Thanks guys, if one is afraid of failure, he's not DIY'ing hard enough :D

Since the UV-C test is about the plants resistance towards the light, this bud recieves 20sek of UV-C light each night, instead of the initial 10 seconds every 2 days.

43 days Damn they mature fast!

Thanks guys!

Not allot of news from me, I've been busy with work and Xmas stuff, and the plants have just been busy by them selfs.
No visual damage by the UV-C treatments yet.

They are taking on a bit of color, they've been a little too cold at night lately.
I'm getting some coloration on the "sweet spot" too, telling me it won't be long now. :)

I'm going to trim a lot of leaves in a day or two, and run a few days more with better light penetration before harvest.

That looks like a fantastic strain man! They fattened (and crystaled) up so much since I last saw them. I can't imagine the great things to come on the next grow too. Here's to a smooth happy harvest

Thanks. :tree: getting close..
I don't know what to make of this strain. It's just two f-seeds put in the ground without any selection at all, one is a leafy low yielder the other looks great.
I bet one plant(on the left side) will yield some +50% more than the other. The biggest buds on the right side of the pics, is just some long branches from the left side plant.
When I remove them from the screen I'll get pictures of both plants individually.

The timing may force me to throw the last f-GWS seeds it soil, and choose one as mum for the aero based only on how it does in vegging.

I took a few popcorns and rolled them in newspaper last night for some fast hot-curring in time for a new year test smoke.:joint:

I got rid of all my old moms at the time I was closing down the HID closets and building the micro cabs. Was in need of a break, I knew it would come back to haunt me... but I just closed down a few aquariums = I've got two 2x36w and one 2x55w pll ballasts unused at the moment. This may become light for a mum selection grow using one of the other cabs.

Cheers and thanks for watching!

Hey.

Day 50

The plants has been released from the screen today, and I've cut a lot of leafs and small buds for better light penetration on the last days of this grow.

Some of this scrog has been way too dense all the way through. I counted more than 40 buds when viewed from above, think the yield will improve a lot when I go down to 18 sog buds instead..

A dense spot before leafs and buds were removed.

The good looking:

And the cab looking a mess after the job was done.

Thanks guys!

I think I'll give them 5 days more without the screen than I thought at first. They still seem to put on weight, and the trics are allowed get darker without me complaining.
Heavy smoke goes hand in hand with a cold Danish winter. ;)

Thanks mate. Fresh input is always very welcome :)

I just had an idea I would like to share.
..

The way I air cool the bulbs, it think giving the bulbs extra surface at the base would bring down the working temperature. It would have an impact on the lifetime of the bulb as well - if it works.
..

Lightcooler.jpg

"Wings" made from aluminum, I want them all the way round the base.

What do you guys think about this idea?

That plastic part sure gets hot, so anything touching it will have heat transferred to it... otherwise it wouldn't feel hot when you touch it (heat transferring to your hand).

If you can increase the surface area & add air circulation, it should bleed off some of that heat.
If it had plastic fins as part of the mold, that would help cooling, so metal fins added should help too. Hey it's easy enough to test if you have some accurate way to measure the temps:chin:

I'm going to be using metal computer heatsinks on that same plastic space, and I'll be able to share my measurements when I get a new thermometer.

Hey
The plastic doesn't emits the majority of IR heat, since it is far colder than the actual bulb = It's not a good heat conductor.
I have 5 fans pulling air through my light channel, and the cab works at +2 C compared to ambient temperature, so I'm happy with how my cooling is right now.
When it comes to me growing Cannabis I only want to get rid of the uneven distribution of IR heat, any extra cooling would just be a bonus for next summer. Thats the reason for fooling around with a new base, made to actually cool the bulb surface.

Think I'll will only convert two bulbs for my next grow. Can't find my favorite bulb at any of my local stores. Can't bring myself to do an experiment on all 6 new ones.

For my next grow I've decided to turn half the bulbs around, leaving me 3 bases at each end of the lamp for better IR distribution.

Howdy, I've got it now. Before thinking of removing the base, fins attached would at least would help some.

I opened the base of one of my bulbs following your brave example!

And even left that way, the heat now wouldn't get trapped within the plastic base pocket. And when running a cool-tube with a tube guard, the airflow is greater without the bulk of the base. Same benefits with a fan too. The base is cut off very easily.

I switch my bulbs for flowering, so I'm going to attach alligator clips on the ends of the wires instead of hard-wiring directly to the bulbs.
