH thread and read that you have the Outback Haze. I also noticed that someone has listed an Outback Haze cross in their top 5 Ace strains. I can't find them on your site, even in the R&D section. Are you planning on releasing crosses of this anytime soon?

You also said that you had a recent trip to Thailand, and found some choc Thai strains. Can you tell us anything more about your trip and would you care to share any photos?

Hi @Chi13 sorry for my delay in the reply. I’m married to a woman from this part of the world, so I’ve been extensively traveling through Southeast Asia for the past 15 years, spending 1-2 months each year visiting family and exploring the region. This is my favorite part of the world: its cultures, people, landscapes, and ancient cannabis traditions. I’ve visited every country in ASEAN, some multiple times, to discover different regions. Some countries are large or consist of hundreds of islands, so it takes a lot of time to fully explore their territory.

I’ve been collecting landraces during my solo trips in the area, especially over the past 10 years. However, since cannabis is extremely punishable in most SE Asia countries, I’ll only go into detail about my legal experiences in Thailand over the last two years.

As you know, cannabis was legalized in Thailand last year for recreational use, and many stores selling cannabis can now be found, especially in cities and tourist areas. I crossed the border from the Cambodian jungles into Trat province in Thailand and took a boat from the coast to reach the islands. I enjoyed some beach holidays in Koh Chang, Koh Mak, and Koh Kood, also exploring the local cannabis culture.

I checked into a nice hotel in Koh Chang with perfect views from my terrace

and quickly located the island’s few cannabis stores on my phone. It was off-season, so the islands were pleasantly quiet. Most of the cannabis shops were within walking distance, so I decided to head out, grab something to eat, and buy my first legal weed in Southeast Asia.

After a good meal and a beer, I started walking along the main road to visit the shops on my first day. Unfortunately, most shops only sold American-Dutch poly hybrids, with just a few occasionally offering one or two local Thai variants. I had zero interest in the hybrids, so the following days, I rented a motorbike and visited every shop on the island in search of the local strains.

I managed to find 2 Thai types at 7th Heaven, one in compressed in brick and the other were not compressed flowers called Red Thai. Some pics of the Red Thai, sorry didn't take pics of the brick.

It was an amazing experience to enjoy my first legal Thai joint while taking in the stunning views from the terrace 🥰. The Red Thai strain was incredibly potent, mind-blowing, and long-lasting, with intense cerebral sativa effects. Though the smoke wasn’t entirely clean and felt a bit dirty, it was still an interesting sample. After carefully inspecting all the buds and discarding unripe seeds, I ended up with around 25 healthy seeds.

The brick weed was decent and had similar psychoactive effects, mix of cerebral and stony effects, but being compressed, it contained a lot of broken leaf, seed and stems, making the smoke harsh and less clean compared to uncompressed flowers. The brick general wasn’t a particularly interesting batch, and only found one viable seed, the Red Thai was more interesting.

Koh Chang is relatively big and quite hilly for my motorbike driving skills. After enjoyed a few nights her and do some island hoping to Ko Wai and Koh Khlum, i went south to the next island: Koh Mak.
This one is much more smaller, flat and with the most beautul beaches among Trat islands, a pleasure to discover the island by motorbike.

Since it was the rainy season, most resorts and hotels were closed, and I had all the beaches to myself. I only found one cannabis shop open on the entire island, but unfortunately, the local rastas were only selling Farang (Western) weed. Disappointing.

I booked a hut at a small hotel right on the beach for less than 30 € per night. It was just me and another guest, a young German man who had arrived on the island and decided to stay for a few months. I can’t blame him, Koh Mak is a peaceful tropical paradise, the kind of place one could easily choose to retire.

The German guy had some lanky Thai flowers that he was happy to sell me. They weren’t very potent but had an amazingly clear and uplifting high, with a lovely, ceilingless effect. He didn’t have much to spare, so I only got a small amount and found six viable seeds in the batch.

After spending three nights on Koh Mak and falling in love with the place, I moved on to Koh Kood. Similar to Koh Chang, it’s quite hilly and has beautiful waterfalls, but with far fewer tourists.

There were a few cannabis shops on the island, so I drove around to explore and search for Thai weed and seeds. After visiting all the shops, I only managed to find one batch of Thai weed—most were exclusively selling Farang genetics.

The flowers were decent, uncompressed, with heavily foxtailed tops. However, the high wasn’t particularly memorable, and I didn’t find any seeds in the batch.

The rest of the days were rainy, so I enjoyed my final days in Thailand peacefully smoking all the sativas I had collected during the trip, watching the hours pass from the hotel beach, and reflecting on everything as my vacation came to an end.

To be continued in a while with this year’s trip, which was longer and much more fruitful in terms of landrace seed collecting…

This year’s trip to Southeast Asia was special because it was the first time my elderly mother joined us. She finally got to meet my wife’s family, and afterward, we followed a well-planned itinerary of about 40 days through four countries in the region, focusing mainly on beaches and temples, two things I really wanted my mother to experience from this part of the world.

Over a few weeks, we explored much of the southern west coast of Thailand along the Andaman Sea. We started in Phuket, probably the most popular beach destination in Thailand and the last place I’d go on a solo trip, but it was convenient for a family trip with an 8-year-old. Phuket was as expected: a very touristy beach spot that reminded me of many Mediterranean coastal destinations very close from my home town.

The upside is that, being such a touristy place, Phuket has plenty of cannabis shops per square meter. Our hotel was located in Kamala Beach area, and I think there were about ten shops within walking distance. I visited all of them, but they only offered flowers grown in Thailand from Western genetics.

Finally I arrive at Bracey Budz, where I find two very friendly Brits (though I can’t understand a word as they were watching street fights on tv speaking with strong slang). The big brit guy behind the counter did have a huge brick of Thai weed (close to 1 kg he proudly showed to me) at a quite good price: 200 baht for 10 grams. I rolled a big joint while discussing with him the origins of this Thai, he totaly assured while increasing dezibels that was a Southern Thai landrace.

I rolled a big joint while i was in the room with 2 of them, made me smile when i started to see some ripe seeds. I didn't smoke anything for 4 days, so my tolerance was a bit low, but this Thai totally blew my mind with overpwering excitement, tachycardia and paranoia. I had soon to go out the smoking room, leave the brits and take some fresh air and a couple of beers to calm myself, then walked back to the hotel. I didn't had any other thing to smoke and its effects were so electric that later at night i had problems to sleep.

I came back again to Bracey budz to buy a couple packs more and make sure i have a decent amount of seed to bring back.

Here are the smoking notes i collected for weeks about this type, i like to call her: Bracey Budz Thai aka Southern Dark-Eyed Electric Lady → A tightly pressed brick of Thai cannabis, yellow-green color, containing plenty of leaf, broken seeds and stems. Requires careful job to prepare cleanest joint possible.

  • Aroma: Woody and milk chocolate notes, mint and fresh, sour lemony.
  • Flavor: Mainly woody and chocolatey, with bittersweet floral and minty touches.
  • Potency: Strong and long-lasting, delivering over 2–3 hours of intense effects (with more hours of exciting residual effects. Consistently powerful at any moment regardless of tolerance.
  • Effects: A stimulating drug like effect that takes you sky-high with very high vibrations. The effect is electric (goosebumps), clean, highly energetic, alert, crazy and nervous (could be even irritating). Thoughts race uncontrollably and accelerated with zero sedation or psychological warmth, although you might find yourself pacing or dancing around the room if you're in a good mood and setting. Senses (hearing and vision) become more sensitive and expanded.

Perfect for the start of the day in the morning, and medicinally effective against migraines or headaches. If you smoke it exclusively all day, you’ll go to bed with your nerves on edge.

Found 30 beautiful seeds very dark black (hence the name) and unspotted viable seeds from the 3 bricks of this really nice Southern Eletric Thai.

We were not impressed with Phuket, so after 3 nights we left the hotel in Kamala with the family under heavy rain We arrived at Tiensien Pier to catch the boat to Koh Yao Yai. Before the pier, i saw there was a small cannabis shop with signage entirely in Thai and a clear working-class vibe. The lady in charge of the shop offers me a couple of Thai options, which I obviously buy. They’re very cheap for 200 baht I got a good bag of loose flowers and another in brick form. She almost doesn't speak english, but i discuss with her about their origins and confirms these are types grown in the Southern part of the country.

Tiensien Pier Flowers → Medium to large, brownish buds with very rigid, pear-shaped calyxes of medium size (classic shape on many Thai landraces). The flowers are well-matured and even overly cured, with little resin.

Enveloping dark, woody, and strong (undeniably) chocolate scent, although without overall intensity and fresh floral notes of previous Thai from Bracey Budz. Even compared to Syndicate's Thai (more info about her in next chapters). Makes me enthusiastically feel that I've found an example of the mythical Chocolate Thai :)

The taste is mediocre and a bit tiresome to smoke: grassy, chocolate, woody, slightly sour and floral that the flower’s aroma doesn’t carry.

Medium-low potency. The effect starts cerebral (relieves headaches), feel-good, and psychologically warm, with no excitement or psychedelia. It connects well with the outwards. It develops into a relaxing, laid-back vibe (more mental than physical) that helps ease and balance out the more stimulating highs of earlier strains like Bracey Budz Thai. Found 20 mature seeds.

Tiensien Pier Brick → Greenish brick that consists mostly of compacted leaves and stems. It has almost no flower, and only a couple of immature seeds emerge. unfortunately unsmokable, discarded. No seeds found.
