I bet a full half of youse have given information to someone of authority that was damaging to someone else. I bet that same # would also adamantly Deny being a snitch and begin with their justification of said actions. A snitch isn't someone who is wrongfully accused trying to clear their otherwise good name ... a snitch is someone who is rightfully accused or caught red handed and gets out of trouble by getting someone else in More trouble ... or for revenge ... or to spite/smite them ... or to take over their turf/business etc etc ...

Then I will answer your original question, and also tell you what to expect.

First, if they issue an arrest warrant for you they will either contact your Lawyer and tell him to bring you in for processing, or come and knock on your door, ask you to come outside and they will cuff you.

Regarding the statement you had your Lawyer give. If this information implicated another person in a Felony, and they need this information to make an arrest, they now know you have that information. They will first try to get you to freely give a statement by possibly charging you, if they have anything near probable cause, and then using that as leverage, or if that isn't possible they have the option of bringing you before a Grand Jury, giving you immunity, and asking you to tell what you know under oath. They do not like to give immunity so they will do what they can to try and get you to cooperate in other ways. Depending on how deep you are into this, and you must be pretty close to it if you went to the effort to hire a Lawyer, be careful the other guy doesn't try laying this onto you if he finds out you have a Lawyer talking to the law. If you're lucky they may say "to hell with it" and drop the entire matter involving you.

That's why I say nothing good can come from letting the police know that you have information regarding a crime if you don't want to be involved in it.

I don't really understand the secrecy behind this if it's not pot related! Say it was a felony assault and you were implicated. Do you really think cops in your area are gonna come searching on a pot site for the keyword assault and then piece everything together to arrest you? Why not search porn sites or trucker websites? Maybe they'd get lucky maybe not, just seems a stretch to me if you were vague and just said I was accused of assault.

Also, don't know if its already been said, but only a judge can issue an arrest warrant, after being convinced by the police of probable cause that you need to be arrested, or an indictment by a grand jury.

They can politely ask if you want to talk, but it would be out of the ordinary IMO that they can arrest you to get you to talk to them. Seems to me that would be false arrest and imprisonment, but I'm no Perry Mason. Especially if your lawyer is already in contact with them. My buddy was indicted on two felony (trafficking) counts last week and didn't get arrested. Simply went into the judges office and set a date for arraignment where he will show up in front of the judge on his own. He's partying it up 1000 miles away in another state right now, and thats after being indicted.

I have heard that police have called people and said they have won a contest and to come pick up their big prize. They set up in a rented location and hundreds of people come to pick up their prize only to be arrested.

they made a reality tv show about this... called "smile you're under arrest" with Sheriff Joe Arpaio a well known cockbag.

It's amazing that people are stupid enough to think they've won prizes in contests they haven't even entered. Newsflash for morons: people don't give things away to random people.

JJ is technically right about arrest and search warrants. However, cops do what THEY want. Tell the judge you came out fully dressed, and locked the door behind you, but they searched the house anyway. See what the judge says. Cops do have a right to search the premises after an arrest to secure it etc.

I know someone who walked outside the house but they cuffed him and put him back in the house and sat him on the couch and searched the whole house. Not sure what happened to the charges on the BS they found in the house.

Cops do what they want, and have no consequences for when they go outside of the law. It would be great if there was a panel or board that reviewed this, then started posing fines and/or punishments to cops for violating the laws
