power saver 37%

There are a few of them on ebay... One description said that you should plug it into the outlet "closest to your meter"... that sounds suspicious to me.

That's about a sketchy website if I've ever seen one...I say stay away from it - looks like a fly by night shop IMO.

Doesn't matter where you use these "devices", Canada has pretty clean power compared to the US. All of these devices are garbage and do not work. I have an extensive electrical background. I have discussed and shown these devices to Cutler-Hammer, Siemens, and a friend who has a degree in EE.

I have an EE degree and the PF correction DOES work.. it just doesnt save home energy user in the US any $ due to the way the power companies charge for juice(KWH)... if the unit is like mine and has a built in motor controller then you will save some $ due to the motor not pulling juice from teh grid while the motors magnetic feild is propelling it through portions of its duty cycle

large companies all over the world use these devices to reduce their power comsumption on electrical devices that use induction motors...anywhere the eletrical grid is billed KVAH instead of KWH.

It would not suprise me if I saw in the US follow the lead of other countries that have switched to KVAH and PF matching as it is the green way to go... there is depending on the motor 20-30% savings in power usage... the reason the US is still on KWH is that the power companies are making a fortune as is, why would they make a unforced change that will reduce their income dramatically

damn thats some cheap juice... I am now paying 12.7cents a KWH up from 7.6 about 4-5yrs ago... if it gets much worse I will be going DiY solar

Ono Nadagin: From your post, I take it that PF equilizers do work but not here in the US. Is there anything else you would recommend using/doing in order to help cut the electric bill? I am in the process of building a new grow room and plan to run 3 1ks in a 3 bedroom house. Also have to add the AC, dehum., etc etc so my bill will be up there. Just wondering if there is anything else i can use/do?

Thanks for the help.

PF correction does work, but not how it's wired into the meterbase or service panel with these snake oil devices. PF correction is meant for loads with motors. Those PF2 devices from bghydro.com don't work. I was fired from the company that "used" to make them for not building their garbage flips and timerboxes.

DB2004-

When you say pf correction does work, are you agreeing with ONO that it works in places other than the US? I am trying to find something or someway to minimize my electric bill here in the US and it doesnt seem like these are the way to go.

Thanks again.

I do agree with ONO, PF correction does work, but only on loads such as motors. If you see true PF correction equipment, they are wired between the load(s) and the power, not wired in like the PF2 or Perfect Power units. The best way to lower your bill, use the bare minimum of power you need for personal consumption in your location. Other ways are to install a small NG generator or put a magnet on your KWHour meter...LOL, but that's considered illegal by some....LOL

Guys, all you need to do it read the inductance of the transformer and place a Capacitor in series to make the Inductive circuit look Resistive to the power supply and you'll save $$

It's called POWER FACTOR CORRECTION, basically Inductive and Capacitive loads throw the Voltage and Current out of phase. With Resistive circuits, the Voltage and Current is in phase.

The easy way to remember is ELI ICE ( E- Voltage I- Current L- Inductor C- Capacitor)

This means Voltage leads current in an Inductive Circuit and Current leads voltage in a Capacitive circuit. All you need to do to save $ is bring the voltage/current back into phase with each other.

In all honesty, if you make your house look Capacitive to the power company you meter will spin BACKWARDS and they'll have to cut you a check monthly because most loads on the grid are inductive...

Damn, now I gotta go educate myself/read about inductive and resistance to understand what the heck imnotcrazy said. INC-can you add some to that? I'm not scared to pop a meter and install something between me and the meter so I can lower my bills. All the little boxes I read about sounded like smoke and mirrors. My entire grow is on a separate 240v circuit and could easily be rerouted or altered. I'm curious now as I do run tools with large motors on the same circuit. Saws, dust collectors, sanders, compressors. One hell of circuit too, I can turn on every tool, every light, every fan, AC and Heat without blowing the breaker or making the wire warm. NICE!
Stay safe people and use caution when working with electricity, man that shit bites.

dont know bout us, but in uk my electric is billed on wat the meter reads and in using 30-40% less than i was b4, these worked for me.

good luck dudes, we all need save where we can.

I agree with Sandman. Not even a pic of the unit. I am very familiar with how PF correction, I can tell you that these cheap devices do not save money. You need large capacitors and complex formulas to calculate PF and it's meant for motors....

The wording on that link reads almost exactly the same as you stated on your original post

"Not the cheap type" "does not overheat"

and why the delay posting the link? Your "Power saver" web site wasn't ready yet eh
