Please breeders we still want regular seeds too...

Tom, can you peep the 'article' from this link?

http://themidwestcultivator.com/mar...orruption-of-cannabis-through-feminized-seeds

just curious if there is any scientific truth behind this... i.e. does the induction of male flowers on a female plant really add an additional Y chromosome or if this is nonsense? Cheers. Also, have you checked out any of treetown's lines yet?

PS - I don't have a horse in this race... just want better understand and disseminate knowledge informed by scientific evidence.

you first need to understand the sexual natures of the flowers on a cannabis plant compared to other species of plants.

The cannabis plant has multiple forms of sexual expression.

The problem is not fem/regular but lack of education on both parts of the coin.

that is straight up laughable. They might make good seeds but when you advertise your self as the "breeders" breeder its funny. Selling f1's doesn't help a breeder.

Hi Plastochron,

We can not add any extra chromosomes with reversal techniques, that's absolute nonsense. In fact the entire article is filled with nonsense. To me it reads like fear mongering perhaps in order to drum up business, written by someone who doesn't know what they are talking about. Unfortunately for cannabis, it seems to be working to at least some degree. -Tom

PS, I have been meaning to get up with you in PM, give me a few it is rather hectic around camp currently. -T

Tom - what do you think will happen to the future cannabis genepool with so much female x female action going on?

MrDank, I don't believe cannabis' fate will be terribly affected by the action either way. If I was to speculate would-be breeders might have to pick up a book or two before proceeding, and there may be a bit less random outcrossing occurring. The genepool would welcome both of those actions imo.-T

this is the first link I saw when I duckduckgo.com this subject. I'm originally from Wisconsin and had many friends and family members farm different crops. If the marijuana industry turns into the soybean or corn industry it will be terrible. I understand intellectual property and respect for that but legal monopolies are bad for consumers.

Buy regular seeds or learn to make your own by using saved pollen.

Crisscross I think you have your subjects crisscrossed, what the hell did you type in to get that link? Nothing having to do with this subject at all.

I believe regular seeds are important to the canna community. Though fem seeds definately have there place in the market for folks with limitied space, time, and $$ to grow out many males and then just disgard them. But what I would like to see is seed companies coming out with regular and female seeds like DNA genetics does with allot of there beans. I like using regular seeds due to the fact if I find an epic male, i will cross it with my best fem to make some F2's. I believe this is important to make more beans, being you just spent 175$ on 10 seeds... why not make some more ;)

I also think it's important to keep the genetics alive and strong, although some folks may just end up diluting them. But people like SOTF420 who had the good ol packs of Sweet 4 from the spice of life glory days, and brought that shit back with some love! Now everyone is reaping the bounty of good ol' sweet tooth #4. That's just my :2cents: I cant call myself a breeder or claim to know a whole lot about it, that's just were I stand. Much love all, SL

The "Sweet Tooth #4" seeds SOTF420 is offering are not SOL Sweet Tooth #4...

If your mother and father had a bunch of kids (boys and girls) all named Swt#4, and the kids breed and have kids of there own, the kids of the kids are no longer Swt#4, there a new cultivar... Maybe Sweet Toof #4 or whatever you want to name them... But they are not the same as the original Swt#4 kids... Might be close, but not the same... I am not knocking SOTF420 or his seeds... Just my :2cents:

On a completely separate note... has anyone noticed any difference between the seeds or progeny produced via various methods of chemically inducing hermaphroditism?

Hello Tom :)

Question if I may:

lets say you want to make a cross between deep chunk and haze (propbably you already have and I don't have seeds of those!); how would you go about this?

would you select only females from both deep chunk and haze and then stress either one to pollinate the other?

or do you go the traditional way?

thanks!

There are several misconceptions regarding breeding by way of reversals.
Here are a few:

That the lot being female is the entirety of the techniques worth. This is the lamest imo, it's but a single side effect of this very powerful breeding tool.

That it is somehow a replacement for asexual reproduction/clones/identical reproduction. Nothing could be further from the truth, recombination still occurs with this technique.

That it eliminates the ability of the customer or other breeders to continue breeding with the stock. Ridiculous, it does no such thing.

That it narrows the genepool. Nonsense, as stated earlier that is a product of numbers, not technique.

That it somehow increases the rate of intersex individuals within a population. This is nothing more than fear mongering with zero science behind it.

I could go on all day for the amount of bullshit that has piled up on this subject is deep as hell. On the one hand we have folks badmouthing the practice as a hack as anybody can do it. In the same sentence these same folks are crying about being unable to figure out how to proceed from there. It's all ridiculous and warrants zero sympathy.

I'm not trying to say it's an exact replica, but the selections he made were amazing. And yes, the Sweet 4's were from original spice of life seed. SL
