Purple Lumatek Digital Ballasts

I just wanna say that the Lumatek website has to be one of the worst around. There is pretty much no info on that site - just the marketing stuff. On the products page, it says they have only 250, 400, and 600W models. Doesn't even mention the 750's never mind the new 1000's (I have a bunch). And instead of emailing answers re bulbs to people have they ever heard of a FAQ page?!!!! I've read so many pages on these issues on different sites. Just list which bulbs work with which ballasts. Also, list the RF issues with each ballast.

Hell, maybe getting the 1,000W to market was rocket science as it took so long, but surely putting up a FAQ page isn't.

I have a purple 240v Lumatek 1000w

IT interferes with AM radio, and possibly comcast cable/internet lines. this is not yet resolved, but comcast has been repetedly giving me shit since I installed this ballast.

I agree totally! what is their problem? We give them hundreds and in some cases thousands of dollars for their equiptment and they cant even give us a faq page?wtf? Or even a page with the updated versions? Thats kinda shady, i dont got time right now to write them a letter, if anyone feels the urge, be my guest! georgewarner wink wink your pretty good at that!

What are they saying to you? Im starting to have second thoughts on these new models after hearing all of these statement on this thread. I dont think ive heard one good post on the purple lumateks. Any UK people out their having the same problems with your aqua/turquoise lumateks?

BG hydro now includes the Hydrofarm adapter, I pretty sure free of charge. They also have the purple Lumatek's. I'm shopping around and noticed today, still can't decide between mag. or digi though. :bashhead:

here is some pics of my blue 240's I got from md hydro in december. I don't know if they are third or fourth generation but they are definitely under 10 lbs while the purple 120v is at least 20 lbs. I am really happy with the performance of these ballasts I just don't understand why I paid twice as much for my purple to get twice the weight, twice the size, and twice the heat. When I got home from the hydro store and put it next to a blue one I thought I had just bought the old model and the blue ones must be the newer version.

Forgot to mention the hydro guy said hortilux didn't work well on the 600 and sold me a solar max bulb for 100 bucks, later on I heard the exact opposite. I got GE lucalox's for 45 each and free shipping for my blue ones and later found that was actually the recomended bulb. Just one more reason I like the blue ones better.

Wow thats crazy, im gonna wait for a few more bad reviews then write a letter to darryl or whoever at lumatek and ask why they advertise these purples to be lighter than the blues when they arent. I will also put together an extensive list of all ofthe complaints i read and compile it and include it in my letter, because this is bullshit! Never saw it coming. I thought since they finally figured out to fix the r/f issue that it would be smooth sailing for future generations since they said that they got the kinks worked out and such.

well Smurfin 'Herb i just emailed lumatek about the website situation lol... see what they say ..i added the thing about the "faq page" and a little bit more info ,like usable bulbs ,noise ,heat ,running costs, weight etc

I emailed 'em too right after I posted - though mine was probably much briefer as I didn't have much time. Well the more they get the better. Haven't heard back yet. ........ Now if I can get House and Garden to get their shit together and have them stop printing contradictory things - air/no air, don't use coco nutes in coco, use topbooster in 2nd wk, no 4th wk, no wait 5th wk! etc

as promised, here are the pics and weight of the ballast. In real life it's much more purple , purple like a metallic Barny, the cam just does a terrible job at the color, don't know why. here you are.

Well clowntown says, in the hydrohut original thread, that bghydro.com has them in 120 and 240v, and i just called today to confirm this. So why couldnt you just have one shipped to the UK and plug it in? You guys do run on 240v over there, right?

UK runs on 50hz, US runs on 60hz; so right voltage, but wrong hertz.

I piked up my purple 600 watt lumatek ballast today for $210 local

I also got a new hydrofarm daystar AC hood w/ lampcord and socket and lens for $144

..and the hortilux bulb was $96

Ill report back w/ any issues if I have any...I'm pretty stoked right now tho :headbange

I cant see the weight on the one in the pic posted up above, but this weighs in right at 12 pounds

only thing I'm a bit concerned about is that the "grow store guy" told me that I "might" have to replace my bulb every 4 to 6 months, due to the way that the ballast maximizes the bulbs output. ....anyone have any experience with that????

I hope I don't have to buy a new $100+ dollar bulb ever 4 or 6 months.....or is he just covering his ass on possibilities????

...If the bulb issue is true, is there a certain bulb that "lumatek" or "you guys" recommend that would perform better than a hortilux w/ this ballast?

anyway I'm still stoked... here's a cpl. pics of the new gear:

I've been running the same strain with the same nute program since I bought my Lumi's over a year ago and can't say enough good things about the GE Lucolux bulbs in them. Go to horticulturesource.com and you can get a bulb for $65. I noticed a drop off in yield and bud formation after about 7+ months. I know of people who ran tests using light meters saying bulbs last longer in the electronic ballasts but I didn't see it. I will now replace bulbs after every 3 cycles.

I used the old Daystar AC hoods but the new one's with the cord running through the top and the hinged hood rock! Great hood for a 600.
