Hey everyone. Im a realitively new grower (med card) and I have a few threads spread here and there but wanted to start a single, consolidated thread so that I could get some help along the way and get some suggestions here and there. Currently I need some help on cloning... I have some cuttings in rockwool but first, let me show you what I got going on.

The equipment:

4'x2' SJ DR120W for veg/moms with a 4' x 6 bulb hydrofarm T5
3'x3' SJ DR90II for flower with a lumatek 400.
Super sun II aircooled hood.
Each tent has its own 424 cfm vortex on a fan controller (way overkill I know)
Phresh filter 6"x20"
Promix ammended with perilite, EWC, blood, bone, kelp, greensand and lime
3 gallon square pots.

Currently in my mom tent I have blue widow, Sweet tooth #3, AK47, Deep Chunk x Sour Diesel, super skunk, and jackberry.

First up is blue widow, sweet tooth #3 and AK47. They are in 1 gallon containers soon to be transplanted into 3 gallon containers and moved into the flower tent. My soil is cooking so Ill let them be another two weeks or so if I can hold off that long.

I have two Blue widows gals, one of which Ill be choosing a mom and three sweet tooth #3 females that Ill be picking the best pheno of to keep as a mother. Then I have a single AK 47 mom that Ill keep going as well.

Heres the loaded tent as it sits today:

So nowthat you've seen the mature plants I need your help.... Im uncertain about my clones taking. Heres my clones that I took. I took one of each plant (7 total) on October 3rd, then a took a second cutting off each plant yesterday. I PH'd water to 5.0, soaked the rockwool cubes, took the cuttings and dipped them in rooting powder, then into the cubes.

I have them under the humidity dome. My main concern is Im not sure how often to water the cubes to keep them moist. How wet is too wet, and how dry is too dry. I would like to use one clone from each plant as my new moms, and flower out the current mothers. However, Im scared to start flowering out my adult plants without seeing roots yet. Ive never cloned before so Im not sure that they will take. You guys think I should go ahead and start flowering the mature ladies and trust that Ill get at least one of each to take or should I wait for roots?

The clones pictured on the right are the ones taken from Oct 3. The ones on the left from yesterday. You can see a few that were taken yesterday are wilting over.

Any suggestions??

How are ya doin' OZZ_?

Really keen to see how the blue widow turns out here. Sweet tooth plant B is my favourite of your three ST varieties. Just beautiful deep green indica leaves. I guess I'm biased as I love only indica dom phenos though!

Can't see the pics from post #4 but I'm sure your flowering tent is all ready to go too.

About your clones, I would just be lifting the humidity dome up once every few days and just misting the clones with a sprayer. This should keep the rockwool cubes more than moist enough. I don't know if you mentioned this or not but cutting the growing tip of a clone you wish to take on an angle rather than a straight cut will give you more success as the angle cut leaves more of a surface area for the clones to make roots.

Being that the clones are in the most delicate phase of their life cycle right now, you DO NOT want to disturb them too much. Poking and prodding the rockwool cubes to check for moisture will only decrease the chance of rooting. The humidity dome will retain enough moisture for them to flourish if you leave it down and let them do their thing.

Also don't worry about flowering your mature plants now for fear that your clones might not take. This does not matter because if the ones you have taken now don't root, you can keep cloning the mature plants all throughout their flowering cycle no worries! If the clones you take during the flowering cycle already have a few pistils coming up then you might just have to leave them for a few weeks under 24/0 for them to revert back to the veg cycle but they will be fine after that. I say go for it my man, bring on 12/12!

PS. If you have a spare minute, feel free to check out my current grow too!

Looks great.

ST#3 was my favorite...many years ago outdoors (hence my member name). ^^B does look great! Had two pheno's though and one was a lighter fruitier pheno that was something pretty special.

Cant wait to see your blue widow as well. Got four blue widows running now. They are very forgiving and have been a pleasure to grow.

Good luck, ozz

Thanks guys.

ST - these blue widow have been the same! They are bulletproof and don't seem to care at all... about anything. Their leaves are always pointing up at the sky and their stalks are THICK. SWT B is the same way! SWT. A and C are somewhat more finicky I've noticed drooping leaves here or their if the moisture wasn't quite right.

Penguin .... Im not sure the humidity dome is enough. If I spray before I go to work when I get home the lid is bone dry. I spray twice a day to keep the humidity up.

Im new to rockwool so maybe my judgment is off but it seems like it got to dry. I re-wetted the cubes a bit as it just seemed to dry... but as I mention maybe Im just misjudging. Im worried about flowering these girls out and having the clones not take.

In the next few days/week Ill get them re-potted and put in the flower tent though, Hopefully by then that should be long enough to know if the first batch of cuttings have rooted.

Heres the pics of my tents again, Im not sure why they arent showing. Weird.

I'm going to run 6 plants in three gallon containers. They are all about 10-12" now and have been topped at the fourth or fifth node.

Love the setup OZZ_, I wouldn't mind a tent for veg too.

Can't help you on the clones as I have tried to clone in peat pellets, rapid rooters, and those plugs you're using and I can never get them to root, EVER. The peat pellets and rapid rooters always mold on me... don't know why, even with good air flow. I've tried dome, no dome, fan, no fan, light up high, light down low... never fails to FAIL!

The only success i've had cloning is straight into pro-mix in beer cups, and using a bubble cloner(which is what I use currently).

Looking forward to the grow.

Funny you say that.... the only cutting I've gotten to root was in promix. The ak mom pictured above in fact. If these rockwool cubes don't take I'm going to try straight soil.

Nice clean and neat setup ..I like when people have clean grow setups ..I'm a neat freak myself

I think u can prolly get 8 plants in the 3x3 and sill have enough room ..I flower in a 4x2 with 12 3 gallon bags ..taller plants in the back shorter in front ..

Cloning ..I never used peat pellets ..rooters ..rock wool ..
All I do is take a good size cutting ..hormone ..then right into beer cups ..the trick is to get the soil really moist but not drowning and a nice warm area and a slight breeze ..simple and effective for me

i get 100% success with this method: grab a sheet of rapid rooters, a tray, dome, and an insert to put into the tray to hold the cubes(i like the cone shaped ones). Dont get the plugs as they suck ass and are not as porous as the sheet of squares. grab a bread knife and cut along the dotted lines for however many you need. Then get some bottled water and a pyrex dish that will fit in the microwave and put ur cubes in it and fill with bottled water. Next press them into the water till the air bubbles come out(dont have to get them all, just so there completely soaked an absorb as much as possible). then nuke them for 4-5 minutes. Now get your razor an scissors an clean them with alcohol and a spoon cleaned also. Clean a plate with alcohol as this will be your sterile field. Put a good amount of lets say Clonex(this is what i use) onto the spoon. Get the cubes an drain them an lightly press while your doing so to get a little water out, but not too much as this moisture will be good for upto 2 days. Get your scissors and cut your cutting off the plant then use the razor to get a 45 degree cut an immediatly dip it in your cloning gel. Grab a cube, flip it upside down and pierce it not in the middle but to the side a lil bit(this reates more contact). Grab your cut and stick it in the slit you created, then into the tray insert in the tray and immediatly mist. Repeat process till done and then spray the inside of the dome before putting on. Keep it closed an spray the cuts not the medium for 2 days every 6 hours. After 2 days spray the cubes from the top and cut back on the leaf spraying and only spray the dome as it drys up. Dont spray the cubes for another 2 days unless your using a heat mat that can cause you to have to wet more often.

Hope this helps, like I said I never loose cuts with this method and it took me a while to get this process down. Main thing is to be sterile as possible an do.t spray or water them with tap, use a bottle of water( I grab a gallon of arrowhead.)

get a 6500-6400K bulb. The one your using will root them, but you will have faster and better success with the blue cfl's.

What kind of lighting are you keeping them under? Im thinking of taking some more tonight straight to plain promix. Wonder if I can get away with putting them on the floor of the veg tent under the T5's or if it would be too much light. They would be like 24" away from the bulbs so I wouldn't think that would be too much?

Arthritis- thanks for the input. The second batch have all went to hell on me.... but the first batch is holding strong still. I'm going to take some tonight and go straight to soil just so I have a back up set going. If all of the above fail on me ill give your method a try. The only time I put one in soil it took so I'm gonna give it a shot.

Like I said though the first batch is still standing up tall for me and look healthy. I'm hoping to see roots by Friday. That would be 9-10 days that they've been cut so I should have roots by then I would think.

Crossing my fingers. Cloning is the last skill I need to perfect in order to really put up some good grows. I've got my soil mix perfected, my worm bins rockin, and the plants love me when they are rooted. Just gotta get this cloning thing down and ill be ready to rock.

looking good . i had all kinds of problems cloning in the beginning. i like soil to clone in with extra perlite. i have tried every other method. plus with soil and good sized cups i can take really big clones if i want too.and its dirt cheap lol

Gracias .... ya I'm going to take some tonight and pit them straight to soil and see how it goes. I do think my first set in rockwool is going to take. At least their still holding strong as of now. The second set I took in rockwool all took a shit on me tho so I want another set taken before I put these girls in flower ... just to be safe.

What kind off hormone are you using?

Also... how are you maintaining them? Humidity dome? Lighting?
