Amazing plants Hellgrammite! :tiphat: They devoured the greenhouse!

Hi Lugnu!I grow in a very humid greenhouse-like room where mold can really eat everything and I just finished an OE x NJ ,seemed pretty resistant to me.Indoors I've never had an OE get mould .Also,Orfeas had stem rot on one of his OE and after cleaning it, it managed to heal and finish without problems, while some other plants around it got it really bad.Hope it helps!

That is a very informative treat, took me a long time to read all the posts, very nice.
I am a outdoor grower and bought a pack of Orient Express x Nepal Jam seeds for my next outdoor season.
Now when I read the lasts posts from you Hellgrammite00 I am very concerned about my project. I live here in Atlantic Canada with sometimes rainy and for sure humid weather. I have to pick strains with a good resistant to fungus and mold. How was the weather during your outdoor grow ?

Lugnu,

The orient express I found to be one of the better plants resistant to mold, but it is still vulnerable to it. Obviously my plants got very large, and with that comes the chance for mold since their are a ton of bud sights. The trick is to stay vigilant, and get in the habit of spending 5 to 10 minutes a day into flower to make sure there is no mold. If you catch it right away, and cut it out, you can still have a great harvest down the line. I plan to grow a little later so the plants stay more manageable in size (avoid using a ladder.)

Although buds do not like very humid weather, the Orient Express overall does. I recommend usually compost/soil mix, and be sure to have lots of nitrogen in there, since the plant even in flower is a nitrogen monster. My best plant had little to no budrot, loved humid weather, and produced big juicy buds. It all depends on the variations in the seeds.

We had a very humid and rainy fall, and I still harvested pounds from those plants. Granted it was mostly early harvested, but more sativa potent than what most people have in the area.

The smoke(vape) is quite nice. Very earthy with nice little sweetness to it. The herbal, almost rosemary taste on the back-end is certainly unique. Not the lemon zest I am used to from the local area. After a few minutes I got a expresso shot feel, thoughts moving quickly, but with little to no paranoia. After 20 minutes it slows down a bit, and you get a nice function uplifting and motivation buzz that lasts for a couple of hours. At about the 3 hour mark, I became very relaxed, if not slightly drowzy. It is a solid strain in the fact that it has a good sativa jolt, but ends with a slightly indica effect.

For me, I do not mind paranoia, but this plant switches out much of the paranoia for the euphoric, which is always nice.

Thank you both for the great info, looks like I am good to go with the OExNJ, I will clone that plant and will see if the clones have the same vigor that the mom, I recognized that some clones of F1's loosing their vigor after cloning.

Here's my latest Orient Express, some mistakes of mine during the early stages had me ending up with a short one-bud-plant, but a nice bud at 20gr dry, quite ok I think for a 3,6l pot!
Still some curing time needed, butnice spicy/flowery flavours with lemon overtopping it all, nice headrush, fizzy brain, baaaha! Great smoke as always!

Orient express

Hi,
This Orient express looks that it needs still a few days before harvest.
Can anyone tell me what pheno it might be? Pictures were taken on 10/30. It is a very big plant.

Hi all,

I’m excited to be running OE fem in the new year. I normally grow pure sativa so I go from rooted clones straight into 12/12. How long will I need to veg the OE fem clones in order to finish at about 60cm?

Also, how critical is dropping the temps to 20 degrees C for the last half of flower?

Cheers,
BC

Really enjoying this smoke after several weaks of curing. Very energetic. For medicinal purpose, while it doesn't have much pain relief, it makes you really positive and motivated, allowing you to accomplish a lot in the day (if so inclined.) One of the better Sativas I have had. I def. understand why 'Express' is an appropriate name. For those who are familiar with wrestling, another good name for it might be the 'Ric Flair.' Probably the Vietnam Black traits weighing in there, but with low anxiety. You def. feel a unique energy if you take a ride on it.

Excellent Hellgrammite00 :)

You really got the vibe of Orient Express' qualities and personality, you perfectly described her ;)
Orient Express is well known for her pungent organic earthy taste and aftertaste, and for her uplifting, pleasant, non racy non anxious positive effect.
Sorry to hear you lost part of your harvest due to botrytis, some OE phenos produce very fatty colas and the more indica chinese phenos can be more sensible against botrytis.
Hope you managed to harvest enough to satisfy your needs, glad you are already enjoying with her! Thanks a lot for sharing your growing experience with us!

Welcome Jujatovlch,

That's a indeed a nice Orient Express bush! :)
Yours is clearly a more sativa dominant Vietnam Black pheno with those thin sativa leaves and strong branching.
Sorry i could not chime in earlier to recommend you about the best moment to harvest her, but she needed approx 2 weeks more since your post.
Hope you had a bountiful harvest with a quality of your taste. Please, keep us updated with your results if you have the chance.

Hi Boss Cocky,

Glad to hear you plan to grow Orient Express soon :)
Regarding the stretching in early flowering, it depends mainly on the pheno, the Orient Express feminized version usually has more indica phenos which prefer to have 2 weeks of proper veg before switch to 12/12 to be able to reach that height. Anyway, if you share pics of your OE seedlings in growing stage i will be able to identify the phenos you have and the estimated stretch they will produce in early flowering.

We recommend to decrease the temps to 20ºC in the last third of flowering with this strain, she reacts producing much more resinous and tight buds than with hotter temps in late flowering.

Hope it helps!

Thanks, dubi. That helps a lot. After being very pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed the Tikal freebies, I was up for another of your low anxiety sativa dominant strains. I just finished reading this thread from top to bottom and I’m pumped to run the OE. I just have to wait until winter as there is no chance of having 20deg daytime temps until then.

I’ll be running the Malawi’s in the mean time. They sure don’t mind the heat. Had the 2 week old seedlings out in the full summer sun for a couple days of 35deg while I lightproofed my cabinet. They were happily taking everything the sun was throwing at them.

Hi Kijell,

Yep, Orient Express is not sweet at all :) But if you like organic, earthy, herbal and hashy terpens then you will love her. Nice sativa dom pheno you have in flowering
Best wishes!

Actually I am the most excited about this one!
The effects described is totally what I am looking for. I need a strain to socialize, for playing/making music and studying/concentration.
I am very interested in high pinene strains because of my asthma and I noticed in the past years that some strains are really nice to my lungs. With all the things I read about the pinene terpene, that it will expand the lungs and airflow + anti-inflammatory effects, I think that the strains with high pinene terpene content are good for people with asthma. I will test it :D

But for example the Panama x Malawi Strain had no beneficial effects for asthma, which is nothing against the strain. Some strains are helping me and some are not. Your Terpene Analysis is really helpful in that way so I can compare the strains!

Hi Kijell,

Glad to know the terpene reports in our strain descriptions on our website also help you to choose the more suitable strains for your taste and needs.

How did your Orient Express finish ? Did you like her effect, taste and vibes ?

Hello dubi!

The Orient Express did finish nicely but I think it could have been better, I did have some problems with her in comparison to the other ace strains. She was the lowest yielding from this run and therefore also terpene/bud production could have been better. I will run her again in some time and adjust my setting for her.

Smell is actually really nice, natural organic oldskool forest and garden smell.
Everybody comments on the smell that it is very different from all the modern strains we smoke here.

The High for me is more relaxing, warm and after a while sleepy actually, it does not hit that hard which I really like. Effects come more subtle and stay with you.

The Orient Express x Nepal Jam on the other hand was my highest yielding I had until now. It was double the yield of the Orient Express.
Weirdly the Nepal Jam Version is more uplifting for me and gives me more good feelings. I think I had a really good OE x NJ Pheno.

Thanks for the feedback Kijell,

Did you grow Orient Express regular or feminized version ?

The feminized version leans more towards the indica side so the effects are usually more relaxing and sedative, while the regular version is more sativa and produces with higher frequency females with a more gentle, clean, happy, low anxious yet not very narcotic effect.

Orient Express indeed has an organic/'forest after the rain' terpene profile that is quite unique on its own, easy to recognize if you are familiar with.

A pitty your Orient Express female was not so good yielding, but glad the Orient Express x Nepal Jam hybrid was the biggest yielding plant from this round :) ....
OE x NJ can produce a lot with the right pheno and when it is correctly grown.
