they'll just go around your enclosure if they really want to. If you have a healthy enough plant and give your plants enough water , gophers aren't really a problem...they don't really like to mess around in moist soil at least in my experience....I also water some of my plants with 115 gallons per day.

Im cooking up some 800-1000 gallon gopher proof enclosers I can build giant mounds inside of.

we made our baskets with hardware cloth, works great, gophers don't stand a chance, and less than half the price of a 800gal smart pot.

@schrews-Thats exactly what I was thinking.

@b.y.f.- the gophers around my house are the worst ive ever seen anywhere, and so damn many. I put 2 plants in ground in 2011 as testers. One got eaten and I had to battle them daily to keep the 2nd alive.
Just unlucky i guess.

Water attracts gophers. It tells them where growing plants are. Every gopher you see, kill it if you can. They are like rabbits, and multiply very quickly. Get a cat, it helps. Don't plant anything without wire protection, or you will loose plants period. Good luck with those bastards, I am fighting a huge war with them right now also.

Getting towards that time of not much sleep again. I deal with thieves every year (bad location coupled with a hard-drug infested county and High school punks driving by everyday) and I stay up all night
long. Ive learned to deal with it. I have military issue night visions goggles, i see them before they see me. Doused 2 of them with bear mace last year.

Hope all is well for the icmag family. Ive been sleeping during the day, working/guarding at night. Midnight to 4:30 am I do bodyweight exercises, stretch and read on the roof. Stopped one group of
rippers so far. Nothing too exciting, racked the 12 gauge as they were about to climb my fence. I used to let them climb over and then bear mase or shoot them with paintballs. Last year they broke a section of my fence trying to get out. Now i stop them before they get the chance to climb over. Ive only had one
person that I ever thought I might use lethal force against, they came alone and had a pistol. Other than that its usually teenagers that scare off easily.
