Yeah, great grow Angel Eyes, you've got what, maybe 5 grams out of all that work.

Mmmm... I'm thinking more like seven. :biglaugh:

The reason you don't need odor control is because you have nothing to control.

Thank you!

You seem very concerned about odor, BD. Is there a reason for this?

:pointlaug

Let's see... a quarter ounce every three weeks means I never have to buy weed again. In fact, I now give much of it away to friends and people who can't afford it. If you can find something negative in that, Blind Date, I wish you the very best in what must be a very difficult life.

Where did you get the darkroom louvre? I get all over the bay area, so if you can give me (us) an address or phone or name, I'd sure appreciate it.

Hi Keef. Loved your work on OG...

I got the louver on Amazon. It was from some photography distributor in New York. About $30 including shipping, and the package was here in a week. I think if you search for darkroom louver on Amazon you'll see several places pop up.

angel eyes, i really like your cabinet man... congrats!!! I'm maybe doing one myself... but i wanna use the cabinet for flowering 2 to 4 plants, so i was thiking on using a 150w hps or one of those 125w envirolites that have 10000 lumens or so. I have two major concerns, ventilation and the smell. any sugestions???

Well, I tried the 150 watts of HPS, and it was just too hot. Much hotter than the flourescent.

The six CFLs I have set up are fairly easy to fit into my tiny cabinet. Believe it or not, the 125 watt envirolite type bulbs are up to 14 inches long from tip to tip, which is tough to place in a very small cabinet.

As far as ventilation goes, if you create a huge intake on the bottom, and place your exit point on top, you can run without any active ventilation as long as the room temperatures stay under 65 degrees.

My room gets up to 85 degrees during the hottest days of summer, so I run my 12 volt, 120mm fan at about six volts, and the temperatures stay under 90 degrees at the top of the cabinet. So far, the plants have shown no signs of distress at all under these conditions.

As far as odor is concerned, it depends a lot on which plants you decide to grow. My Bubba Kush was a real stinker, but a plug-in odor neutralizer took away about 90% of the odor. Problem is, I don't so much care for the smell of the neutralizer, and if given the choice, I wouldn't have any chemical air freshener in my room.

So, right now I'm running one Romulan clone that is producing pretty much no odor at 40 days flower, and also a Trainwreck that is producing no odor. When you touch or brush up against these two plants, you're met with a sweet, spicy scent that is really pleasant. The Bubba Kush was very skunky and pungeant, and smelled that way from 15 feet without even touching the plant.

So, for odor control, I'd pick my strains with a focus on odor, and you should be fine.

Romulan at 40 days 12/12, straight from clone:

Trainwreck, 10 days 12/12, straight from clone. I topped this guy, and also trimmed several lower branches. Once again it will probably produce around a quarter ounce, which is the goal.

You are really blessed that you don't have to worry about odor...
Thanks for the tips angel eyes! I will be more concerned with the strain now. I was loooking on some old furniture i have home, and I might use an old 2 door cabinet so i can fit 4 plants like yours, stright from clone. Maybe a 7 to 10 days veging would increase the yeld. I wanna have 4 plants so i can do 3 months on and 3 months off with my micro-grow
I have a link from this spanish forum, and this guy had a 100w hps and he was getting some thick plants man, almost an ouce per plant... check it out if you can...

Much respect for a well thought out grow. If you only need 3, 7 is icing on the cake.

I almost wish I could post this anonymously, but there's a lesson here for all of us, so there's no sense in hiding.

Long story short, I made a very dangerous wiring mistake that could have been disastrous, and I still believe it was an easy mistake to make and one that could trip up a lot of people on this forum.

As you can see in my signature, I built an IKEA mini-cabinet, and I took my time and built it slowly and carefully. I wired it up for six 26 watt compact fluorescents, and I thought I had made a clean installation.

Unfortunately, I used wire that was rated for 12 volts, instead of the 120 volts I was running through the wire!!! Here is what it looks like when you run 120 volts through wire that is rated for 12 volts:

That purple discoloration is from heat fatigue on the wire insulation.

I had gone to a hardware store, picked up this 14 gauge wire, and asked a retired electrician at the store if it was the right wire to run six bulbs. He had looked at it and said yes, but he must have thought it was something else, and I made the mistake of not double-checking and finding out more about wire. I'm not going to blame the guy at the hardware store, because ultimately it's my responsibility to research and educate myself.

You see, I thought that the number that was important was the gauge. 14 gauge wire should handle 15 amps, and that's true, but that has nothing to do with the voltage rating of the wire.

If you see wire in a package at the hardware store, and it says "Primary Wire," that means it's made for low-voltage applications, such as cars, outdoor lighting, video and audio set-ups, etc.

The wire we need to use to wire a 120 volt light set-up is wire that is rated for at least 120 volts. I re-wired my lights using 14 gauge wire that is rated for 600 volts, which is overkill, but I'm going to err on overkill from this point on.

So, for anyone else out there who is going to wire up some lights, make sure to check out the voltage rating of the wire. The gauge is important, too, but please make sure you're not using low-voltage wire on your high-voltage light set-up.

The good news is that my GodThai clone (from a club in S.F.) has about two weeks to go, and I didn't burn my house down before I could harvest...

Hello all,

Did you have those lights wired in series or parrallel? because you are correct in that the guage of the wire is important. A wires electrical capacity is dictated by the amperage that can pass safely through the wire. This is so because the voltage is constant (quasi-constant).

Anyway, if you wired them in parallel the current drawn is much less then if you wired them in series.

For example if you wired 3 lights in series, your amperage draw is .75 amps (3*26watts/110volts),

Ok if wired in parallel,( (3/26watts)^-1)/110 volts =
..............................(8.66watts/110 volts) =0.079 amps

So, any standard copper wire of 14 guage or less will handle 15 amps. I hate to argue and if I am wrong I will gladly say so but you may have hooked them up all wrong and were pulling to many amps.

Just my opinion.

I think this is a great little cabinet for wha it is, and looking at the last 2 pics of the plant-was it the Godthai? well that speaks volumes to me. not every1 needs or wants kilos per crop, and a small setup like this is perfect for someone who doesnt smoke all that much or only for medical se and isnt hoofing donw 5 grams a day. Small, low wattage and inconspicuous setups like this one are also great for a medical user who is mobility impaired, its small its simple and it only uses a bit of power.
Props to you for a really well thought out and put together mini cab, even with the woring mishap it is a good little box, and id be happy to have one for fun. It would be fabulus for flowering out a male clone to collect pollen also...
Be lucky

Very clean and effective. i envy your modest needs too!!;) i will have to look for one of those darkroom louvers for my vegbox.... i like to filter my intake air so one that was made to hold a filter would be perfect although i could easily rig something....:)

Great cab. I'm glad you found a way to satisfy your needs. My cab is a long way from perfect, but I also am quite satisfied with what it provides, including ongoing opportunities to upgrade. In fact, your use of darkroom louvers is going on the "to do" list. Happy farming.

Nice grow box. Would like to see more of your actual grow though. I have the same size box running with a 150 hps but it isn't light proof. I was running a 70w hps and decided to upgrade since I had the ballast laying around. The electricity use is minimal but the light is very intense. Tops of a couple plants have gotten sunscald. I am using it as a mother chamber but I have flower out some plants at 70 watts, usually one at a time.

Okay, Ordinary Joe, ask and you shall have answers!

Here is a re-post of my grow report from another section of ICMag...

Here are the results of my GodThai grow, from clone to finished buds in 54 days of 12/12, no veg. I'm sure I could have let it go another week, but I'm not always the patient type. I'm working on that...

I wanted to keep the plant for a re-veg and possible cloning, but when I chopped it I discovered a few small bits of powdery mildew, so I didn't want to keep that particular plant in my confined grow area.

I had sprayed the plant twice with Seranade, which I thought had taken care of the P.M., but that stuff was persistent. This is one of the downsides of growing from medical club clones. That mildew is just tough stuff, and even when you think you've beaten it back, it comes back and hits one or two of your lower popcorn buds.

I'm now focused on building a proper flowering cabinet, which I'll be able to start in January, when I'll have enough money to tackle the job. I'm not sure if I want to go with 150w HPS, 250w HPS, or something like 250w of T5 fluorescents. I definitely want to include a charcoal filter, because I really like stinky buds, and I haven't been able to grow them!

I really envy -VT- because he's growing the way I wish I could, which is with a lot of variety and not going with a huge grow all of the same strain. I can't pull off what he's pulling off because I'll be building a stealth cabinet, but I just love the idea of running five or ten different exotic strains.

I've already started my next project: White Satin from Mandala Seeds. Six planted and six popped, so onward and upward, right?

You're planning to grow one plant again, correct? How do you plan on picking out the one to grow out? Are you going by the "female vibes" again? :canabis:

wtf...

wtf...

Angel Eyes...mucho respect, first of all... :respect:

a lot of us would not have posted a potentially hazrdous slip-up.

we are here to share common interests, enjoy each others' company and to learn to grow this fabulous plant...

if anyone can prevent a problem by another members' postings, we have all benefitted.

i don't see the need to bash Angel Eyes about yield, style or anything else. :badday: that's not why we are here.

i have a friend who is coming close to completing his first grow...in a cab just like yours...there is a lot of info here. thanks for posting the good, the bad, and (sometimes) the ugly!

good work, Angel Eyes, i look forward to your future endeavors! :sasmokin: :sasmokin:
