Is anybody growing organic soil anymore? If not, what is the trend?
Burn1

P.S. I'm an old head with no way to grow and no connections. It ain't like it used to be, I'm in my 60;s and don't know how to hook up anymore.
I'm not asking for anything except how is anyone growing in organic soil anymore.
Peace!

I’m still using subs supersoil recipe…a few mild modifications over there years. But pretty much subs recipe

I do want to give them a tea.

How about this:

Compost
Ewc
Seabird high P guano
Blackstrap molasses

All ingredients in some panty hose. Bubble for 24 hours in five gallon bucket. Use immeditaely

Does that sound right? It’ll be my first ibe

Can I dump the remains of the pantyhose as a top dress?

Hey :)
I do wanna use the first time this specific recipe:
70 % Coco
30 % Worm castings

and
50 % Coco
30 % Worm castings
20% Perlite

At the beginning, the first few weeks i dont wanna feed them, i just give them a little bit of a specific fertilzer that i put into the medium and then just water only.

Is there any tip u do have for me? And my question, do i really have to adjust the PH?
I see everyone in peat is doing that, i do have a ph of 7.8 and ive never adjusted the ph and i had never any problem relatate to my ph. but that is coco, so what do u think?

Ditto! in 3 gallon home made 4 dollar Sips, I do compost tea once a week! down to earth! top dress every other, been working fine! nuttin buy water after 6th week of flower!
Tell me more about your flowering teas? What all goes in to them? How lung do you bubble? Do you use a strainer for the amendments? Do you too dress with the used input after watering?

Your plants look awesome by the way!

My teas will vary depending what i have available, my last tea consisted of

(in a paint strainer bag,)
I put left over crap into a compost bin. some may top dress with it i do not.

1 cup ewc
5tble blackstrap molasses
1/3 c mushroom compost (optional)
1/4 c kelp
1/4 c bone meal
1/4 c bat guano high phosphorus
1/4 c seabird guano
1/4 c oyster shell
1/4 c langbenite

I only bubble 24 hours, and i will usualy cut mine 50% idk why i just do, with dechlorinated water, i did not use too, I do now. I try to add mine slowly as possible, hopeing not to get much in my reservoirs, (because I grow in 3 gallon siping pots) I ph before i add it, I did not use too. but i do now : ) some say you dont have too. I been useing down to earth products, I also take those ammendments, and use as a top dressing, when i dont feel like making teas, there are tons of recipes all over, , study and experiment, or just buy gai green and build a soil, mixes ready to go! oh get a good strong pump!

Yep, I'm an old head, too, and I only grow organic. In fact, I bought ingredients today to mix up another batch. I'm setting up 3 new 20G fabric pots for my flower room. No till, living soil - I've been doing it for years. Feed the soil.

No idea what the trend is. Probably lots of chems, same as commercial farming. I only grow for my wife and myself and we prefer natural.

I still grow in organic super soils when I grow outside. I don't stick to one recipe, I just get artsy with whatever is available. I do want to make a soil using pure ingredients from the rainforest I live in, I did one in the desert like that and it was a lot of fun.

Let's say I used a 1 gallon sized pot as my measuring device when making the following LC's mix:
5 parts peat moss
3 parts perlite
2 parts EWC

I then used that 1 gallon of measuring device to scoop out 8 gallons of this mix into a tub and then added 1 cup of dolomite lime to it and then mixed. This is equivalent to 2 tbsp of lime per gallon of soil. However, the "1 gallon pot" is not a true gallon. It's actually around 0.75 of a gallon. Is the amount of lime I used correct or is it too much?

0.75 x 8 = 6 gallons of soil with 16 tbsp of dolomite lime in it.
So, does that mean that I need to add 2 gallons of un-limed soil mix to get the correct ratio? I'm probably overthinking this as usual.

Wow! Post 5,933!
I made it.
It's been interesting to see the ebb and flow of ideas over time.
Tip of the hat to Burn1, Lavender Cowboy, Von, dank frank and everyone that contributed to this thread.

And yes to answer your question Burn1 some of us do still grow organic.
Thanks again

Using LC's Mix as the 'base soil' and Subcool's Super Soil, but I added kelp meal and alfalfa meal to it, in the bottom 1/3 of the pot...

Canopy.JPG

The three plants in the back row were heavily neglected mother plants that were rootbound in 1 gallon pots for way too long. That is why they are showing deficiencies but they are bouncing back since being transplanted into 5 gallons pots with fresh soil.

When growing with LC's mix #1 and Recipe #1, without using Subcool's Super (SS) soil in the bottom of the pot, I have to supplement with teas like molasses, EWC, Seaweed Extract, or bat guano but it's strain dependent. For OG Kush type plants I add some oyster shell powder to the soil just before the flip to 12/12. This is my first time trying the SS and I'm still learning what my plants like and don't like.

Shout out to the OG Organics thread.

I’ve grown many ways over the years but this style is my favorite.

Base Mix:
6 parts coco
2 parts EWC
2 parts perlite

Fertilizer:
Dr Earth All Purpose 1.5TBSP per gallon
Dr Earth Flower Girl 1.5TBSP per gallon

Here are some tried and true recipes for getting started in organic growing. Pick one of the first two soiless mix recipes for your grow medium. Then, choose a nutrient recipe that will work best for what you have available.

Enjoy...

Here are two very good organic soiless mixes...

LC's Mix is great for any stage of growth. You can germ seeds in it, grow mothers in it, root clones in it as well as veg and flower in it.

LC’s Soiless Mix #1:

5 parts Canadian Sphagnum Peat or Coir or Pro-Moss
3 parts perlite
2 parts worm castings or mushroom compost or home made compost
Powdered (NOT PELLETED) dolomite lime @ 2 tablespoons per gallon or 1 cup per cubic foot of the soiless mix.
...Wal-Mart now sells worm castings.

Chlorine tap water

Just a word of caution for you organic heads out there...
If you are tapped onto a municipal water supply that uses chlorine to kill bacteria in the water, it'll do the same thing to the bacteria (microherd) in your organic food source.
Always bubble your municipal water in an open container (5 gallon bucket) for 24 hours before adding ANYTHING organic to it.
I am interested in formulating the first recipe displayed here. I have a couple of questions:

1. I have some leftover nutrients I need to use up. Can I mix together the four ingredients and then top dress for nutrients as necessary? And further, can I substitute the dolomite for elemental/garden sulphur instead? My water source is high in alkalinity, which segways into my next question

2. My water source doesn't have chlorine, it has chloramines. If I choose to utilize this organic medium, I' need to treat the water with citric acid before applying, correct?

I would rather mix a tea instead of topdressing. Dolomite raises pH. Sulfur lowers pH. Get some clean water. Chloramines kill bacteria.

But would it work tho? I don't have all the materials to make a tea, I do have these ferts tho, need to be used up.

Last grow I did my pH was above 7. Water is very sweet.

What do you mean by "clean water?" Like RO?
