PersonalMeds' First Grow (Outdoor)

Hey everyone. My first post here, and subsequently my first grow, which happens to be outdoors under the beautiful sun (although I've been smoking for many moons..) I hope to do some hydro in the future, and will most certainly look to you geniuses here for tips when I do, but for now...

As you'll see by some photos below, she's already about 7 weeks or so into flowering, and I'm estimating she has at least 4-5 more weeks to go. She was a clone purchased from a medical dispensary, and was labeled as White Widow x NYC Diesel. I'm not sure how accurate it is, but she is starting to frost up now so time will tell. She's just under 6 feet tall, and only due to some stem crushing along the top to keep her below the neighbors wall :) As you can tell she's in groundsoil (with some miracle gro to freshen up the soil nutrients. I'll agree with Lougrew here that miracle gro does nothing to the taste, my dad has been using it for years!)

She's pretty low maintenance, and I have only done some minor pruning and pest control (been lucky enough to have native mite destroyers and only a couple flys and small hoppers with very minimal leaf damage.) Other than that she just gets watered every day (we have dry soil here, a bit sandy.) So I'm afraid this won't be much of a technical grow :) But I hope some of you folks may be interested anyway. She's sure got me excited, as rubbing her buds softly with my fingers produces a very spicy yet sweet smell, very pungent. I did some trichome checks today with the lovely radio shack 60x-100x illuminated pocket scope and I'm seeing about 20% (maybe less) cloudy and the rest clear. I'll try to get some nice digital camera trichome pics later, as I have a nice digital rebel to work with.

And now for some pictures, more to come later as she develops and I snap some more:

Anyone have any advice or comments, please feel free!

Edit: Also if anyone wants to give a yield estimate I'd love to hear your opinions!

Welcome to ICMAG

She looks amazing sofar, and the best is yet to come!
Hopefully you will have a dry fall, and will end up with lots of sticky buds. :yummy:

Thanks for the kind words! Glad to be here amongst kindred spirits. I wish I could pass her smell along through the net so you all could get that spicy aroma, it's divine.

Also, what the pics may not portray properly is how bushy the actual plant vegetation is. The plant itself, while being just under 6' like I mentioned, is probably 4'-5' wide in diameter in a nice big circular shape. Lots of long branches looking for more light I assume :) There are lots of long under-branches with much smaller and undeveloped buds on them, would I be better off trimming those for overall growth? Or just keep them around and use them or toss them in with the trim for the bubble hash? Any input there?

Here's some more photos of her:

And I have one more photo here, which is my dad's plant on the other side of the yard. It's a seed he started growing 3 years ago, and each plant has managed to produce 1 or 2 seeds, so he has replanted it every year since, so this is 3rd generation (no cloning done.) The cola's are super thick and have been for a few weeks, but she still seems to be piling on the trichomes and slowly getting thicker still. SUPER sticky! I checked the trichomes and she's about 30% cloudy, maybe 1% amber at this point (I found very few amber trichomes.) She sprouted back in April, and probably has a few weeks left before she's ready. No idea on genetics as I said, but she's very potent, with thicker and darker indica-like leaves and a very sweet smell and buds full of resin. Has excellent medical properties for appetite, insomnia, and body pain. Any expert plant identifiers out there want to take a stab at it's possible family-tree? :) Here's a flower shot from a couple days ago (there's 2 of them growing back there but it's hard to get a good shot of the whole plant although I can try):

Edit: I feel like I should mention that I've tried hundreds of medical strains through various dispensaries, and this unknown homegrown one here is one of THE strongest and I've ever smoked.

Thanks everyone for the welcomes and nice comments :) I've been looking around a lot for a couple days, just had to wait for account activation before I could post. Read lots of very good threads and saw lots of verrrry nice plants! I hope to be active here for quite some time and soak in all the knowledge. Still a novice when it comes to growing but I want to learn. :D

DimeBag65: What kind of babies are you raising? From seed or clone? Or if you have a thread up, just link me so I can go read :)

well you already got my vote for going hydro ...Welcome to IC
Looks like these'll be some lovely smoke

Thanks everybody :) And yeah Delta I'd like to go Hydro at some point, but I lack the space currently, so outdoor works much better for me right now :joint:

I forgot to mention before that some leaf nodes were systematically pinched out during the veg stages to get her to branch out and get bushier. I did a couple selective branch cuts today from around the middle of the plant. The ones that weren't getting much light. Hopefully it will increase yield, I may even have to trim some more, but I'm trying to do as little as possible other than fixing any semi-serious problems that may pop up. Just watched my Dad pull 4 or 5 full-grown grasshoppers off his plant, thankfully they haven't made it around the house to mine, or maybe they just like his strain He had a swarm of them show up last year too, mostly miniature ones, getting stoned off fan leaves and falling off the plant. Pretty funny to watch :D

Here's some more photos I snapped earlier. The first is my best attempt at a base root shot. Hard for me to do with no one to hold branches out of the way, as she's so bushy, but I think this one portrays enough. It's about the width of a soda can, with the first offshoot seen in the photo being thicker than a bic lighter. Also as you can see the plant has begun killing off some of it's unneeded fan-leaves to supply the flowers with more nutes, which is fine by me, saves me having to prune them :)

Other 2 photos are attempted canopy shots. First from an angle, then more straight down from above. Was best I could do, thankfully I'm tall and have long arms and she's shorter than me :) Otherwise I'd have to climb on the roof with my camera, and let's just say I don't want to attract that kind of attention :D

Any tips on pruning to increase overall yield would be appreciated.

nice bush there buddy!
in terms of pruning to increase overall yield, i think you might be past that point.... you could tie some branches down to try an increase light coverage but im personally not a fan of trimmin those pretty fan leaves at the stage ur at

peace

Thanks! Good idea too, I have plenty of room to try tying some back I think, I will do that tomorrow.

Also should I try adding any nutes or bloom boost or anything like that? She's just been getting water and has only had the enriched soil nutes, nothing storebought in it except miracle gro but that was way back in Apr/May when she was in the ground. Since she still has at least a month of flowering left, can anyone give me suggestions on additives to increase yield or potency? I'm really clueless when it comes to all the varieties of nutrients on the market, so any help here would be greatly appreciated. If you think I should just leave 'er be, tell me that too. We just got some warm winds started and the heat and sun are picking up so now would probably be the time! All opinions are welcome! :D

hey there PM, lookin great man, love seeing lotsa bud sites to support massive colas :D probly tieing some branches and gettin a lil more light into the inner parts of the colas would be only thing i can think of LooKin good and healthy.

i personally use a high # P and K called beastie bloomz 0-50-30 along with the organic nutes i started em out on. but if your plants are used to miracle grow i would just mix some of that in some jugs poor around the plant let soak in for a lil bit.. then hose down the area around the plant with water so it absorbs down through the soil. dont really need any nitrogen since they are far along in flowering so as far as miracle grow #s maybe some 0-20-20 miracle grow or something along those lines.

beautiful plants, way to go to get some nice lil producers :D 2 or 3 weeks from when you harvest id lay off on any nutes... let it dry out for a couple days... then soak the entire area tough with water.. to try to leach or flush out your soil and so your plants are uptaking water only and no nutrient buildup in your folliage. other than that im sure you dad has been doin this for quite some time and knows lots bout gardening. his plant looks lovely, my bushes are kinda the same situation as those genetics.. been around for a while.. and worked down from seeds from same lineage years in a row.

see ya round PM. Dime

be careful when adding nutes with so little time left in flowering.... i am paranoid about smoking chemicals in my tree and if it were me, i woudln't give that beautiful bush anything at all. if the leaves were yellow or the plant were not as healthy as it is i would recommend somthing but i think that girl will do nicely without any nutes at all

"Kush not Bush" should be the official phrase of the cannabis community....

Your plants are lookin terrific for being your first try at it. Great shots there too! I know what you mean about the spicey smells. I have to grow guerilla style, and with the rare visit today, i was happily reminded again of why i go through all this trouble. :D

Looks like you'll yield pretty well off those. Harvest is right around the corner.

Very healthy, impressive-looking bush. Nice work...that'll stuff a few glass jars, methinks!

Thanks for the lovely comments, friends. They are encouraging. I've been dreaming of plants and am really itching to find a way to do hydro here :D

Pipeline - You're totally right :D We had to buy the sweatshirt when we saw it. Thanks for the compliments.

and I hope so, NPK, I bought a 12 pack of big wide-mouth bell's just incase! :D Going to be LOTS of trim too (especially since I'm getting all the trim off of both my dad's plants.) Going to be making quite a bit of bubble....which i've never done...crap I better invest in the bags huh? :joint: If anyone has a good cheap method for processing lots of trim into bubble, please let me know!

More pics later, guys! I'll try to get reallly close with the camera on the some of the bigger buds :D
