PH information needed

OK im gonna go ahead and deep dive this,
There are alot more questions we should have prob asked

We talking in the ground or in a container ?
Real soil or a potting mix ?

Where this went sideways on me was...thought I was using distilled water for PH test but it was tap water,
An addition of 30% Sea Soil compost to my traditional mix is only 5.5 PH. This the first time using this product and I didn't account for the lower PH.

I have used this blend for decades and have not had problems until this mix up. I believe all is well now.

ANYONE USE PH UP AND PH DOWN IN THE LIQUID BOTTLES?

MAYBE VINEGAR AND BAKING SODA ?
OK SULFUR AND LIME ?

RUN OFF OF PH 6.5 IDEAL?

Vinegar isn't stable for long,a stronger acid will keep it there . The plants will adapt to a PH as long as it doesn't fluctuate often or is too extreme. I grow big plants in clay in my yard and they do fine and I don't check ph nor water with ph adjusted ,if we a have a drought I also water with well water if needed. It's when the ph changes you run into problems. JMO

Two things I use in my mix is

Barn Lime Fertilizer Enhancer, 50 lb. $3.99 (crushed limestone)​

Manna Pro Oyster Shell Poultry Treats, 50 lb 16.99 (just oyster shell)


Oyster shells are made up of about 95% calcium carbonate,
along with a small amount of organic proteins and trace amounts of iron and manganese

Calcium carbonate is the active ingredient in agricultural lime

Use a whole bag of each and never had a issue great results

Worst plant episode I ever has was with hot compost nutes etc and cooked some plants
Now I mix let sit for about a month then use only on mature plants

At an alkaline pH (> pH 7), a gaseous form of ammonia is present – it is highly aggressive and toxic to the plant and animal life . At a neutral or acid pH (pH <7), ammonia is chemically converted into ammonium, which is 100 times less toxic and can be assimilated by plants.

My theory on small grains of limestone and large shell chunks... they dissolve as needed

My Sea Soil is called "Container Complete."

I use to use oyster shell in my blend when I had chickens but that was a while ago.

I've been using dolomite for decades and during veg or bloom I never have to adjust the PH, it remains stable through out.

My main mix up here was thinking I was using distilled water to PH my soil when I was using tap water, my Mrs. kept in a similar bottle next to the distilled bottle. I just assumed both were the same but they were not.
It seems that Sea Soil Container Complete is popular with growers in my area. This will be my first time using a 30% addition to my generic peat & perlite store bought mix along with added organic meals, greensand, dusts.

It's a work in progress at this time but feel good about the new blend. Since I can no longer get what I use to use.
In the next city over to me you can buy cannabis soil in bulk from Growers Supply but I have no use for yardage of soil. I only grow a few plants in my 39" x 39" x 60" tent.

I always like to hear what people have to say, I have been growing for about 50 years and have learned from fellow growers over the years.
