The closet plant is another inch taller,..

If she grows about 3-4 inches taller, that would be perfect.

I decided to feed her half veg nutes at 850 ppm mixed with half bloom nutes at 1200 ppm.
I figure it's about time to start the switch, and maybe it will help to slow down her stretch and send her into flower?

More pictures,.. main cola.

The closet plant was getting a bit too close to the lights, so I decided to top it.

I may have taken off more than I needed to, but I wanted to make sure that she stops growing taller.

It sucks that I'm cutting off the very best part of whole plant, but she should fill in and I should end up with a nice big main cola.

The baby in the closet fell over, so I gave her a stake and twist tie.

I decided to top the window plant too.
She is big enough and I don't want her to get too unruly.

Some have claimed greater yield from nipping bud tops. Though it's almost certainly untrue. It does cause a thicker looking top though, as that potential to side-branch is present. At worst, it's 3 bud sites gone, and at best, these were going to give the plant stress by getting in the way. It's that bit about avoiding stress that could actually give weight to the idea of increased yield. Personally, I hack the tops off it needs be. It can serve the greater good. With a HID grow, excess evaporation through buds close to the light, gives feed accumulation. It can also trigger hermi tendencies. While keeping your lights higher than you might of otherwise. Which also stands here, where excess growth could force light placement you don't want.

You could of snapped it instead, but I guess you like the plants shape

I remember trying that before. I forget what it's called. The guys here on the forum were helping me do it.

It didn't work for me because I ended up breaking it the second time I did it and the top died.
What I didn't like was how it kept growing after I bent it over, so it's hard to know when to start doing it so that it ends up the proper height without hitting the lights.
I also didn't like how the main cola, or part of it, was growing sideways.
My closet is only 21 inches square and it would be hard to get the bent over cola to be centered at the top of the closet.

I remember the last time that I cut the top off, it completely stopped growing taller and just filled out sideways, so it worked great.
I could grow the plant to the exact height that I wanted it (minus the inch or so that I cut of) and I didn't have to worry about it getting any taller.

If this plant does grow taller, I don't know what I could do?
I can't raise the lights so I might have to cut off more of the top?, and that would suck because she probably will have filled in pretty good by then and I'd be wasting even more of the best part of the plant.

The remaining top of the plant is about 3½ inches from the lights. (the lights are about ½ inch lower than the wood that I measure from.)
I'll keep an eye on it and see if it gets any taller for future reference.

I don't really care much about the window plant. I'll just be giving it away anyway. I just want to keep it the size that it is.
If it gets too tall, it's hard to get the lights shining evenly around the whole plant.
Once the seedling gets planted outside I can use four extenders to shine around the plant with a single bulb in the middle shining down.

I'm sure she'll recover and give you two main buds instead of one, they usually do these sweethearts, like hydra.
Maybe the two will be as big as the original, separate or combined, chances are 50/50.

I'm pretty sure that they will combine and join up to make one big cola.
That's what happened before, and IIRC, I couldn't even tell that it had been topped?
The cola rounded out at the top as if it hadn't been topped. The buds filled it in.

I think you made the right choice topping both plants, it controls height which was running out and the lower buds will fatten up.

That's what I figure.
All the energy that would have gone to the top of the main cola just goes elsewhere.

Bending the top does work but it only slows the growth, and you have to do it several times.
It's really hard to judge when to start and how many times it needs to be done.

I sure hope that she will stop growing taller now. I'm going to be kinda screwed if she gets taller.

There are tons of other buds and colas left to fill in and fatten up,..

I planted the seedling so I rearranged the lights.
I LSTed the leaves and branches too. I'm kinda getting the hang of it.
I didn't break a single branch. lol

I decided to cut the top three leaves from the plant.
She's really close to the lights and those leaves are going to end up touching the lights.
I should have topped her half a day sooner, but I was sleeping. lol

I figure those leaves were probably going to touch the LED strips, and they were feeding the top of the main cola so the top flowers were more inclined to grow big and hit the strips.

It wouldn't be a big deal if something touches, but I didn't get the ceiling strips coated with that conformal silicone gell stuff.

If something touches my ceiling strips I might burn out segments of my strips.

I don't care about the plant, but I don't want to burn out my LED strips.

In fairness though, the guy that posted pictures of the burned out led strips may well have been running the strips at max and they would be hot as hell.

I only run my strips at test current. (half of max, but 10 times as many strips. lol) so they may be able to deal with plant contact?

I don't want to find out the hard way, so I will cut anything, at any point, if it's too close.

It's getting pretty hot in the closet.
We had a weather heat warning today. It's over 30°C

IMG_20220520_182123.jpg

My seedling may be having a heat related stroke. lol

Oh well,..
It's good to toughen them up early. lol
