By the way, rained a bunch this week. Inches. The garden area is all flooded. As bad as I've ever seen it. Plots are just fine though. A good buffer too, so they are high enough. Grown in some very wet years, and its always stayed dry! Got a moat around the garden. They'll never run dry!
Yeah! Start out as small seedlings late may, then come early July they start showing male/female! I even topped them a couple times. The would be 6 ft right now for sure! Got 1-2 inches in the last 24 hours. Hoping they aren't getting wet feet! Could have another inch or 2 by late Tuesday. What do you do if your plot is wet? Bring some potting soil to pile around the plants?
Man thats tough! Been cooler then average here and moist. Cannabis loves it, but I think they would grow a little quicker if the sun came out more. Its been very cloudy for this time of year. I work outside.
They grow so fast. Hope you get a few days of sun to help dry it up a bit. With all the rain and a little sun, BOOM serious growth in your future.
Cheers GG
Yes we had all the rain, then it rained some more.... This morning woke up with heavy rain. Couple hours of it!!!! Sooo, it was time to check on things again. What I found was the highest water I've ever seen in the area. Swamped out!!! Its all good! Plants are on higher ground. Water level is pretty close. Puddles within 10feet of the plots!
What do you do about swamped plots? Trust God will see us though. He created us, and has His ways of giving us wisdom... He imparted some of his wisdom today... Had to smoke one after this trip! Another inch or 2 possible over the next couple days. Hope it goes around us!
What I did today was dig out the ditches and try to make them better. Then I scooped water out on each plot back and forth. I saw water pouring out of the garden soil into the ditch, so I kept going until it didn't pour out very fast. The ditch to move water away from the garden started having water gush back in so I had to dam it back up with sticks and mud! You can't make this shit up... You learn things every day... Enjoy!
If that rain is a sign of things to come in future years. Next year maybe try raised beds or swamp tubes. Even raised rows, and the water can drain out from between them like what you are trying to do with the ditches. Other than that I don't think you can do much more this year but pray. I'm having the exact opposite problem and have been wishing for rain and it looks like it's finally coming.
Hope it all works out for you and just be thankful they are not in full bloom and full of mold.
Peace GG
Thanks for the advice gorilla! I did dig them deep and heap up the soil. Entire plot was dug up, so it is dome shaped. I will try to get them raised up as much as possible when I dig next year. I was thinking about harvest this morning. Might have to start mid september if the regular rains continue. Lots of sun today! Sure to see some growth now!
I know it, just decided to rain here I guess. Not usually this rainy. Pretty sure June was a record wet month, and we are carrying on with the rain in July. We normally get pretty dry in the summer. Just depends which way the wind blows.
Nice start there mate. Just a suggestion. You could grab some organic mater and bury those plants up abit which will give them more aerated soil to set roots into/ draw nutrients from. Will help with any future rains aswell.
Yeah that would work well I bet. Could also bring in potting soil for mounding. but I don't want that sitting there all winter. Too obvious. Just need to mound the crap out of the beds next year. I did notice the plants were shooting out roots from the main stem by the ground... Aggressive rooters.
Hey vince, thanks for stopping by to check out the garden! Trenches were dug to help drain off extra water in the garden. Water table is close by, they have a bit much water actually. Well another round of rain came and we got about .75 to 1.6 inches. Sunny and breezy again after the storm. Tonight is yet another possible rain. Could bring an additional inch. Praying everything will be alright. I will probably try and go out tomorrow if I can.
We weathered the storm! Got another slug of rain less than an inch I think. Checked on the plot, and several needed stood up! Very thankful the rain moved on! Really wasn't any worse than a couple days ago. Been warm and windy.
Found a couple males and pulled them out. Took inventory of where females are and we have enough scattered across the garden to get a good yield this year looks like!
Had a borer tunnel and ruin a 3 foot branch on a female. Cut the branch off with my knife. Pulled apart the borer! Its all good though, she was branchy, still has 3 really strong ones about 3 ft long.
