Philips 315w CDM Elite (CMH)

Thinking of trying these 315 watt to cut down on heat issues during the summer....

Got a quote from Welthink for $1000 shipped for 12 315w digital remote ballasts...

Not really liking that all complete systems have an integrated ballast....

That's a great price for the 12 315w digital remote cmh ballasts. Best price I was looking at was $155/ea for the Phantom ballasts through Grower's House. And, if I'm not mistaken, the Cycloptics GB fixtures originally shipped with a Welthink ballast.

So, at that price, and if getting a discount to around $250/ea if buying 10 or more of the Greenbeams reflectors-only, that comes to about $310 for the GB reflector and Welthink ballast. Add $70-75 for the Philips Agro 3100 lamp, and you're at $385 for a pieced-together GB fixture. That's better than the $439 price I'm trying to negotiate for the entire GB fixture package, and MUCH better than the $549/539 "starting price" for the Greenbeams complete fixture package.

My only concern/lingering question is, "why did Cycloptics stop using the Welthink ballasts" and switch to ParGrow?" Hmm. Anyone know if there was a quality/reliability issue?

If there isn't any issue with the Welthink ballast, I'm going to go that route and "piecemeal" my Greenbeam builds.

Oh... and not sure if by "all the complete have an integrated ballast" you meant that you didn't like it that all ballasts are built into the hood or not - if that's what you meant, not all of them do.

Sun has an integrated unit, with the ballast inside the hood, and Nanolux has an attached ballast to the top of the hood (top-side mount on the last model I saw today). But Phantom and Greenbeams and Sun all have external/remote ballast complete fixtures. And both Phantom and GB allow you to buy the hood/reflector separately so you can add your own ballast and bulb.

Have to factor in shipping on those Greenbeam hoods...

The Phantom hoods can be had for $125 shipped...

Yeah, good point. And I did the math wrong - the best discount on the GB reflector and Wellthink would be $335 + shipping for the reflector. So about $410 or most likely more. The Phantom hood with all of that would be around $285 or so, with everything shipped.

If the Wellthink ballasts are not getting any bad reviews, I'm going to make a call to Wellthink today and talk to them either way.

Youll be fine with CFL or better yet veg under a 315w 942 for best results. To start with for the first run you can veg in your tents then flower in place and see how you like that. and if youre going with many tents you could stagger and run perpetually. Depending what your goals are. Just a thought.

I use the 315 specifically for veg then flower with DE.

No plant is totally happy with quick environmental changes, its not natural, but i really dont think youll have shock issues

anybody order from ats latelty? how long did it take to get your stuff? i might have to cancel my order. its been 2 weeks now. might have to give the phantoms a try. since they seem like the next best deal!

I paid for my order to ATL on Dec 1st. Still waiting. Tons of reasons and excuses...but excuses don't light up my room.

That's not good. If your going to build lighting systems for the public you have to have great customer service. It's what keeps people coming back and word of mouth advertising.

not as good a deal as ATL, but if you put daylight savings in the order comments, you can get another 10% off the sales price here on the philips ballast and any philips cdm lamp.

Ouch. I'm glad I never opened an order.... I figured if a couple questions couldn't get answered, I didn't dare order...

I wrote this earlier but i guess i forgot to hit the post button... Just wondering if anyone has tried the 630w dimlux or nanolux and their impressions so far. Also how they compare to the lec 630. I want to get one of these but not sure which one yet, nanolux is the cheapest but the ability to dim the dimlux makes it sound good....

That Dimlux has peaked my interest because of the dimmer, but the price!

I can get the LEC 630 for a tad under $500, they dont carry Dimlux though...

Anyone from the UK using this CMH,if so what fixture and ballast did you use?
Thanks, mjg132.

I'm using the maxibright fixtures dude, they use the phillips lamps + ballast just in their own housing so it's the same as the lights interaction models just in differing housing and half the price. Im not disappointed with them.

I run a LEC 630 in the main veg tent. It works great but still puts out a lot of heat. I'm getting a bit more heat output then I did with the 600mh. Possibly from the mirrored reflector. The 630 is to big for my DR150 tent anyway. I will move the 630 out of the tent, Move 1 of the 315 in. I got the 630 awhile ago. I think the dim feature on the Dimlux will help with the heat and its not as bulky as the SS LEC 630.
