Hello guys,

As this is my first grow, so I don't have experince with this, I'm trying to finish a grow with pineapple express from barneys. So I started with a Tower PC case where I'm using an 150 HPS with cooltube. I have also 2 X 12cm cooler (one is trying to cool the cooltube and the other one is down in the case), and another 2 X 80 mm pc coolers (one is trying to cool the lamp~ is inside cooltube) and the one is for exhaust in the case's middle)
The problem is now temperature : when the pc is closed totally the temp inside is around 42 deg C, and if I let one door open I've got it around 29 ~ 30 deg C. What do you suggest ? Shall I put an a new cooler as exhaust(in the case's back ) for the cooltube air, because the cooltube window is untouchable and the case is heating on the back side. I will look forward for your suggestions. Pictures are in my album.

Hey dinu,
thats a nice looking stup you have there. 150w hps is alot for a pc case to cool... I cant tell from the pics but do you have your cool tube exhausting air outside of the case? How many exhaust fans do you have in the plant chamber? How large are your passive intakes?

Your best bet is to make sure air is moving in and out of your case as efficiently as possible so that you can place your hand on the cool tube w/out it feeling too warm.
Even still 150 watts generate alot of radiant heat.

If I had to guess I'd say 150w is probably a little too much for a case but that isnt to say you cant make it work w/ a little clever thinking...

Hey friends what's happening?

Been awhile but I'm gearing up to build a PC box. My last project a few years ago was a SDxOG cross and 250 watts of HPS. This time I'm going much smaller with some seeds from that grow.

I'm planning a full tower build with a standard ATX power supply that sits in the upper chamber, separate from the plants. I found a model with additional AC outlets so the lights simply plug into it. This eliminates the need for rewiring the fans and using bulky adapters and power strips.

I'm also incorporating a 5.25" drive bay fan controller and temperature monitor. Up to four fans plug into the controller directly and it has four temperature sensors that are mountable anywhere in the case. You can adjust the CFM of each fan and check the temperature all from the front panel. I'm not exactly sure how I'll configure them yet but I'm pretty excited about it!

For lighting I'd love to build a custom LED panel but it seems very complicated from the tutorials I've read. I wish there was a video explaining the process (or a "For Dummies" thread) because the DIY panels seem to get the best results.

Hey Dinu

Your set up looks very promising but a few suggestion if I may.

That cool tube will work but I would suggest that it be totally isolated from your "grow area". By that i mean you suck air from out side the Pc and exhaust it again directly out again. If it is suking air form inside the Pc it will be using air that is already "hot" to try and cool it and this will only get worse when you try and filter the exhaust with a carbon filter later. Then off coarse you will need a seperate exhaust for the grow chambers that will have the carbon filter on that. Does that make sence??

That way you can have unrestricted air flow over the tube with a big fan or 2 to cool it.

If you have any queries let me know and I'll try and help, and check out my old Pc grow (in my albums) for inspirations.....

Cheers Johnny:gday:

Hello all this is my first pc Grow, wanted to share with you guys!

Temp is stable at 75-80, dependent on time of day. Humidity around 40-50%.

I have 5 fans. 2 exhaust and 2 intake 1 for air circulation inside the case. I'm using a Truair carbon scrubber and ONA gel for odor later on.

Soil is Gardener's Gold Organic Soil with perlite mixed in, a pH of about 6.5. With Dyna-bloom/grow nutes, and Dr. Earth Organic Teas. Inside is lined with mylar.

Lights are 3, 6500K for veg at 26 watts each and 3, 2700K for flowering at 23 watts each. I have yet to completely lightproof the box, but I will be running 20/4. Lights will be off at night as well.

Any advice / tips are welcome to my case. I plan on LST'ing my auto easy ryders, as height is going to be an issue. I think I will only have 7-8 inches of grow room max. This grow will be for only 1 plant at a time as well.

So I decided to finally germinate my easy ryder seed and it sprouted today!!

about 1 cm in height. one of the cotyledons seem to be curved down, but I am guessing that it's due to its recent sprouting up from the soil? I hope that is the case and there is nothing wrong with the seedling. Any thoughts on why that one cotyledon is curved downwards like that? Is my assumption correct?

I thoroughly watered and drained an hour before planting the seed, so I'm going to wait till the top two inches of the soil dries out to water it again.

any advice/input appreciated!

My Grow Journal - Easy Ryder 1st ever PC GROW:

3/28/2012: Wet paper towel method of germination has begun. Fully watered and prepared the planter and drained with pH balanced water.

3/30/2012: Observed Germination and taproot has appeared, planted into pot. Saran wrapped planter. Temperature varies from 77-81 degrees Fahrenheit.

4/01/2012: Sprout has come up for the first time from the soil about 1/4''. Removed saran wrap. Checked soil, top 2 inches still fairly moist. Will water when top 2 inches becomes dry. Temperature with door closed is 75F with 43% R/H.

I wouldnt worry too much. :joint:
The first set of leaves is what I look for. Sometimes the plant can be stunted or the cotyledons can be warped given how the seedling sheds it's shell. IMHO when your sprouting seedlings you want a wrm/humid enviroment but don't need to have them so close to the light. Im sure some people will tell you differnent. When your seedling gets a little bigger, then bring it up to the light. For seedlings, too much light is not always a good thing.
Another note- When plants are older in veg and flower it is important to let the soil dry out.
On fresh seedlings I never let my soil tops to dry out completely. seedlings have such a weak root system when starting and its easy to dry them out. You want the roots to search for water in soil but have all they needs.

Ah I see, thanks for the input MagicChef. I'll take your words into consideration. appreciate it.

Hey, what would you prefer as growing area (I mean really the space the plants have) for a PC scrog? I an unsure where to mount my flat carbon filter, which is about 7.8inch*7.8inch and 3.1inch thick.

Above the lamps or on the back (inside)??
The case is 24inch high and 15inch deep. So rather losing 4inch in height, or losing 4inch in depth?

I was almost sure to mount it on top, but then realized that all the air would have to pass the lamps (PLL), which would leave to room for a decent reflector...
