oxigenated water

I use tap water run thru my faucet water filter. I usually fill a gallon jug 1-2 days before my scheduled watering day. Today i added some mollases and on a whim hooked up an air stone and air pump to help agitate and mix the molasses and water together. It started me wondering if the oxigen mixed water would be a benefit to my plants on its own or am i just spinning my wheels. Since I let the water sit for a day or 2 i figure it is probably pretty flat.

Indeed. I let my air stones bubble my water while it sites fro 24-48 hours even without my twice a week ferts in them. I don't know if it helps, but it certainly cant hurt, I mean it really isn't going to hurt them and u already have a bubbler... so why not bubble the water that sits in between ur feedings? Mabye it helps cycle the chems that need to evaporate and u get a more "rich" h2o...

ok guys, sorry to sound overly facescious (and underly literate) but of course bubbling your water is good. why dont you try reading a post or two before you ask? it seems every organic tea thread talks about bubbling

Wow.... geeze... Sorry for wasting your time. Of course I dont know anything.. BUT i assumed bubbling in teas was used as a mixing agent not to oxigenate water. I resent the implication that I havent tried to find this answer on my own.. Actually I read every post in this forum and also the indoor forum. I am on a quest for knowledge in a friendly atmosphere.. At least thats what I had hoped. Thanks for your positive input.. I will think twice before I post a question again..

Bleh just ignore him. I am not going to search through thousands of posts to get this answer. If things aren't sticky and at the top then I will feel free to ask anything I see fit. I read a lot but it is pointless to sit here and search for an hour to find out a simple answer, not to mention the fact that new poeple including refugees have not had the chance to respond to such threads and probably feel intimidated by poeple like this bumping a two year old thread.

Read on and ingore the grumpy comments!

 Hey Dan ,thanks for asking , I was wondering the samething. So wich one would be better submergable or setup pump outside???

i just use a cheap aquarium pump and airstone.. i suspend the airstone inside my water jug and let it go overnight. When i make a tea i use a bucket and a separate airstone.. even using a tea bag the molasses seems to muck up the airstone. When i finish i run it in clean water to clean it.

Good luck.. i have a few pet stores around here.. but walmart had the best prices for pumps and stones. You can also get a splitter so you can run two stones off one pump.

Dissolved Oxygen

:hotbounce

It's the amount of oxygen disolved in water and it's the result of movement and distrubing the surface of the water.
Water has something called surface tension which lead to an invisible layer of bonding arounds it's surface, it's the force that causes water droplets and why a belly flop hurts like hell.
A river or waterfall has a high DO count, a swamp where the water is still will have a very low DO count.
Which would you rather drink and why?
The high DO water of course because it harbours the least amount of harmful bacteria, it is fresh (or was once upon a time...).
Beneficial root zone bacteria are anearobic and roots also require O2, think of hydro plants which are solutions with bubbled air running through them.
So a tea is bubbled to encourage aerobic bacteria to develop, so it stands to reason that bubbling water will also increase DO and immediately be benficial to soil as opposed to stagnant water .
As a bonus a 24hr bubbling of water will remove traces of chlorine in the water which kills any form of bacteria, do this with water before making a tea.

I have to agree that with no sticky's any question is a good quetion,
it's better to ask than to give up looking for the ?

^^^ What Suby said exactly.
If you are going to give the plants ONLY water, I'd still bubble it an hour or two to dissolve oxygen into it. It's better for the roots.

oxigenated water and teas give nice boost. growing in soil you sometimes need to let soil dry out so that roots get whatever they require from air. Using oxigenated water can help to escape stress assosiated with dry/wet periods. It almost becomes hydroponics.

anyone know what a good air pump/stone combo would be from wal mart? i'll be using it in a 5 gal bucket.

little cheapo one or something more substancial?

Big-Toke says that the oxiginated water is a VERY big part of his hydro systems. He puts his return 1ft above the bottom of his resevore so it has to drop (like a waterfall) on its way back.

Good question.
