Diary PCBuds mini-grow

Sampas92

Just newbin
I have grown a few big plants and things worked out pretty good with the method I was using.

All I needed to do was water with the right nutes at the right amount and I managed to avoid nute burn and deficiencies.

I could have all the lights on from the start, with them turned down at first and slowly turn them up.

But it didn't work with my last two plants, and I had to turn off the side lights to get this one to stretch.

I did do pretty good with LIFTA though and left the side lights off until she got quite tall.
I realize now that it was a mistake to wait that long, but I was afraid that she would just stop growing up if I turned them back on.

That's what I want to do.
I want to have her growing and stretching with well spaced nodes and no purple stems. (although I did have purple stems from start to finish on all my plants, except my current one.)

I figure that I can turn the lights up a bit when she has two full sets of leaves and starts to get nuted.

Yeah, and the first couple of weeks can make or break an auto.
I'll keep a real close eye on her especially at first and really watch her node spacing.

I'm still a newb and still do newb stuff. One extreme to the other.

And this stretch vs. lighting thing is new to me as well.

I did get my plant to stretch tall enough to fill the closet, but she's looking kinda spindly.

I think that I should be able to get at least 200 grams out of her if she continues to fluff up and fill in.

Maybe running the 35k strips will make them grow hard and a bit stretchy but not so stretch like that girl?

I just think that cab without light leaks would be awesome with photoperiods and clones, it would be "easier" instead of autos that can always be different from each other..

Dunno buds, i just know i want to see another monster in that cab :D

Peace :tiphat:

Read this today and it made me think of your plant.

Marschner's Mineral Nutrition in Higher Plants said:
Imbalances occur at high light intensity in general and particularly when high light intensity is combined with other environmental stress factors such as drought, low temperatures or nutrient deficiencies. Excess excitation energy depresses photosynthesis and quantum yield, which although usually reversible (dynamic photoinhibition), may also lead in the long term to irreversible damage of the photosynthetic apparatus which results in decreased maximum photosynthesis (chronic photoinhibition) as well as chlorosis and necrosis of the leaves (photooxidation)

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.
My only thought is that she might want to grow sideways?

I just realized too, that when I first started this plant, I had all the lights on and was getting a reading of 5000 LUX and when I turned off the side lights, I still got a reading of 5000 LUX, but that was only from above.

Before I turned off the side lights, I was getting a reading of 5000 LUX from above and from the sides all around the plant.

My seedling may have been getting 4-5 times as much light with the side lights on?

A seedling is supposed to get around 5000 LUX, but if it is getting light from all sides, maybe I should aim for a reading of 1000-2000 LUX?

It will still boil down to me watching the plant to see what she does.

That's true, and I have considered it.
But I've hesitated because I would have to install a light filter that would restrict air flow, so I would need to replace my fan with a blower to push the air through the closet.

My closet right now has free flowing airflow.
At times I turn off the exhaust fan because I don't need the extra flow.

My closet is failsafe.
If I have a fan failure in my closet, it will not overheat and kill my plant, burn out all my LED strips, and maybe burn down my house ?

It will get hot in there, but the top of the closet is open as well as the bottom so convection will carry the heat out.

I don't really mind dealing with potentially inconsistent Autoflower seeds.
I've got no consistency myself and it keeps me on my toes and always learning new stuff.

Autoflowers are a lot like my cat 🐈.

You never know what the hell she's thinking and you never really figure it out.

I don't mind my lack of control.
All I want to do is exert an influence.

My cat still bites me and my plant still pisses me off. Lol

Dunno buds, i just know i want to see another monster in that cab :D

Yeah me too, but I'm in the fortunate position to have more weed than I can smoke.
Even if I only get 100 grams off this plant, that's still plenty.

But if my plant croaks now, I might be in trouble ?

OK, I like that.
It all makes sense to me.
I probably permanently damaged my plant.

That's still OK with me though as long as I get about 100 grams from this plant.
(I'm kinda running low.)

I'm just wondering though,..

Is "dynamic photoinhibition" bro-science terminolgy for "turn down the lights" ?? Lol

" chlorosis and necrosis of the leaves (photooxidation) "

I'm pretty sure that's what this is ?

In all fairness though,.. I did know that this would happen and I did it on purpose, but I didn't realize that I would stunt a good majority of my plant.

She is still looking pretty good, but I know now that I won't be getting anywhere near a pound from her.

(If I get mold or bugs now, I'm not going to be happy. lol)

She's still got more than three weeks to go, so she might fill in ?

I figure that I'm working on a new growing technique.

I call it the "Stretch it then Scorch it" method of growing.

It's not very efficient, but it's a lot of fun !!

You don't just smoke it after harvest.
You smoke it pretty good while you're growing it too. Lol

I think that they would make great pets.
But don't piss them off.
They're pretty venomous. Lol

Incandescents for what man? They put out 8% of rated power in light and 92% in heat. Then the 8% is not even 50% PAR. 100W incandescent = smallest sil you can find, like 5-6W is better.

I used them to heat my closet during the winter.

I tried using a regular heater and the thermostat wouldn't work.

Like explo here says, even if they're not good for growing I still have a use for them during the winter, I just install them in the intake and turn them on during the cold time.
All my intakes are light/dust trap. :dance013:

I'm smoked up so I invaded you thread.. lol
It must been drunk from your homebrew, huh?
Yellow jackets and I are sworn enemies so I kill them every chance I've got and they never miss a chance to attack me, they allways do.
It's something about my chemistry that triggers them and that happened not only here in Europe, but EVERYWHERE.
Even if I'm pretty venom resistant I still don't like those stings.. Honey bees.. all other story, I catch them and have me stinged, venom shots I call them, I feel great afterwards and benefit from the (bee) venom. I do that since I was a kid.
I know, I'm a weirdo...

That's fine, I don't mind any posts.
There's not too much going on with my plant right now and my thread is one big run-on sentence anyway.
Lol

I figure it must be kinda wasted after doing the back stroke in my drink. Lol

They don't really bother me that much and only sting me when I don't see them and end up accidentally upsetting them.
I can shoe them away with my hand and they don't come back and attack.

There have been a bunch of cases where people have swallowed a yellow jacket, got bit in the throat and died. (the wasp crawled inside a coke bottle)
Their throat swelled up and they suffocated.

I figure that I was so close to drinking a wasp, and maybe ending up dead, that I should show my gratitude to it by rescuing it and setting it free.

Maybe if flew back to its hive and told all of his buddies how my drink was awesome, and how I rescued it, and that they should leave me alone because I'm pretty cool!!
I'm sure that there is a pheromone that could convey that message. Lol

Maybe they smell your fear and animosity towards them and go on the offensive?
Try being a little nicer to them. Lol

I've heard of that. They are using bee venom to try to treat some illnesses. (Lupus I think?)

I stung myself on purpose a few years ago to see what it felt like.
There was one on the palm of my hand, and I closed my hand on it until it stung me.
That really hurt.
It swelled up and hurt for 4-5 days.

I don't recall ever being stung by a honey bee.
Maybe I should go find a honey bee and give that a try. Lol

I'm weird too. Lol

I tried to take the same picture that I took 3 days ago to try to show the difference.

She is filling in, but it's a little hard to see.
