Pictures Of My Grow Rooms Built Inside Garage With Questions for Suggestions

Ok, gotta go to Harbor Freight to buy a 13/16 step bit, i bought a "daredevil" spade bit from home depot to drill my buckets and the spade bit murdered my bucket and rendered it useless :(

that 27 gal tote full of water will weigh 213 lbs! i would use four blocks to support it. two blocks under each end of the tote making it 16" high. it will have enough head to flow well then.

you are not going to be able to get the 10 gal rubbermaids under the tote unless you build a support stand out of 2 x 12's or something so that you have a shelf on top for the 27 gal tote and still space underneath for the rubbermaids.

i see i told you to drill the float valve hole at 7.5". that would be impossible in those containers so install the float as high up under the rim as you can.

well, the more i think about it i think i made a mistake telling you to buy the 10 gal tubs because of depth. sorry about that. but keep them and i'll show you how to make cloners out of them.

you could solve the whole space problem by taking 2 black 5 gal buckets, putting them side by side in that space and then set the 27 gal tote on top of them. with the lids on the buckets they will handle the load. i stand on one all the time with my portly ass so 2 should be ok.

install the floats at 7.5" as before.

the only problem is that you will have to move the tote to adjust the float valves in the buckets.

not too bad with that size tote if you time the adjustment with the refill.
Hey man thanks for chiming in, you actually came in at the right time, I'm so indecisive right now with all these ideas being thrown at me lol. I think I should just show you what i have and I would appreciate it if you can decide what would be best for my application? I should first mention that i do have two black 5 gallon buckets I can use and that I found a poker table in my garage I can use, if needed.

First of all, here's a Youtube video for anyone wanting to hear and see my question haha
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YKtXP030VA

So here's a picture of the Reservoir Location which is between the flower and veg room. These are the totes and containers I have available to be used as reservoirs:

So I obviously have a table now! Would you still suggest using 5-gallon buckets over the 10-gallon totes, even with the table? Or use the 10-gallon totes since I have a table now?

I'm using both 27-gallon totes as bulk res for each room. Are they overkill for 4 plants each? If so, I will return them and get two 17 gallon totes instead.

Oh, and i was able to exchange the Tropicote for the Calcinit , just had to pay the 7 dollar difference

please don't put that 200 lb plus tote full of water on top of that card table!

do you have room to put the 5 gal buckets inside the rooms?

if so you could put the tote on some blocks and not worry about it.

OK i bit the bullet and went out and bought the strongest table i've ever spent 8 bucks on haha

Now that I got that out of the way, its time to start running the plumbing. But I just realized I bought 3/4" elbows and 3/4" tees from John Deere instead of 5/8" that i was suppose to get.. arrrghhh.. tried calling around the hydro shops and 5/8 isnt a size they carry. Did you guys get your 5/8" elbows and tees from home depot?? Anyone know the cheapest place to get them from? They cost 3.50 each at HD/lowe's! and i need like 16 of each so 32 total. Im not trying to pay 100 bucks for some small plastic fittings hahah. Im looking at us plastics company right now. gonna do some bargain shopping and see where i can source the cheapest from. If anyone could save me some time by pointing me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated!

Went to Home Depot and ended up getting 1/2" elbows and 1/2" tees. Each bag of 10 costs $4.20 so 42 cents each. The 5/8" barbs cost $3.50 each at home depot so ten of those alone would've cost 35 bucks!

I just hope im not shooting myself in the foot by using 1/2" barbs. I figure its only an 1/8th inch of a difference and i will be using zip ties to secure the hose tightly around these fittings. Hopefully a 1/8" difference is not enough to induce clogging or make my supply and return flow rates diminish. Will i be okay with using 1/2" tees and elbows as long as i dont get leaks??

Alright! so i got most my plumbing done for my flower room today. Just waiting for amazon to ship my float valves so i can start working on the reservoir side of things.

I learned that people are using 1/2" barbed Tees and Elbows as 5/8" is either harder to find or expensive, locally.

One thing im wondering about is if its a big deal if the goodyear hose doesnt want to lay straight? Like some elbows are tending to elevate an inch off the ground, tops. Is it detrimental that the entire length of hose is flat and level??

Gonna make drip rings tomorrow. After I finish that, i will be bored and waiting for my float valves :(

looks pretty good! do those fittings make a snug push fit into the hose? for example, if you were to pick up a piece of hose with a fitting in the bottom end does the fitting just fall out or does it stay in the hose?

because if it falls out it's the wrong type of fitting. the gray plastic ones we use are in the plumbing dept at HD's too and they will stay in the hose. usually they make a watertight fit by themselves but we go ahead and clamp them with zip ties. i hate wet rooms!

are your valves threaded? you need threaded valves. do any of the fittings you bought thread into a 1/2" fpt fitting like the threaded valve has?

The fittings i used appear to be snug. When i lift corners they do NOT slip off. In fact, when i fit the hose on and try to pull it off, it is VERY hard to pull off. It takes a lot of pull power to pull the hose off and if i do, it scrapes a thin layer of hose off so i think its a prettysnug fit. I took a precision caliper to it and it measures 87/128 which is equivalent to 0.679 inches.

5/8" = 0.625"

So the barbs are definitely a tiny bit bigger than 5/8" which is what we want. I do regret that i didnt grab the grey fittings since i know now you guys are using them. Checking online i see my local HD has them, they just put them in a totally different aisle i was in, and i didnt see them. Dammit. I was thinking about pulling all the fittings off, returning them to home depot, and getting the gray ones, but pulling the hose off all these fittings would scrape off a small layer of the inner hose. But these fittings seem to work anyway. I did what Smog Technicians call the EVAP Leak Test on it. I hooked up a hose to a fitting, plugged one end with my finger, and sucked on the other end to create vacuum. I left my finger and mouth on it for a minute to see if vacuum would leak off or not. It didn't leak off. So it passed that test haha just waiting for float valves to arrive to test it with water.

and no i did NOT get threaded 1/2" valves. Is that crucial? I got the slip-in kind. Will they leak?? The hose does appear to fit snug in the 1/2" slip fittings though. I am not sure if my barbed fittings will screw into a 1/2" FPT fitting i dont have a FPT fitting at home i dont think. Unless.. the Eco 185 pumps have a 1/2" FPT fitting on it? I tried screwing my barb into the eco 185 pump thread (even though not sure what size it is) just to answer your question, and it doesnt screw in, but it does fit almost perfectly, just not snug.

How did you hook your hose up to your valves? i was at home depot yesterday looking at pics of your valves but couldn't figure out exactly what fitting you used and which valve. Please share! I may just go back and return the slip-in PVC valves

Dad (D9) says lay the hose down outside in the sun, pull tight occasionally, hose will remain straight.. sumptin bout mylickyouranal structure (maybe I spelled it worong??) will keep it straight.. I cant be that wornong!

EDIT: sowry, VFW, Baileys/coffee, bud light (3), bloody mary dbls x 3,, puffin too... nap time..

Thanks for the info D9. Probably gonna go back and get the threaded valves for peace of mind.

anyone have any idea on how i should clean this 55-gallon drum i bought off craigslist? I think the previous owner used it for a hydro reservoir. (it said "grow hub" on the side and it has what looks like nutrient stains. i could be wrong since i have no grows under my belt).

It doesn't look too bad but i want to use it to store RO filtered water so i can have clean water on hand when my bulk res is low. Hoping i dont have to run a crap load of water through it just to clean it

EDIT: NEVERMIND! realized ill probably want to chop the top off to put a float valve in it anyway. So ill chop the top off, clean it, install a float valve, and flip the top piece i chopped off- upside down- to use as a lid.

we cut them with a circular saw. the tops are 24" plastic water heater pans. use a stiff brush on the inside.

I love build outs.. Looking good so far and you've got decades of combined experience guiding ur way. You couldn't be In a better position to start out... I foresee heavy harvests:) good luck

alright guys!! so i expect to finish plumbing the PPK this weekend. With that being said, I am now taking the time to research my seed popping process.

I am wondering if i should get some Rapid Rooters for the seeds i plan to use? Should I build a PPK cloner to put seeds in? Or do i really not need anything and can go straight from shot glass of water to damp paper towel to final turface container??

Don't overthink germination bro its as simple a process as can be and if viable, takes care of itself.Soaking for 24-48 hours and if not popped going to a moist paper tower is great.Your whole plan is great.
