Powdery Mildew - I believe it's systemic and doesn't ever leave the plant. Treatments usually alter the PH of the plant to create an unstable environment for the mildew to grow. Once the treatment wears off the mildew usually pops right back up.
Everyone has their own special method, but they all seem to work the same. Some dudes I know go as cheap as spraying milk on them to get the same effect. (Then I'd call the Ice Cream 'Milkshake')
PM is not systemic. It is a fungal infection, it requires the use of a fungicide, which most people do not use. for example Milk, is not a fungicide. It will not kill the PM. I don't even think it does anything. Wettable sulfur, Sovran etc., destroy PM
