orient express

Ive posted on the other two Ace strains threads im growing so it would be rude to not include the Orient Express. Day 23 flowering 11/13 after 30 days veg.

For interest the middle pic is a fasciated stem, I should take it off, the bud will be really weird and it increases mould chances a bit, but Im going to leave it for now.

They arent yellow, te pics under the light do that!

I grew out an older fem seed this fall and she has been stabilized in the jar for a couple of weeks. A great smoke, and she is living up to my memories.

Buds are sticky when you break them up. Aromas of sweat socks, barnyard, cheese, fresh hay and floral spices that linger nicely on your fingers for several minutes. I love how aromas cling to your finger tips and you can enjoy them as they fade and change. Often they reveal layers of aromas that weren't obvious at first. The sweat socks and locker room is the first thing you get here. Then it changes to old lady mothballs, and finally floral and slightly citrus smells. All fleeting but enjoyable. :)

Anyway, Orient Express smokes sweet and the high is very gentle and uplifting. A really nice early evening choice.

I chopped my two Orient Express today at just under 10 weeks. Really heavy buds that are extremely sticky, lots of foxtailing in the last third of flowering. Aroma is tangerine and moss with some kind of rotting. This was a fun grow. The pollen sacs appeared just after flip and once removed never came back. In the future I'm going to lower the light intensity for the first few days of flower and see if that helps avoid this. I should have a small amount of feminized seeds and I kept a cut of the more promising plant. Will get back with a smoke report in a few weeks.

Glad you noticed the few pollen sacs in early flowering @gedLang i apologize for that. It's an old strain that i have the feeling doesn't like much LEDs, try aslo don't overfeed at that stage and don't use flowering stumulators. Nonetheless, i'm very happy you continued with the grow, both plants were quite alike and produced lovely, high yielding sativa dom resinous colas, hope seed found is minimal and quality high, thanks for sharing your experience with us, enjoy your well deserved flowers 🙏

Got my orient In with some white chapel and a Purple Heart from irie genetics. Doing a hybrid/indica runs this year, hoping to find something the lady likes. I will put in the orient and the yunnan female or with them to have things to compare. 😊

An update from day 36 flowering. Still some nute issues from all three strains...which I am sort of on top off.
Im surprised how slender and tall the OE's are, to the point Im wondering if I have made a labelling mistake...the malpans are much squatter.....hmmmm.

An update from day 46. Still haven't got the feeding right, but its going ok. The buds much airier than the Ka5h and the malxpan.....but probably more of it. They look to me like they will finish 11 weeks at the earliest even under 11/13, but thats ok the Ka4h looks like it will be 13 or more.

Hi @Sativa1978 Both are well grown and good looking sativa dominant expressions, leaning toward the sativa and high yielding Vietnam Black side of the hybrid. Although OE flowers don’t generally get as dense as Malawi x Panama or Killer A5 Haze, these sativa dom OE expressions still produce a lot in very voluminous colas.

Could you show a picture under natural light to better see the issue you mentioned?

Cheers @dubi, ill try it could be difficult though, that room doesnt get much natural light.

Yes you can see how much airyer the OE buds are, but bag appeal, smell, even yield are all very much secondary for me, effect is really king.

On that, the most social and up strain I ever smoked was FDMS version of ESB, Oldtimers cross between blueberry and his ES, which (ES bred from what he called a Nigerian Skunk.) Do you know much about that Nigerian Skunk, have you worked with anything similar?

And thanks for the work you do, the strains you work with are right up my street, and from my experience so far, the strains are doing exactly what you claimed they would, and despite all my feeding errors are so vigorous. Im going to be very pleased with the outcome, despite knowing they could have done much more with better care. In my defence....Ive never grown with LEDS before, haven't grown at all in three years, haven't grown in soil before, and haven't used biotabs before.......so a lot has been new!

After a couple weeks of drying and a couple weeks of curing, here is my smoke report on the two feminized Oriental Express plants I grew this winter.

Yield was 7 ounces in a 200 watt 2x4. There were some pollen sacs right at flip on one plant that released pollen, so I knew I would have some seeds but I only found about 20-30 during processing, which is kinda perfect. Most buds don't have any but I still have plenty of seeds for myself. Flavor is great, it's like bitter orange peel or maybe tangerine, with a hint of something rotting on one plant and a hint of perfume on the other. Very enjoyable flavor that coats the mouth when vaping.

The effects of both plants are mild. I would guess both are CBD dominant with maybe 2-4% THC. The high is clean and clear with no dullness or confusion. It has a low ceiling, so when I vape .25 gram it feels about the same as when I vape 1 gram. It's not possible to get wasted or very high but there is a nice calm head-focused high that lasts about an hour. No crash whatsoever and does not leave me wanting to chase the high. If I do use more after it has worn off, I go right back to the same high again.

I enjoy this flower but would have liked to get a pheno that was more THC dominant with more powerful effects. I'll try again some day, but for now I have some Ethiopian and Honduras x Panama in the flowering tent.
