I have a few 945w I use from time to time ... They work fine in standard ballast. You will lose bulb life but there still claiming 10k hrs in them that's fine with me. Gotta have adequate cooling for them. I don't use AC here. This was a major reason I jump over to CMH.

I agree with Hammerhead. I grew with HPS for nearly 15 years and NEVER had the yield and quality I get from CMH.
I believe the improvement is due to 2 main effects of the CMH - massive reduction in heat and more useable spectrum.

I go with phillips bulbs, so that being said, best deal ive found for cheap vert set ups are fro. Growerhouse. Prism b315 ballast, supposed to be phillips generic vased versions. Also includes phillips bulb, and mogul adapter for 200 bucks. For 228, you can get their cheap wing reflector n cord set too, with that. Im running a few horizontal right now and think the performace is solid so far. Ive used them for veg for about a month or two now, and just 20 some days in flower, n they are producing well.

I bought '2' digital grow 315's off ebay... everything included- remote ballast ,hangers,hood,bulb- all for 190 delivered... 2year warr on ballast (hope wont need to use it)- the bulbs are 'hydro crunch' 3100's- not sure how they stack up against the philips, prob not as good but in a 4x3.5ft tent should be ample light...

With everything else dialed in you should do swimmingly. Try to get the specs on the lamps so you'll know when to change 'em. Some are rated for 10K hrs rather than 20K like the Philips.

I don't have sufficient longevity to say that my choices were the best, but I'm happy thus far.

That said, Growershouse had some nice deals on both the Philips bulbs, -and- the Galaxy ballasts. My lack of familiarity with Prism had me shying away from them. I was more familiar with the Galaxy ballasts, and I think they might be $30 (??) more than the Prism Lighting ballasts.

I went with the SunSystem vertically-disposed remote hoods for the better lighting, larger foot-print/more broad angle of lighting, & familiarity with the quality of their 'build' in their hoods.

Few other folks (other than maybe Planet Natural) will ship bulky items to where I live for the rate, and at the speed of freight, that Growershouse has done for me. And $100 to $200 (sometimes more) saved on freight, where I am, matters huge.

Planet Natural has a similar relationship/agreement with Fed Ex as what Growershouse enjoys, but they didn't have all of what I wanted. Their pricing was a bit higher, too, but I know they'll often work with you if you're buying a decent sized order, and you talk to the right person..

In terms of estimating 'unique' orders, they haven't always been as responsive as I'd like at PN in returning calls. GH has them beat there, in my experience. But I like both places.

Sunplix are to expensive. I use many different brands . Prisma work just as good. Only 1 that failed was Phantom II.. I still use a original 315 Phantom.

Does prism make a double (315x2) remote ballast? I can't find any. At 160 per 315 vs. 400 for 2 x 315's the sunplix are looking pretty good to me. I like that you can connect all of them to one dimming device.

Sunplix has always been 1 of the most expensive CMH options. Unless they recently reduced there prices?. If ur referring to there dual 315 Ballast it's 399+22 shipping.. If its there DE Fixture there 650$.

Many are trying these.. Good bang for the buck

sweet, and then the cord extension allows the ballast to be mounted remotely instead of attached to the reflector? which bulb would be the best for flower, 3400? :tiphat:

I have some amazon specials they work ok but too many are doa or start acting funny.

If the prisms are decent that sounds like a better option at $99

The 3400 does have reports of higher output, but the spectrum chart shows that the difference is mostly an increase in yellow and green spectrum.
3100kR or 3000kR is what most people are selecting in 630 DE tubes.
