Protection for Me and my Mama's

I have recently been looking into products that will help protect Me, my privacy, and my Aero Setup. I am aware that many people think the products I am about to list are unnecessary. You can call me overcautious or paranoid but please keep the discussion in this thread about how these products work and/or don't work.

Block IR
C3 Anti Detection Mylar Foil
Mylar Lightite ADF Reflective Sheeting
PolyShield

The C3 Anti Detection Mylar Foil is no longer sold in the US. I believe it was also originally developed by our government.

they catch you by your venting with ir...i believe those products are bs.....if you have 300 degree air shooting out your attic than they know that its about 200 degrees to hot compared to the other attic vents on your block....venting is what gets people popped and there mouths

I have heard that they often look for the air your venting. On that note, I have also heard that if you are venting the air directly outside then they don't need a warrant to use it as evidence to obtain a search warrant for your property. They can also use it as evidence in court because it falls under some "waste air" technicality bullshit, which basically sidesteps our 4th amendment right.

But for truths sake what is the effectiveness of these products claims to mask your actual grow area to thermal imaging?

brainthor- are you saying that these products are bullshit because:
A. You don't believe they use thermal imaging/IR to locate the actual grow section of a house but rather the air being exhausted from the grow section.
B. Thermal imaging/IR can see right through it. They simply don't do what they claim to do.

well my friend what im saying is unless they stop heat (which i doubt they do) heat can be read by ir...i think they are a scam and that is just my opinion and i have not used them... it reminds me of the dumbo elephant story

brainthor- Does IR read surface temperatures only or does it read thermal radiation. I could understand if these insulate very well and prevent a large amount of the heat from escaping anywhere besides your designated exhaust. This would prevent unwanted heat from coming in contact with the walls and ceiling, similar to blocking off air conditioned rooms in the summer from non-air conditioned rooms with plastic material. Some plastics help retain temperature very well. So if IR/thermal imaging functions by reading surface temperatures then this product would make sense. Preventing the unwanted escape of heat from contacting ceilings and walls would effectively prevent the surface temperatures from getting hotter than normal. But I don't know if this is how IR/thermal imagers work.

On the other hand, if IR/thermal imagers work by reading thermal radiation then this would make a little more sense. I could see a product reflecting, deflecting, or just making thermal radiation. The reason I find this conceivable if because certain metal do prevent certain types of radiation from penetrating, i.e. Lead

I have also heard that IR/thermal imaging cannot penetrate glass, I found this statement surprising simply because light penetrates glass very easily.

I am also curious as to why they no longer sell the C3 Anti Detection Mylar Foil in the US anymore. That definitely catches my attention. It was supposedly developed by the US government as well.

Does anyone have a understanding on this topic.

If you are that paranoid, vent into the sewer. Pull the toilet up and vent in there. There are FAQS on OG about how to do this properly.

How large of a grow are we talking? Because if its a few lights, no biggie. If we are talking 15-20k+ then there alot of options if you got the $$$

CT- I commend you for bringing this topic to light. Most people will tell you that the products you listed are unnecessary or a waste of money. The truth is you are protecting your freedom- what is that worth to you?

I've been using polyshield for 2 years now, and I will continue to use it until something better comes out. I used to line all my walls with panda paper (black facing the wall, white facing the grow area) but now it has been replaced with polyshield.

For all of those people that say it is a rip-off..... Do any of you have access to a thermal scanner to prove what you say? I do.... A friend of mine works at the local fire station and they have high-tech thermal/IR scanners to see if there are any people stuck in a burning building, or to locate the source of a fire. It is a very expensive and really cool toy to play with :joint:

Just for fun I scanned my operation with the thermal scanner and no signature showed up on the screen. It just looked like a blank wall, no heat signatures at all. Then I took down one strip of polyshield and re-scanned the room. Sure enough, the section of wall no longer lined with polyshield was like an open window for the scanner. Not only could I make out the lights and much of the equipment in the room, but I could also see a very faint outline of large MJ fan leaves :noway:

Just for the giggles we decided to drive through some neighborhoods and see what we could see inside of random peoples houses (not something I'd normally do, but I thought I'd do it in the name of science.) Needless to say I was able to locate 2 definite grow operations in about an hour. That is scary!!!! I have no official training on how to use the device and I was able to find two good size grow ops in one hour. Imagine what law enforcement could do with the same device... Even if they need a warrant to use it on your house, you know the police have ways around such things. If I were a cop looking to get a promotion I'd drive all around town with the thermal scanner and make notes as to which houses have grow ops then start investigations from there.

What if your neighbors house burned down and the fire fighters using their thermal scanners accidentally stumbled upon your grow op and showed it to one of the law enforcement officers on the scene? They might not have enough to get a warrant but you can bet they'd be on your doorstep asking some questions....

Moral of the story- Polyshield DOES work, and it works well. It better at around ~$200 a roll. Basically, the question to ask yourself is whether or not spending $200 on a roll of polyshield is worth the peace of mind you get from it. I think so. Seriously, for all of us out there that spend over $3-5K a year on nutes, lights, medium, pots, fans, filters, etc. what is another few hundred dollars to "cloak" our operations from law enforcement?

I have to disagree with you. If anything, by endorsing such paranoia and fear of state, it only demonstrates how much of a problem we've let our government become. I believe in personal rights, and I don't believe the government has ANYTHING to say about what I put into my body or grow at MY home, ESPECIALLY a gift from the ****ing EARTH; how the HELL do you tell mother nature she's wrong. For that matter, how do you tell a person they're wrong, y'know -- being that 'good' and 'evil' are only concepts of the people -- not fact -- and often do they differ to those of our neighbors

The state, I call it, where all are poison-drinkers, the good and the bad: the state, where all lose themselves, the good and the bad: the state, where the slow suicide of all--is called "life."

fight for your rights people! do not let the state's opinion hold dominion over your own! the government is not God, although they would fain persuade you otherwise!

I wrote this for a reason. The purpose of this thread, which was very clearly stated, is to discuss IR/Thermal imaging masking products and there effectiveness. NOT to discuss personal beliefs and philosophies.

Texasluv- You have really tested polyshield with a thermal imager? Do you have a understanding of how polyshield works?

When you did the experiment and put polyshield in front of your grow, did you allow any time for the polyshield to sit there and "settle in" so to speak? The reason I ask is because I have little understanding of how IR/Thermal Imaging works. But I have heard that some of these products work well for a short period but are useless after they sit long enough to absorb the energy/heat.

Hey, guy with two posts, Get that Shill out of here.
Tell ya what, if you can post a video of you doing this again, I'll buy it. Should be easy, you could film what you described at your grow, and then take us on a virtual peeping Tom tour to these other two grows. Do this, and I'll post a video of someone eating their hat.

A properly designed growroom will eliminate the need for these products, if one is concerned about the law violating your fourth amendment rights against unlawful search and seizures.
HuffAndPuff.

What they can see is a temperature differential.
Most people don't heat their homes as high as a grow room is. If a home is sitting at 72 and the grow room is at 80...it stands out from the other rooms. If the gr is in the basement and heating up the cement floor...the entire foundation gets warmer too.
Sure, if you get it right, you can insulate or use reflective materials on the walls to reduce heat transfer to the wall etc...but the best bet is to maintain an air space. Think of a cabinet within a room. It won't matter if it's a million degrees in that cab...as long as the room itself is at 72 just like the rest of the house...infared won't see it from the other side of the wall.

All you have to do is isolate the heat from transferring into the exterior walls, foundation, or roof. Is throwing up some mylar on that wall going to do it? Not really. The 80* air from the room goes around the mylar ;)

or place your space near what that naturally has heat...many ways to beat the heat so to speak...but venting if and how is the trick to that but seriously anything under 2000 watts is easy to hide...peace

I was thinking of burying a 40 foot shipping container, as I can get them for less than $2000.00 shipped to my yard.

Would this be a good way to combat this problem?

The short answer is no.

Why not, if it's buried about with 5 feet of dirt on top and the hot air is vented into the cattle barn, AND I only grow during the winter?

Need more than just a no to convince me.
