Came home to some more dead leaves on my biggest IC girl--she's losing fans because she's rootbound. Everything put out fresh pistils while I was gone. I really need to find my loupe. They're still sparkly, which to me indicates a good portion of clear trichs. They're taking forever, but are continuing to fill out and swell. They smell great too; rubbed a couple of buds and then washed my hands (with soap) and I can still smell the Ice Cream's funk!
Eleven weeks since flip now...they took a while to get going because of the age of the mom, but they're definitely getting close!
EDIT: Found a loupe, so I'll do a trich check later. I should've hit them with more compost before I left; that really got them stanking! The smell is almost all gone now (unless I give them a shake), which is of course in part due to the new scrubber.
Harvested the top of my oldest Ice Cream girl today; maybe 12g when dry? Dense, sticky, stinky stuff. More dank than sweet Ice Cream, but there is a hint of that Indian ice cream goodness still there. I took it down now because there were dead/yellowing leaves and I didn't want to have to pluck out dead leaves later, or risk rot!
The Ice Cream is easier to trim than the autos were, but gummed my scissors up very quickly. I tried some scissor hash and found myself rearing to go! I got a lot done! Love it!
As for trichs around 10-20% are still clear, so I'll wait until Dec 1st and take down the Ice Creams. The skunk looks like it'll need more time as it's still around 50% clear. The buds are nice and chunky...I'm happy. Definitely a better yield than the autos!
Yup, the buds were much denser than I expected. I like it! It's only the top 8" or so of the main cola on the plant; there is quite a lot of bud on the main stem below it. I could be wrong about my approximation, but I'll have to get some brown paper bags so I can separate each plant for a better yield estimate.
Looks like the one gallon Smartpots were only large enough for the plants that were flowered immediately; the largest had 1-2 weeks of veg and are thoroughly rootbound by the looks of it!
This stuff gums up my scissors soooo quickly! I'm giving everything a nice, close trim. I took one of the smaller tops off the original Ice Cream mom today. This top DOES smell like kulfi (Indian saffron and pistachio ice cream). Dying/purpling leaves on this one too. I'm taking anything that is starting to yellow out and leaving the rest. Looks like I need to take a lot of the skunk now too.
Just scraped my scissors, made a little ball in my palm and placed it on the blade of a knife. The hash bubbled under a flame and I inhaled the vapor. I'm really baked. It tasted great and the smoke smelled like the best Moroccan hash!
Taken a few more yellowing upper buds. This stuff just stinks of good hash!
EDIT: Made a horrific discovery earlier. I use a little mini-cooler type thing to store my seed collection in. Well, I smelled something burning and realized it was the little fridge. Stuck my hand in it and the glass jar was hot to the touch. Not uncomfortably so, but definitely not what I was expecting. I have rice in the jar to absorb moisture, and I could smell warm rice when I opened the jar. I had hundreds of dollars worth of seeds in there--no idea if they're still good. I'll have to try and germ those Satoris to see if they're any good.
I don't know, but the instructions said not to use it continuously. My brother said he'd used one for years without issue. FML. Well, they may still be good, or they may be birdseed...I won't know until I try to germ them! My entire seed collection was in the jar.
I'm glad I took those Skunk and Ice Cream clones now!
Well, this is my first time growing from clone, and interestingly the plants are finishing at different times. Some really do smell like cardamom and saffron ice cream http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Kulfi-(Indian-Milk-Ice-Cream) and others have a more skunky Afghani funk to them. The skunk just smells good and wholesome, like a Flintstones vitamin or something (I used to pop em like candy when I was a kid...oops). Everything is sagging under the weight of the buds, so I've had to adjust and stake a few more.
The skunk is still pretty airy with lots of yellowing leaves and lots of white pistils. Maybe I should feed it? The little skunk bud that I accidentally lopped off when switching carbon filters is excellent. Just a really pleasant, up high with some body, but VERY funky and very resinous when crumbled. Good shit. I love classic skunk. This stuff smells like the Skunk I had in Amsterdam, but much sweeter.
The Ice Creams are doing just fine. I've been relishing the scissor hash from trimming. I've taken down about 1/3 of the overall yield. Lots to go yet. I'm guessing around 4-5 oz. I'm only using half of the tent, so that's around 0.25 g/W. 0.5g/W would've been a good yield considering the plants were heat stressed and some finished at 14" or so. I may just grow a few larger ones this time to let the tent fill up some.
Two plants each in two five gallon Smartpots should give me a significantly better yield, as long as they get some veg time. I need to clean my place and tent up before the next round though.
Temperatures and humidity are both great right now--going to save a ton on air conditioning since it's nice and cool. All I have to do is crack a window!
Since I haven't been adding organic matter, it looks like all my springtails have jumped ship. I think I should have hit the largest plants with another worm castings/compost/sugar/diastatic malt top dress two weeks ago. Ah well!
Tried a little Ice Cream nug yesterday...whew! Cut right through the high I already had going from a little auto nug I smoked before it. The Ice Cream is potent stuff. Even sans cure, it smoked well and was tasty and burned to a white ash. Extremely smooth smoke and it did taste a little like Ice Cream on the inhale. If my Satoris don't pop, I'll run another cycle of Ice Cream.
I fed the remaining 2.5 girls with a little EWC and compost, more to see if it would stop the yellowing and dying leaves. Next run, I will keep the EWC and compost feeds up since they are mild and do such wonders for root health. The springtails crawled right back into the soil from under the pot. I was happy to see them! I feel bad that I killed so many of them when they were actually doing good things for my plants. I think I hurt my yield a little by stopping the applications four weeks before harvest. The larger and older plants seemed to need it to keep their roots healthy.
The feed made the plants REEK to high hell. You know it's working when a light application makes my place smell fucking amazing!
Took most of the lower branches off the Skunk today. Low calyx to leaf ratio on the Skunk, but it's already proven to have a very nice, up high that leaves me blissful, and it smells like canteloupes and Johnson's baby powder. I love this stuff, but the Ice Cream is so much easier to manicure! Had some scissor hash from the skunk too...good stuff!
Because of the low calyx-to-leaf ratio on the skunk, I'm going to lower my estimate to 3.5 oz. The Ice Cream buds I've taken so far have already dried down to around 75g, less than 3 oz. :/
This is one stinky crop. I get a little woozy off the funk!
Lessons learned: watch the heat, remove all dead/yellowing leaves when trimming, don't buy cheap scrubbers and when growing organic with EWC/compost, keep the applications up if you want your plants to stay healthy!
Just got my tail kicked by some skunk scissor hash. Good stuff, great flavor and nice and potent
