Going to post my PC grow attempt (first grow) soon. Had some frustrations building it, but finally got it done, now I just have to fix light leaks. Anyway, thanks ICmag for inspiring to supply my own. :p

I've recently joined IC and have started working on my own pc grow box, this may not be the place to post this question, but is there any advantage to using 2700k and 6500k 20w lights @ the same time?
My plan is to start with bagseed of unknown strain in a pc case with 2 20w cfl's @6500k and 2 20w cfl's @ 2700k. I intend on a 12/12 light cycle from start. My box will have 2 intake fans and 2 exhaust fans. I may have 4 lights each to change out from veg to flowers if needed.

:eggnog: thanks for any info in advance.:thanks:

Any way this is my first try at a light proof air vent, made of flat cardboard with Z shape fin's. It did work 100% for the light but cut my air flow to less than 1/2 of what it was.

This is the same vent after I removed half of the Z fin's, This didn't work out to well as I now had light coming thru, the air flow was better, but the light was unacceptable, so I'll try to make one again I think a bit wider and put some fin's back in with spacing somewhere in between my last go around, maybe use V fin's also. :xmasnut: :xmastree:

This is the old light baffle box I was using before I made the light vent. I just for the time being added a bit more lenght to the inside baffle and turned in back some the end result was near 100% light filtering and lots of air flow. But it's a little big and funny looking mainly because it started out being just a fan hood and I kept adding on to it, to become what it is now above. It'll work for now but I will take another stab at making a light proof vent. :eggnog: :xmastree:

Hey all! Im currently building a PC for scrog and I have modified the case to accommodate a DWC res. I dont have light setup yet as Im not sure if Im going with PL-L or CFL at the moment, and I still dont have most of the DWC setup. I am planning on having 2 plant sites on the res shown. *I guess I wanna know if you guys think this will work. Thanks!

looks very clinical! nice. you should be able to fit 3 36w pll or 3 24W pll which would give you more room to house carbon filter and fans entirely inside the pc. plls are still CFLs and you will need very good ventilation to do this right.

Thanks for the input and kind words everybody! Hey Scrubninja, thanks for the chart. Ive been looking for something like that! It looks like the 36w (16")PL-L will fit fine but Ill need two ballasts for 3 PL-L's?? I have a few medium base sockets lying around and 2 or 3 40w screw type CFL's (2700k I think). I might just use screw type CFL for the first run.

Going to wally-world today to get the rest of my DWC setup:D Thanks again!

No worries guys. Those were Osram, and these are Philips.

You'll notice Philips only go down to 3000k, if that's of issue to you. I picked up 2 ballasts which will run a total of 4 x 36w PLs for ~30 bucks (AU) delivered. Osram bulbs go for about 13 bucks AU each. All on ebay.

And lulz, no wheelie bin vert grows!!! :angrymod:

24w vs 24w:

(The cfl was near new and the pll was clapped out ftr) They make a whole ton of sense for PC grows. Peace.

I havent looked on ebay for Pl's & ballasts, Ill check it out. You and Aerohead have me sold on the PL-L's lol. They are hands down the way to go in small spaces.
Should I go with something warmer than 3000k for flower? A mix of 3000k & like 6400k? should be good enough for the full run no?

Scrub, you might know the answer to a question I have about DWC for micro. I threw this out on realistiks PC scrog thread today as well, so sorry if Im being redundant. 1-1/2 gallon DWC w/ 2 plants. can this work? Res will also require submersible heater during winter months; taking up even more space.
Also, what is your opinion on using foam collars instead of netpots and hydroton for full term(same res w/ 2 plants). possible or not?
I guess my goal with the collars instead of netpots would be to allow for more water in my res since its already so small.

Any inpu ton this will be helpful. Thanks!

Hey bro I have no experience with DWC sadly. Not a whole lot of flower lighting experience either but I'm slowly understanding more and more. As far as I'm aware it's the same as cfl or any fluoro in regards to kelvins so 3000k is fine and like you said maybe a 6500k in there too, but generally I'd do whatever you (or others) had success with in cfl terms. The 2700k definitely is not necessary as both my grow and the high-pod used 4000k for flower, and I even supplemented with a 6500k cfl and a 10,000k pll! So I would say something like 2 x 3000k and 1 x 5000k would be great. If you really really want to get down to business, look up the bulbs super_pedro uses.

How many ballasts you need will depend on the ballast itself. Mine is only capable of powering 2 36's each ballast, but I think some will power 3 probably. Mine says on it what it'll run (also powers 2x36w t8 fluoros)

Don't forget to allow for the socket/base which the bulb plugs into - I'm not certain exactly, and different models etc, but I'd allow an inch or more for that, and so you can actually remove or insert the bulbs.

Best'o'luck. These are the best fluoros you'll get. :smokeit: I read last night that a dude on GC pulled .8gpw and knna was hitting that some time ago too.
